I think you are being unfair to Rooney here, his versatility more than anything was the reason for being moved around earlier in his career.

The solution to the Rooney problem is to play him on the left, why LVG hasnt thought of that still bewilders me.

As a winger he will have a bit more time on the ball, and his ponderous first-touch wouldnt be so badly fet since he wont get crowded out like in the middle.

He does seem to get stuck-in, so tracking back shouldnt be a problem, and he can deliver decent crosses, which is also a plus.

You may say he cant beat a man, but he really can just dress the ball to his right and put something in ala Young.

Rooney never had a first touch, that didnt appear overnight, so no surprises there - what is more suprising is that he cant even hold unto the ball to bring others in.

I still dont want to believe he's finished, maybe is psychological, but he can get any worse than this surely.
