Not a fan of Buhari but the interviewer was rude. I still don't understand the fascination of Nigerian leaders with giving foreign media interviews at the expense of local media.
PS-When will Nigeria elect an eloquent and smart president like the Fasholas, Ribadus, Okonjos et al. Listen to Kenya's leader Uhuru Kenyatta speak and you'll certainly want to hear the point he is trying to make.

But wait waht do you think he would have said ...they are brainwashed that anything west is good and they keep been embarrassed

Wetin concern me

Make I drink my rum jhooor

Make he no ban alcohol.. Thats my concern

Oh did he make sense ?

If you ask me who I go ask finally ?

not pleased with his response on sharia and stoning of women.. he did not deny saying he wanted full implementation of sharia in Nigeria but said he can't do that because of the constitution.

It's like expecting a Christian to say deny his faith, he provided a very logical answer to the question...Highlighting the freedom of religion as it is in the constitution...

What did you expect him to say, to say he doesn't support it? Please. For the fact that he said he can't implement Sharia because of the constitution, it shows that he even hold the constitution better than his Islamic laws.

Whatever prevents you from doing what you want to do simply means that thing is greater than you. IMO.

Every Muslims on the face of the earth is An advocate of sharia not just Buhari. You can not be a Muslim n be against Sharia n hajj. It's one of the tenet of Islam renouncing sharia is renouncing Islam. This is like any Christian renouncing the law of Moses before the coming of Jesus. You do understand you have indirectly or directly renounced God.

I'm happy with Buhari's responses. I Aldo, think the reporter was cutting him short by asking more questions while he was still answering some.

God Bless Nigeria. Amen.

I agree with you there.
The president seemed to be dodging questions, which must have gotten on the interviewer's nerves...sort of.

Regardless, that's basically what Upfront is all about;
Buhari should have been more than aware what he was signing up for when he agreed to be interviewed by Mehdi.

Apparently based on facts, Mehdi has a mindset that things are currently moving from bad to worse in Nigeria.
The president on the other hand was speaking on the contrary, as someone who is on ground.

He (Buhari) contradicted himself on the Amnesty International report. However, Mehdi gave him credit where due when he said that some staff of the army were sacked on his assumption of office.

The question he was asked on Sharia, and his response leaves much to be desired.
Now, I can confirm that Buhari really uttered those words.

Aside the mild altercation they had, I think it was a fair performance. I have to state though, in my opinion, that Buhari's capacity as leader in terms of Charisma and Mien is uninspiring, flatly uninspiring.

Madam I like your analysis but I differ a bit on some lines
1. Buhari was upfront and open with Mehidi.
2. Mehdi's position on Boko Haram's killings are twisted. He wanted a total head counts as a benchmark of performance, Buhari was explaining a perspective of lands coverage. For example, Boko Haram was controlling an equivalent of the size of Belgium, now Buhari said they've been restricted to Sambisa forest and night ops and that they are incapacitated from carrying out coordinated attacks as they used to do before
3. You cannot confirm Buhari uttered any stupid words when the person (a Yoruba Thisday journalist) that concocted the nonsense confessed before he died.
4. Every other thing are your personal opinions.......

In my opinion, there was nothing wrong in the President's replies. He was clearly assertive in his demeanor and only admonished the journalist to desist from interrupting him as they are wont to do. I will give the President a 75% rating.

...this is what I thought sensible people should infer from the interview. I think it serves Mehdi right, interrupting PMB and seeming trying to put words in his mouth, so that he could get answers that suits tabloids.....

I just finish watching and listening to d interview.
president Buhari did very well.
i will score him 71%.

He answered all d questions smartly.

On Bokoharam, he said he believe with d raining season they will be able to downgrade bokoharam greatly. Though he cannot assure dat suicide bombing will stop, but he is sure bokoharam cant take territories by d end of december.

on chibok girls he said he will negotiate as long as d girls are well and alive.

On sharia law, he said he cannot change nigeria constitution to make sharia law a national law.

On d issue of his dictorship in d 80s, he said he will apologize for any proven wrong doing. That he is president today because many nigerians approve of his leadership in d 80s.

So op, what were u looking for that u didnt see?

I think the question should be, beyond what you aptly stated, what else is beyond the OPs comprehension?

Uhuru Kenyatta eloquence and charismatic leadership is one of the reason Obama was very proud to go to Kenya for Americans to see a different Africa.

Buhari is never a leader whether in 1983 or 2015. All his ministerial nominees are ten times smarter, eloquent than him. He is just a figure head.

Honestly, I just wonder how some people's response get liked on this forum. As a Buhari supporter, there was already goose pimples all over me before I went through the video interview only to find all their rubbish claim to be false.

As a matter of fact, I thought PMB will 'fall my hand' when he was asked about the Sharia law, I mean the stoning of women and cutting of hand, and I think he answered that question perfectly well like any other person in a country like Nigeria will do.

Now, I know that some people on this platform are truly wailers, wailing for nothing.

You know, I thought I was going to see something horrible about the President, only for me to watch the video twice and ... In fact, I will score him 75%, that's an A I suppose.

Do you call a President timid simply because he called his interviewer to order? Do you cut-in while the President of a sovereign state like Nigeria is speaking? Do you allow your interviewer to overwhelm you, as a President and a former Army General? Is it not within your right to ask him to allow you make your point so that you're not quoted out of context and spending more and more energy trying to clarify what you said earlier? Is that what you call 'timid'? Aren't you glad you have a President who refuse to be intimidated by an ordinary journalist, unlike before? Do you expect PMB to lower his guard so that that small boy can push words into his mouth?
