The project, which is being handled by Meadville Building and Construction Company, is expected to be completed within the next three months. Speaking during the inauguration of the programme, the State Controller of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Mrs. Mojisola Gbadebo, advised interested members of the public to key into the National Housing Fund Scheme. Gbadebo said this would enable them to benefit in the acquisition of the buildings as soon as they are completed. She further explained that the project was being sponsored by the bank in collaboration with the Federal Housing Authority Homes under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Lands and Housing. According to her, a prospective buyer who must be a contributor to the housing fund stands the chance of accessing the loan from the bank with six per cent interest rate with 30 years repayment period. She noted that the amount to charge the contributor depends on his or her income and age, adding that loan is not exclusively for salary earners but all income earners from the age of 18 years.

The first type is the compressed laterite brick, which is manufactured by pressure on a type of red soil found in abundance across 80 percent of Nigeria. Laterite bricks may be produced on a small scale, or even on-site, and require very little energy input in a nation where shortage of industrial energy is a major concern. The second type of brick is the baked clay brick, which is kiln-fired and requires greater investment and energy input.

To the homeowner, however, the cost difference between brick and block is substantial. It costs between 30 percent and 47 percent LESS to build with compressed laterite bricks than with blocks, according to a 2012 study from scholars at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State. Building with baked clay bricks costs 19 percent less, per square meter, than building with concrete blocks. This study included not only the cost of the materials, but also mortar and labour, in the calculation. Considering that structural elements constitute about 50 percent of the material cost of a new home, using bricks instead of blocks to construct the walls results in significant overall cost savings to the home buyer.

Furthermore, bricks in Nigeria are made from indigenous materials which support the local economy all the way up the supply chain; concrete blocks use cement as the major cost input, a material that is customarily expensive in Nigeria by world standards and of which a large proportion is imported, mainly from China.

Despite all of these advantages – delivering technical durability, superior appearance, and better cost – brick is used in only about 10 percent of housing construction in Nigeria. Bricks provide serious room for market expansion, and the dearth of brick homes is a dilemma. Now let's analyse the most important portfolios under Buhari's government.

- President: Northerner (Buhari)
- Senate President: Northerner.
- Speaker of the House: Northerner.
- Judiciary: Northerner.
- Chief of Army Staff: Northerner (this is the most important portfolio in the Nigerian armed forces cos of the structure and whoever heads the army controls the armed forces cos the Nigerian army is the only section within the Nigerian military that's potent. The Chief of Defence is just a mere appendage).
- Head of Customs: Northerner.
- Head of the Ports: Northerner.
- Petroleum Minister: Buhari should head this one - another Northerner.

The remaining important portfolios for decision making which are yet to be given out are:

- Finance
- Aviation
- Attorney General.

I think Northerners would take at least two out of the three. Mostly likely: Attorney General and Aviation.

So what's the implication of this hegemony on the Yorubas and how can we win the fight for regional-government/true-federalism when Northerners control all the important portfolio required to implement it?
