please point of correction, secretariat road was not constructed by peter obi.
Sis, it's obvious you hate Obi so much and I don't know why. You have never seen anything good done by Obi, I've been reading your comments about him since 2013. Obi may not have been perfect, but let's give him credits where he deserves some. Kindly enlighten us on who constructed the secretariat road and date, perhaps I'm wrong. Obi built the state secretariat complex. Was the secretariat road constructed and named before the secretariat even began to exist?

http://thenationonlineng.net/relief-in-anambra-as-federal-roads-come-alive/
The casualty statistics is grim. In the last 10 years no fewer than 136 people have died on the roads, said a driver. Others recalled that an uncountable number of vehicles have been damaged on the poor roads. Then consider the sheer agony of farmers and traders moving from one location to another.

Federal roads in Anambra State have been in such disrepair that those who travel on them simply gave up hope. Now, that hope has returned, thanks to the Federal Road maintenance Agency (FERMA). The agency’s intervention in the state is said to be massive, giving the people hope to live again.

Before now, road accidents on the deplorable federal roads in the state had reached an alarming state, with all the federal roads including the Onitsha-Enugu expressway impassable.

One of the drivers in the state, 46 year old Chukwubuike Okoye told The Nation that in the past 10 years, no fewer than 136 lives had been lost on those roads through accidents.

Some of these federal roads in Anambra state which had suffered neglect included Awka-Ekwlubia road, Oba- Nnewi road, Nnewi-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road and the Onitsha-Enugu expressway among others.

For the past 30 years, the Oba-Nnewi-Okigwe road had been neglected by the successive federal governments, while the Onitsha-Enugu expressway had become a past tense to the residents.

But last week, FERMA began rehabilitation of some of those roads to alleviate the sufferings of the road users for the ember months as Christmas is fast approaching. Already, the agency had moved its equipment to Ekwulobia, Nnewi and Onitsha to fix the roads, especially, those critical ones.

The director of Public Works of FERMA, Abuja headquarters who visited Anambra to kick-start the programme, Mr. Godson Chimezie Amos, an engineer, said all the sections that had dangerous potholes must be recovered.

He said he was in the state to ensure that deplorable roads were given adequate attention and rehabilitation to meet specified standard.

Amos lamented the high rate of accidents recorded during ember months nationwide, adding that the federal government under the president Muhammadu Buhari administration was out to get it right this time around, the reason according to him for the massive intervention by (FERMA).

He went round the roads with the South East zonal coordinator, Mr. Rufus Onimisi and the road maintenance engineer in Awka, George Francis Usoroh to assess the damage caused by erosion in some of the roads.

Another residents, Mrs. Onome Nwajiaku, told The Nation that what FERMA was doing was a way of wiping away the tears of the road users in the state. She commended the agency for what she called its new idea adding that the Buhari administration had begun on a good footing which the previous governments failed to do in their era.

The FERMA team advised motorists to be cautious while driving on Onitsha-Owerri Expressway because of the gully erosion on it.

I am not here to derail this thread but I am here to enlighten many of us of the possibilities the eastern part of the country can give to its people.

We have two access to the sea, though, its alittle far from the sea but God knows why he did that for us. He knows that we aren't lazy and we can do something about our situation when the need arises. I know my people are deep-thinkers and know that we're the light of Africa in many aspects. If you look well at the Nigerian Map, you'll see that we have direct access to the different parts of the country without difficulty. Please note that this is a blessing in all ramifications.

Please, I want you all to also understand, we don't have governors who have large pool of cash to spend and our states cannot get such loans from any part of the world without our help. I need you all not to look at this things as unnecessary but think deep and see the importance of this message. What our governors are doing will only develop our region alittle no matter how they try to develop it. The sincere truth is that we're the only ones that can develop this region from our collective efforts and forgetting the fact that we're from different states.

What am I saying? No matter how huge the money needed to create this seaport, we can bring it out from collective effort and see our region develop in an astronomic pace. We don't need the ones in akwa-ibom nor the one in calabar. We need the one in Abia and Imo states. Abia seaport being a priority of the two. If this seaport is finished, by the special grace of God. The region will witness a development that will be very difficult to handle.

Please look at the map very well, if goods enter the region through Abia, we stab the country in the stomach (at the middle). Abia is connected to calabar, akwa ibom, Rivers, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, etc. These states apart from Calabar are less than 30 minutes drive from Abia state. Foreign investors will see this has a ready-made market for them because they can spread their tentacles within a short time span within these states and make their monies fast. This will make our region lure thousands of investor for long term investments.

Abia state is better located than lagos. Lagos is at the edge of the country while Abia is at the middle where it can connect different states at thesame time. We should understand the importance of this analysis before throwing it into the trash can.

We should also think again, with the rising agricultural sector in the east, we're planning to start exporting our own agricultural products through our region. This will reduce loss of billions through accident and taxes in Lagos. Since its our port, we will get a lot of discount when exporting these products. What will be produced in the eastern region will be exported through our own port. This will make business easy and we will run our economy ourselves from our own home. It will be very easy to export to Gabon, south africa and other african countries close to us.

I am begging not because I'm a business man neither am I from the government, we should look into this seaport because its our eyes to the world. God never made the mistake of giving us that life-line because he knows we will need in future.

I want an eastern region where development will be evenly distributed and nothing will said about our goods been confiscated in wharf and our brothers running out of business. It is imperative I say this now before it becomes, "we should've done it" kind of situation.

keep this in mind, I am from Anambra state and Nanka to be precise. I am coming back to tell you what Anambra needs to do to destroy one state monopoly as been witnessed in this country.

Bro,
Don't mind Yoruba cartographers, making all sorts of useless maps. There is a reason why they concentrate on trying to prove that igbo territories at the border with other regions aren't really igbos. but they have failed, just as their fathers failed to divide igbos by putting some in south-south and north-central. Have you noticed that yorubas always want to claim Aniomas aren't igbo, and even saying Afikpo aren't Igbo, Obi-igbo in rivers state, even with it's name, they want it to be renamed "obi- hausa or obi-yoruba. The intent is simple. They know even if Igbo decides not to use Onitsha or Port harcourt port, igbo still has Obiaku and Afikpo. the fact the the Yoruba and hausa leadership of Nigeria intentionally refused to develop River ports in these towns that have direct access to the sea is part of their strategy to encircle igboland and create a siege mentality on our people. Some of our people who do not know Igboland buy into their misinformation about Igboland being landlocked. They have looked at the map and decided on areas they would call non-Igboland, in spite of speaking igbo language just to achieve their evil design.
Don't worry about their lies, our focus is that we shall not cede an inch of Igbo speaking territory to Nigeria regardless of the maps they have drawn since 1970 after the civil war. they too know very much that Igbo will not leave part of their kith and kin in nigeria merely because nigeria decided to call some parts of Igboland south-south or north-central. that is precisely why many faceless yorubas and abokis have carried on with multiple threads about how Anioma is yoruba land and not Igboland. But they would gladly kill and discriminate against Igbos from these places when it suits their evil design.
