I like to commend Rochas for a standard International Conference Center in Owerri. The challenge as usual is to use landscaping, with many many palm trees,a huge water fountain, lots of flowers to transform the entire venue to the point that it becomes a truly world class venue like the Abuja conference center. I sincerely hope they take landscaping very seriously to transform this area into a world class venue, instead of leaving it local like everything else. it will be a shame to spend all the money to build a beautiful edifice, while not completing the good work with equally world class landscaping. 2 Likes 1 Share

nothing. I can openly say we have no government in Imo. No civil servant has been paid in months and it has been reported that we now have the lowest IGR and highest debt in the SE region. Very sad and appalling situation. We led the region in nearly all indices 6 years ago. We can't report projects because there are none, and nobody is thinking about investing in the state. 1 Like |

Imo State to Partner with PZ CUSSON to Establish Palm Refinery in the State Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has pledged to partner with a Multi-National Company, PZ Cusson in setting up Palm Plantations across the three zones of the State as part of its efforts to diversify the economy of the state. Owelle Okorocha made this pledge when the Management of the PZ Cussons called on him at the government House Owerri yesterday. He stated that a taskforce on palm plantation has already been set up by his government to ensure that every community has at least a hectre of palm plantation. The governor regretted a situation where a country like Malaysia that got palm fruit from Imo State is now a leading country in the production of palm produce, whereas Nigeria is still relying on crude oil to exist. He stressed that time has come for the nation and state to look inwards and return back to agriculture, pointing out that his administration will be ready to partner with serious investors in the development of the agric sector especially in the area of palm plantation. Speaking further, he stated that the communities in Imo State has already planted palms and will be ready to provide 100 tons of palm fruit every month if the company is serious with business. Earlier, the leader of the group, Mr. Santosh Pillai expressed their readiness to partner with the state government to resuscitate its agro industrial sector, noting that Imo State was a major player in the export of palm oil produce in the late seventies. He spoke of their determination to revitalize the palm industry in the state and Nigeria at large and at such reduce import and increase export of palm produce. asha80: 1 Like |

Governor Okorocha Adopts Concession Option At last the Imo State Governor, Owelle Anayo Okorocha has considered to concession the managements of some Parastatals and Health facilities in the state with a view to make them more productive, so as to strengthen the state economy. The essence of the latest move by the governor which has been described as a bold and courageous step was designed to inject life into some of the parastatals and health facilities that would surely return them on the path of economic growth and development. The decision of the governor was communicated to the public through a press release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemedo. He made it clear that the essence is to achieve the aims of establishing them in the first place. He expressed deep concern that most of these parastatals and Health facilities have continued to enjoy the government’s huge monthly subventions without any meaningful financial contribution to compliment for such cash investments. The statement noted with dismay that most of the government Parastatals were expected to generate revenue by virtue of their status but unfortunately, they were unable to do so. The managements of some of the parastatals already listed for concession include; Imo Newspapers, Imo Orientation Agency, NEPAD, Imo ADP, Agric Loans Board, Water Corporation, PFMU and PSGRDP, Consumer Protection Council, Imo State Council for Arts and Culture,(ISCAC) Imo State Sports Council, Imo State Tourism Board, Imo State Zoological Garden, Imo State Library Board, Imo Job Centre and Imo State Investment Promotion Agency.(ISIPA) Others are the State Directorate for Employment, Okigwe Cattle Market, Imo Livestock, Ministry of Agric and Natural Resources Shop, Niger-Delta Bureau, Poverty Alleviation Bureau, IWADA, Bureau for Public Procurement and Price Intelligence, ENTRACO, Imo Marketing Company, Imo Blue Lake Oguta and Imo Essential Drug. The Health facilities the government have also listed to concession their managements include ; the General Hospitals and Health Centres in the Twenty-Seven Local Government Areas of the state, including the General Hospitals at Aboh Mbaise, Ngor Okpala, Ihitte Uboma, Okigwe, Aro-ndizogu, Mbieri, Awo Omama, Oguta, Ogwa, Ohaji Egbema and the Specialist Hospital, Umugwuma. In the case of the Health Centres and General Hospitals, the government decided to concession their respective managements to give them the needed impetus to make the Health-care delivery system in the state responsive, effective and service-oriented especially when the government’s experience in the affected Health outfits have been nauseating. In addition to the concession actions, the government has also dissolved the Youth Must Work Scheme with the aim of re-organization, effectiveness, and efficiency so as to achieve its initial targets and purpose. However, the Primary and Secondary teachers recruited under the Youth Must Work Scheme were not affected by the dissolution. The government has also dissolved the elected officials of the Community Government Councils (CGC) and the action is also designed to help in repositioning the CGC to also make it very vibrant and result-oriented. In the same vein, the state government has taken over Imo State Teaching Hospital staff Primary School at Orlu and FSP Primary School Ugwu-orji, Owerri to enable them enjoy the free and qualitative education programme of the state government. In a related development, the State Governor has suspended some Permanent Secretaries, Directors of Accounts and few other officials who were indicted by the report of the recent verification and audit exercise carried out by the state government. Meanwhile, the governor has directed the salary arrears of all the staff in the affected parastatals listed for concession, the hospitals and health centres also affected, and those of CGC to be paid immediately. All these actions have been taken in the overall interest of the state and its people. The government also appealed passionately to indigenes of the state for their cooperation and understanding. http://imostategovernment..com.ng/2015_09_01_archive.html |

