God bless you bidexmimi. There you see some peeps crying foul of the government's delay in paying them 5k..when some of them spend more than 5k on Internet subscription monthly. Like I said in an earlier post today, a more pressing issue for our lawmakers and indeed the government to bother about is creation of jobs...not 5k monthly stipend. I bet some people would choose to remain unemployed because of the stipend. As for the promise, however, I have faith in this administration that sooner or later, it would be implemented.

This is where common sense comes into play. I am going to make my own promise; I promise to give every Nairalander one million naira at the end of this month just for posting. Oya come and hold me to it. Common sense should tell you to ask questions like, how am i going to to fund it? How am i going to sustain it? who am i? These are the kind of questions that should have been asked before elections. I am confounded as to why people are crying now. It is not always advisable to let hunger overtake common sense.

Trouble with Nigerian youths ....they value themselves less than they are worth. Tweeting for 5K when even Linda gives 4 times that to her praise singers every Monday.

Let them come out and contest elections, they would sit all day behind their Social Media profile fighting and winning elections for the corrupt political class appropriating all the millions the youths are entitled to and yet here they are fighting for 5K SMH

This does not hold even a teaspoon of water. In their campaign, Osibanjo clearly elucidated how this was going to work. If it was PDP now you would have been foaming in the mouth. May God deny you the promises he made to you, the way APC are denying the promises they made to Nigerians. AMEN

My dear ur vewi ryt, d country is in a terrible economic situation caused by bad governance, looting of previous administrations, falling oil prices and we r here calling on a new govt who has a lot of restructuring to do to fulfil their promise. Its their promise quite alright, but let's b patient abt it, PDP senators agitating for the 5k implementation, how many of their promises did dey fulfil??....... D agitation is purely political, not as if they care for the masses...........

I was thinking Nigerians were under a spell singing praises of a failing government, not knowing that they were only building momentum. I swear, many APC zombies are actually demanding for their own 5k too.. cheesy cheesy grin grin

OP! 5K can go a long way to help the needy, so you don't wanna wish away those promises just like that. Let's look at it from another perspective, the APC promised 3 million jobs but up till now, I can boldly say that over 20,000 people have lost their jobs since May 29, so how do you expect Nigerians to hope on a directionless government that may not even successfully create up to 40,000 jobs throughout it's four years rule?

Same difference. In a country where there is no database, no tax system, no police, where salaries are not being paid, you are expecting 5k to be paid to who exactly? Lol.....nigerian's, du.mb since 1960.

OP, you're one of the few reasonable Nigerians out there. It amazes when I see educated people and most especially graduates yearning for 5k when they should actually be demanding for job creation. It's quite disheartening.
It is not. It was promised for 25 million poorest Nigerians, possibly 75% would even be in the North. Promise is promise. Not that he has provided an alternative now, like shopping voucher. Many that would benefit would be the old and frail, unable to work.

*How many companies pay 200k sef?

*Anything wrong in Nigeria having a social security scheme?
*That still wouldn't stop the government from creating jobs and creating enabling environment for new businesses

* I don't want to believe that the people who made the promises were daft, because this kind of defense tells tells us so.

*Questions about this promise was asked when it was being made. We had a strong debate on it on this forum. It made front page several times. The proponents told us it was workable. They even told us that they'll block leakages to ensure it's done

*Threads like this leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

*it was a promise for pet sake. A well articulated and documented one.

Abeg is this how we will be defending failure of promises?

Some people will still steal from the 5k if implemented. The economic climate will not forgive the government if such money is wasted on consumption instead of development
