Okay i need your help. Was born by catholic parents and by default, amma catholic too, but what i dont understand is my birth church adopts two authorities. Its own and the bible. And to be sincere, its hard ta admit it, the bible is seen as a sub-authority...

Well not like i even read the bible ummm but i have this feeling something is nat in place.

Can someone figure this out.

There are lots of doctrine in catholic church which are man made, the bible itself have proved lots of those doctrine wrong but the catholism, because they want to dominate, to protect that which they've built, they want their members to continually beleive in their lies.

It takes only those that study their bible to know thhe truth.

If u dont get down to study the bible how would u know what is and what is not the truth? The advice i usually give myself is that on judgment day we are not going to stand as a group but rather as individual. Catholic or any church doctrine is not the standarɗ or the authority but the bible/word of God is

Many things are wrong with the catholic church. I'm sorry to say. One of which is idolatry. I'm sure you've heard this countless times. But it is written that thou shall not bow down to any craven image, in the name of anything in heaven or on earth. that was pretty clear and straightforward, but the catholic church does otherwise. Why honor Mary and ask her to pray for sinners? did Mary die for our sins? why pay homage to her? this is all levels of wrong. We have only one mediator, and that's Christ Jesus.

One thing I don't like is arguement......ok for example, infant baptism do the bible justify as catholism do?....there are many many more but I wouldn't want to be contencious ok.

The bible has NEVER been the sole authority in d christian church. Just the way the constitution is not d sole source of authority in nigeria, d courts must interprete what it says.

During the time of the apostles, the apostle themselves and the elders were d teaching authority in d church along with d old testament. It was d apostles and elders who interpreted and taught what was written by d prophets.
After the apostles died their teaching came down as letters (which d church lata gathered and calld d bible), and the witness of their disciples who learnt from them and transmit the faith (dis is calld apostolic tradition), d elders were still d teaching authority.
So there has been 3 distinct source of authority in d church, d bible, apostolic tradition and the churchs' teaching authority.

u should go get ur bible and read it after saying a short prayer to d holy spirit.

The bible never claims to b d sole source of authority or d sole index of christian practice. The catholic church predate d bible in its present form. The leader of the church is also a teaching authority for d church read acts 15.

And lastly i think u should go back to catechism class and learn what d catholic church teaches.

The Catholic church was not made for the bible, rather the bible was made by the Catholic church for the Catholic church.


Catholic church worshipped Jesus hundreds of years before they compiled the new testament of the bible where the words of Christ were authenticated.
So I am still amazed how some people out there would abandon the church because the church have produced an infallible book called bible, instead of proclaiming the church infallible.

The word of God is spirit, so it is only with spirit you will decode what God is saying. Christ sent the holy spirit to the Catholic church, which has led her to all thruth(john 16:13). The bible the Catholic church gave you is a piece of truth, the whole embodiment of truth is in the Catholic church.

Interpretation of the bible is not your job, the bible was written in Greek and Latin, so anything you try to do with translated versions especially English versions is bound to be wrong.

I pity some people who stay inside their room to produce interpretation of the bible, when they know the holy spirit cannot give two different interpretation of the same passage or contradict what it gave to the Catholic church 2000 years ago. Invention of churches is against the will of Holy spirit (John 17: 23), and it is a top scandal for the most holy cause.

@op do not listen to mushroom interpreters on this forum, they have no doctrine, but invent improvise doctrines to suit nomadic transitions. The word of God is static and Catholic doctrines are static, none has contradicted the other in its 2000 years in existence. So don't shake at all.

try and read the History of Catholic church you will understand better. They came from Roman paganism. Read and discover it yourself

The Bible is a guide to salvation for man. You dont need to inform your Priest before reading the Bible.


And please desist from praising your Priest. He is imperfect like you and i. Your Priest too can tell lies

the bible is a standard for me, but it is also a standard for 30,000 protestand sects and yet they cant agree on doctrine. That tell u something more is needed. JESUS didnt come to earth to write a bible he came to build his church, are u in that Church or are u labouring in d vineyard of men?