Investors propose Ukrainian University in Imo State By Our Reporter on September 29, 2015 Education Review Top Ukrainian business delegates from the International Chamber of Commerce (I.C.C) Ukraine visited Owerri, Imo State recently to support the education sector. The team of experts, mostly executive council officials of More Educational Services Ltd – a subset of the Chamber with interest in educational bilateral support services, said the purpose of the visit was to initiate a working partnership with Governor Rochas Okorocha to fast track the development of the area. The foreign business delegates, led by Mr. Maksym Tsygankov, a top Ukrainian education expert and Sales/Marketing Director of More Educational Services Ltd and Mrs. Olena Protsenko, Executive Director, More Educational Services were received by the Deputy Governor of the state, Prince Eze Madumere. The delegates expressed the Chamber’s desire to partner with the government of Imo State in scholarship offers, human capacity trainings, waste-to-wealth projects, gas exploration projects, exportation of agricultural products and city development projects in the state. They also identified other areas of possible partnership to include aviation training in Ukraine for two students in each of the 27 local government areas of the state as well as the setting up of a Ukrainian University in the state to offer courses in specialized fields that are rare in Nigeria but prominent in the Ukraine. Director of the project, Mrs. Olena Protsenko, revealed that Imo State was carefully selected for this educational offer in the South East because her indigenes have the highest number of applications for foreign studies into different Ukrainian schools in the entire south east region. The Deputy Governor expressed the state government’s readiness to partner with them and promised to convey their letters of formal interest to Governor Okorocha. The facilitator of the visit, Mr. Innocent Winners, expressed joy with the outcome of the meeting. “Government alone cannot do everything, hence my informed decision to invite the foreign investors to partner with the state,” he said. Head of Media, Information and Strategy, More Educational Services Ltd, Mr. Segun Bailey Adeniji said plans were underway to provide aviation training for about 57 indigent students across the 27 local government areas of the state to study in Ukraine. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/investors-propose-ukrainian-university-in-imo/ |

RareDiamond: There's no news to post. Every morning I type Imo State into google and it's 100% politics. Okorocha says _______, Ararume visits _______, 0 talk of economics business or development and with the recent IGR postings showing that we have less IGR than Ebonyi state, i'm not surprised. When I type Enugu, Anambra or Abia into google there's usually 1 or two developmental stories there. So lets at least take pictures of Imo and call it that but we have been recycling news for a while 1 Like |

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Ofodirinwa: 10:01pm On Oct 27, 2015 |
Abagworo: I dont care about Anambra, I care about Imo and how it's been topped by Ebonyi. If i'm hating then fine, post news that isn't already in this thread. This is just a bunch of recycled articles and pictures. Nothing is happening in the state and there's currently and economic crisis due to non payment of salaries. It would also be of interest for you to research tax rates in Nigeria. Imo has the highest in the SE and Anambra the lowest, but with their being deliberately low (lowest in Nigeri), they're still collecting more than us. 1 Like |

Inspecting the project on behalf of the state, Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Sir Jude Ejiogu accompanied by youths of Avu community stated that the reason for the project was to alleviate the sufferings of the people, thereby decongesting the rate of human influx in the capital city. Sir Ejiogu, who frowned at the manner in which previous administrations grabbed and seized people’s lands without using it for any meaningful business, arguing that any land taken from people by any government should be developed or returned to the owners for the sake of peace and fair play. The SGI therefore gave kudos to Governor Rochas Okorocha for achieving what his predecessors could not realized in twelve years, even after using every government’s machinery to take people’s properties, describing their behaviour as not only for self aggrandizement but as economic waste. He appealed to the good people of the host community to assist government in its effort to realize her programmes geared towards uplifting the living standard of the people, while commending members of his committee for their collective ideas that have helped in no small measure with a view to achieving the mandate. According to Sir Ejiogu, the project when completed would boost the economic well being of the state and as well, generates employment opportunity for the teeming youths within and outside the area. |
