One prays they get their Biafra so that naked reality can hit them in their faces that Nigeria had really been a great help to them.Biafra would also give way to the disintegration of the forced marriage...this is my prayer...

Even if Nigeria ever gets serious and put the right structures in place, their style of business will never be able to thrive..

The real merchants are the ones who do legit business and maximise their profits the right way.

However, when you start scamming folks - that's not business.

Fashola handling 3 sectors is a bad move

Power on its own is like mount Kilimanjaro.

Even his predecessors who handled just power alone were unable to achieve anything

Combining that with works and housing is hectic
It's called grooming, Fashola is more or less like the second president.

On a serious note, i think all the power sector needs now is the right policies, same for housing. These 2 sectors should be private sector driven.

He already had a template to work with. He has handled all those sectors as a governor. He just need to replicate it at the federal. I would have preferred him being given power or works alone but who knows, that might be a pointer to his presidency some day.

At least they have no excuse on Osodi/Apapa Expressway and there won't be any Obanikoro to throw spanner in his wheel any longer in Lagos. If he would listen to me, his first priority in South West should be Lagos/Ibadan, Oshodi/Apapa expressway. Another thing is that all the governors in South West can now fix federal roads in their domains as they now have an ally as Minister of Works.

What about power?

The benchmark would be 24hrs power supply, no?

How will he be able to achieve that with the corruption and forces in that sector?

Power is an entirely different ball game here.No past minister has ever been successful in that position.

EPL is different from Champions league grin grin cheesy

I still think its a bad move

Aunty mi, e imagine Fashola and Fayemi leading Westen Region?

It appears as grooming indeed but I think if he becomes president of Naija, the political terrain may thwart his actual worth/performance.

I'm in, as long as it is pro-Yoruba.

As you said, I would love for everyone on the train to be as straight as possible. I'm generally usually straight with someone even though my first few meetings with someone is usually based on observation but I'm mostly straight.

If the idea is going to get far, honesty and openness is germaine.

We may also need to consider a peace and conflict resolution arm considering exchange of ideas may get things heated up in the long run and we all handle things differently.

Eguerrilla talked to me about something like this at a point but it never materialized.

I hope this works.

That's me as well. I'm as real as it gets and my simple cos I don't even take life seriously. However, I'm not a fan of fake and intrusive folks, hence you'll rarely see me converse with folks out this medium. Only one person on here knows what I look like and how I talk, and the person knows I'm real.

We'll just see how it goes.But no snakes/fakes - I don't like fake folks.

He can replicate the template he was using in Lagos particularly those powering some sensitive government businesses in Lag. albeit on a muchmore larger scale now. I think he has also been an advocate of each state having control of power and energy resources. Maybe we will have to see a situation whereby any willing state can put up affordable megawatts independently without waiting for FG approval. I believe the only challenging sector is that of power and if going by what the VP said, they have some workable programmes in place.

They should have given him the works and housing ministry alone.

And let someone who's not a career politician - preferably a technocrat - to handle that sector.

I'm scared for him, to be honest.

That sector might end his career - I just hope he overcomes whatever they throw at him.

They haven't been successful cos they've been their party's conduit for siphoning state funds...

Check this out, "All the Ex-power ministers went on to govern their states"....

Lagos is micro Nigeria & he tried, it may not be as good as it should have been but being in opposition with the over population choke hold didn't do him any favours..

I would like to think nominees for the positions would have gotten information on the ministry they'd likely be heading and given consent to it.

I suppose Fash believes he can cope.

As mad as Lagos was, dude broke Lagos ans Lagosians into bits.

We'll see how it goes.

What about vested interests, especially those involved into importing generators?

And how'll they be able to push a bill to allow states control power and energy resources through the legislative arm of government?

What about states that don't have the resources?

You are correct. Remember our own Baba Ige took a shot at that ministry and he got overwhelmed. But our elders say "ibi lile ni a ti n ba okunrin ogun". He knows the challenge before him, let's just wish him success.

Exactly! Some are using his Lagos performance to judge him

Performing at state level is one thing, performing at federal level is another thing

For a very paramount issue like power, you don't combine it with something else.

It makes no sense

Lol.

Performing at state level where there's a common goal, is different from an arena where goals are divergent and you have powerful vested interests. And he was given two ministries at a time - not one.

Even Houdini would reject it, since he's being groomed for something bigger and his CV is already where it's meant to be with what he achieved in Lagos.

Just take one small portfolio, take it to the next level with a lot of publicity - and he's good to become the next president. Why go take something as grave as that? What is he trying to prove again?

According to an expert I listened to sometimes, one Dr from UNILAG, he said the state could generate their own power up to about 1 or 2megawatt. That it's only when it's above that it would be linked to the national grid. So IMHO, I think they begin to have a cluster of small power generation in strategic places rather than going for a bigger one that would consume their resources and wouldn't be completed during their terms in office. For instance, Ogun State government should think of having an IPP in Agbara axis and another one probably in Sagamu.

On the vested interests, they are mostly the people we have been talking about. They have lost their grips on the FG, so I don't see them as threats except they want to dare Mr President.

But the Atiku man is allegedly the co-owner of Mikano generators, according to Omojuwa. And apparently, a lot of ex military officers are also involved.

Then you have got foreign countries that make a lot of money from it as well. Nigeria's power sector is deeper than rap.

I hear that.

But let's see how it plays out.

However, in life, once you attain a level of achievement and you know you're being groomed for something bigger - it's always better to play safe, till you get to the next stage.

It's just basically like a high school star going to college for the mandatory one year. Avoiding injuries should always be the most important thing cos you don't want a career ending injury.

That's another issue there, the generator importers and the oil guys

These guys are part of the problems Nigeria is facing with regards to power

Another reason why Jona would have been suicidal. Most of the oil guys were his parleys and even if Obafemi Awolowo had been the Minister for power during Jona's tenure,he would have failed

What do you think about Fayemi as the solid minerals minister?

That man has a stellar CV in conflicts resolution, military, and international relations/politics.

Shouldn't he be the minister for foreign affairs, rather than what they gave him?

Nigeria needs a better foreign policy cos all the clowns they keep putting there are some of the dumbest folks ever.
