Shymm3x: The thing is none of these past governors really fit into any of the positions Most of the appointments were based on their general performance as governors I think foreign affairs would have made sense too due to his CV but then again the sector is not as crucial as the solid minerals sector Looking at the appointments, very few of the guys look bright and I feel he was trying to place the bright guys in the crucial sectors You no wan give Lai mohammed minister for solid minerals na 4 Likes |

Shymm3x:That appointment is one minus that cannot be overlooked. But I think that the man is seriously looking at diversification and he needs a trusted hand in that sector. Well that sector might just be another power sector now. Attention will be shifted to solid minerals and agriculture according to the president. Dr Fayemi is a brilliant mind no doubt and I hope it won't turn out to be another albatross. 1 Like |

IyaIode: Looool that Minister for Information befits him.The position is not soo important so he can mess around as much as he likes Placing him in solid minerals sector is like fielding Enyimba youth team against Barca I have my concerns regarding Audu Ogbeh.Owning a farm doesn't mean you'll perform well as minister for Agriculture na. 1 Like |

modath: With Fashola in the saddle as Minister of Power, all the SW governors should start paying serious attention to generating power in each of their states. If Seye Makinde the former gubernatorial aspirant of Oyo State had won his bid, his blueprint on power would have been implemented, because he is a top-notch mechanical engineer with a background in power generation. He wanted to use the Turkish example - set up dual-fueled micro-turbines in every local govt area, that can run on natural gas and LPG. Ensure community devpt and residents associations are on the board of the local govt arm of the DISCOs, who would be entrusted with monitoring, debt collection and supervision of such turbines. Ensure those associations also monitor distribution and transmission facilities and report back to relevant DISCOs on their status. Where there is a need for a new transformer, and the community is unprepared to wait for any length of time for the DISCO to replace it, the community can tax its residents, buy the transformer, install it and ensure it is connected to the national grid. They would then be entitled to a rebate in their electricity bills over one year. 80% of Akwa Ibom is now covered by electricity and they have the most stable electricity supply in Nigeria, courtesy of the Ibom Power Plant which has been opened and is fed with gas from Seven Energy Gas Processing Plant. General Electric (GE) and afew multinationals have relocated to Akwa Ibom because of the stable power in that area. SW should team up with investors in this regard. Ondo State has oil wells and gas fields, so does Badagry in Lagos as well as parts of Ogun State. This task is achievable! There are too many private owned power-generation companies on paper that are yet to take off in Lagos and Ogun. Let the SW governors partner with them, or build their plants from scratch. There are World Bank grants for power-related projects and AfDB grants as well that can be deployed for this purpose. cc: GentleToks 4 Likes |

Aareonakakanfo:My only problem with Ogbeh is his age, we might benefit from having a farmer as minister of agric, these guys know where it pinches, Adesina was fantastic with rice ( though all these import waiver wahala makes the whole thing look like a scam) many farmers will tell you they only read policies on the pages of newspaper |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Nobody: 7:32pm On Nov 11, 2015 |
Laudate nice post bbut.. Akwa Ibom doesn't have the most stable electricity supply in Nigeria according to what I've heard from the horse's mouth, that should be Osogbo.9jacrip se ooto le leyi Speaking of power generation,I don't think Ondo state posses gas deposits. What we have is crude oil |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by zimoni(f): 7:34pm On Nov 11, 2015 |
In my own opinion, states do not have the fund to generate sufficient electricity for the populace. What I think FG should do is to scrap the old privatization and issue licenses to IPP firms for various states. Each IPP company should focus on a state for electricity generation, transmission and distribution. Firms may merge to cater for a state. FG must ensure the power firms produce stable electricity, pre-paid meter and utility cards. Fashola would only supervise the whole process, tell me how he won't succeed if he has the support of Presidency. Cabals will have no option than to invest into power sector and make more legit money. The most important thing is political will. If we are willing, we can make it happen. It's not a further maths for crying out loud. |

Aareonakakanfo: Crude oil always comes with associated gas. You can't separate them inside any oil well. Some companies do not just drill for oil, they also put in a fractionating plant next door to the well, to tap the gass, strip it, dry it and then process it into the various components such as methane, propane, butane, pentane etc. |

IyaIode: I hope people don't crucify me but I don't see Adesina as a game changer coss Agric Reform is supposed to translate into cheaper Foodstuff but I don't see any reversal in that instance. Sharing phones to farmers !!! Maybe it could have been higher if he wasn't taking care of that ministry but I didn't appreciate buying a basket of tomato @ 18k .. & that waiver is completely true.. |

Aareonakakanfo: I have a friend that works with Mobil in Eket. He said the Light is not stable at all. I believe Osogbo and Afam in Rivers state have the best electricity supply in Nigeria. Osogbo is stable because of the National Control Centre located there, while Afam is a power generating village. Maybe Shiroro too. 2 Likes |

Aareonakakanfo: Egbon, it is being done even as we speak. I have friends who were just transferred to Akwa Ibom because their companies relocated there, and in Uyo, Ikot Abasi and environs they enjoy like 21 hours of power daily! Gas from crude oil wells is known as associated gas (AG), while gas that occurs naturally in gas fields is known as Non-associated gas (NAG). Both types of gas consists of natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). But the percentage of natural gas or methane is higher in NAG, than AG. While AG is richer in liquified petroleum gas (LPG) than natural gas. You can install a gas processing plant that would separate the associated gas or non-associated gas into different types of gases ranging from methane (i.e. natural gas) all the way down to pentane and hexanes. Hope this answers the question. |

modath:With the probe into rice waivers, it's almost as if the so called increase in metric tons were actually increase in importation. Those that were given license were busy importing more than their quota while claiming increased local production. Adesina was fantastic with policies but implementation was very poor. He was the one eyed man in Jonathan's blind administration 1 Like |

razid: Fayemi is definitely a brilliant mind and his CV might be the best of lot. However, I just think based on his achievements when he was in the UK and other places - he has everything to take Nigeria's foreign policy to the next level. If we're being honest with ourselves, he failed in Ekiti, hence that "stomach infrastructure" thug was able to wrestle power from APC. I guess that's why I have my doubts about him. But regardless, I'm not really bothered cos folks don't really pay attention to that sector due how dependent Nigeria is on oil. As for Fashola, it is just natural to be scared once you take emotions out of it - and focus on his career progression/projection to the next level. The power sector isn't Lagos. With that portfolio, he'll have to fight a lot of battles and the average Nigerian will have to feel the impact in real time. That's how they'll grade him. It is basically like throwing yourself open into the court of public opinions, where folks who don't understand anything are the judges and the judgement would be based on the impact you have on their lives. And anything they perceive as failure can be a career killer. I just hope he prevails - he's a warrior for taking something as daunting as that. Also, I like him as the works and housing minister. That's perfect. Someone just needs to rein the incumbent fat boy in Lagos in, to stop antagonising his superior. Lagos needs Fashola's ministry for a lot of concessions from the FG and they both need to work together. Hopefully, he'll extend a few things to the SW and help in the integration of the region. Nigeria also need new cities and if he can help build a few, that will be nice. Kemi Adeosun is the star of the list. I like her appointment a lot. But folks will have to be extremely patient with her cos Iweala messed up the country's economy with her voodoo economics and magical numbers -hence the economy is in comatose. She has her work cut out by I believe she has what it takes to excel. It is a tedious job but she should make us proud. I don't know the rest apart from Lai Mohammed. The man is a parrot and he got the right portfolio. 4 Likes 1 Share |
