It's unlikely to affect your application. Several people have gotten TRVs without the police character certificate. You may receive a notification to go for your medical test after your application has been reviewed. Some people however decide to do it before applying to make the process faster.

Hello Nairalanders, anyone going to Niagara College, I'm preparing to leave in a few weeks for winter session. I opted for landing pad which is home stay for 1 month and I plan to look for accommodation within that 1 month. I prefer to see what I want to rent. If anyone is going to Niagara and is interested in sharing accommodation please holla! Thanks
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by modup: 11:19am On Oct 26, 2015
No it shouldn't affect your application, I didn't do police report and I also know a few people who didn't either and we have our TRV. Don't fret, you're ok...

I believe you could still use it like that and include your diploma statement of result. I believe your transcript indicates your mode of entry (Direct Entry) so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hello,

I'm a unilag graduate though I didn't get in through UnilagDiploma. It's very possible to get a list of all your diploma courses even though you won't get it in the conventional transcript format(because it's a remedial program and you may need to explain this to your Canadian school). I've seen a friend, now in Canada, that was in your shoes. He got a list of Diploma courses and his graded were stated, signed and stamped. I strongly recommend you talk to the sub-dean of your faculty. (S)he will attend to you well. Unilag has a culture of treating Diploma students' requests specially. Godspeed!

Hello everyone. I need to know if anyone here has been able to get Visa for a PGD in the same field he has a fairly good bachelors and work experience in? I want to do a Thesis based masters but getting admitted is so tough that am beginning to think of doing a PGD to strengthen my qualification and position me better for the masters. So if i get a PGD admission, would the V.O let me go?

Is ur cgpa less than 2.1? If not u can apply for master by course. Some unis accept students to PhD with master by course. But if you insist on pgd, you will need to explain to VO why you are going for pgd instead of masters tru your SOP. Cheers.

Thanks alot God bless bro. Have not spend upto a year in US does that mean i will have to do medicals?

I am not sure, you will have to apply to see if medical exam will be requested. The requirement for medics is "if you have stayed in a designated country like Nigeria in the last 6 months i guess. However if requested, it is not a big deal, you will have to go to a uscis accredited doctor, I guess. It will cost you about $300 or more depending of the tests you doing.

Getting your diploma transcript shouldn't be a big deal. Go to the diploma office, it is located between the fuel station at new hall and FSS. Request for a fast track transcript, you may have to get a letter from a faculty member to influence that. When it is ready, inform them to send it to records office so that it can be sent with your regular transcript. You will have to tell records office to wait for your dip transcript. This process can be frustrating so get as many dip transcript you can get so they have extra copies saved in your file. Your best bet will be to have a Wes evaluation. WES will combine your dip and regular transcript and you won't have to worry about unilag again.

Please does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to receive a dispatched application package(via vfs prepaid courier service) if your residence is outside Lagos?

Hello Nairalanders. Happy new week and I pray for TRV and Medical hopefuls to testify this week.

Does anyone have an idea on SOWP processing in Nigeria? I presently study in Canada, my wife has applied for SOWP for the past 5 weeks without response from CIC.

Online Application: 21st September
Biometrics: 23rd September

Does anyone have an idea or advise on this? Your response/help will be greatly appreciated. God bless you all.

Hello house,

I've been a silent reader since part 8, and this thread has taught me a lot and kept me informed. It has been intriguing reading various people's victories & struggles to get a study permit.

I'm going to share my success story or at least add my information to this post so it's helpful to people who may need it.

Mode of application Online

Applied 11th August 2015

Biometrics 12th August 2015

Medical call 9th October 2015

Medical done 13th October 2015

Passports request 21st October 2015

Picked up passports 26th October 2015

School: Conestoga College (Mobile Solutions Development) PgD

Documents submitted:

Statements of accounts converted ($70,000CAD)

Receipt of school fees for a year ($13,980CAD)

No sponsors

All CIC forms

Work related documents (Letter of appointment, promotion, future employment letter)

Family documents (Siblings birth certificate)

Transcripts (Undergraduate and Masters degree and other certifications)

Police Character Certificate

SOP (Very solid SOP)

Also really good travel history (We've been to over 10 countries).

So my application was for myself and a sibling, (both students). This application was a bit different because we have lived in Nigeria for below 6 months and we were not sure we would need to do medicals but they requested it. For someone is in a similar situation, you will be asked to do medicals. Also, we both have a masters degree from the UK in Information Technology and our Undergraduate degree was in Human Resources (unrelated). We had to write a really solid SOP that talked about our background in management and our transition to  IT also, how a PGD will be significant in the growth of our career. We have zero study gap, so we didn't have to justify that.

In summary, I believe preparation was key to a successful application. Please read older posts, it helps. If it helps, we are 25 years old, single with no kids.

Special shout out to theSoj and every other contributor. You guys are awesome.
