Lat season i stated that i wanted us to sell Rooney,RVP and Carrick as those were the big stumbling blocks to our moving to the next level. RVP is gone and i am quite certain this is the last season for Rooney and Carrick as starters.

Come next season i expect Martial, Depay,Wilson,Adnan and possibly 2 big buys in Jan and in the summer to take over. Rooney's days are numbered possibly starting from this January sef. Mane and/or Anderson are coming this January, Muller or Lewandowski in the summer. cheesy
As for Carrick he is now really nothing more than a squad player so that is good.

SailorXY:

These your tales sef.
Do you know that the whole team is being held back by Wayne Rooney? Let's not look into the last two years, player sales & surrounding circumstances, I'm looking @ this season.
As it stands, nothing suggests Chicharito would've fared worse than Rooney. Even if Chicharito is a poacher (let's assume cuz we all know his ball skills improved massively) & the team carries him, the opposition knows there's a genuine goal-threat in there somewhere & will be wary. What we get with Rooney is the team carrying him YET he offers nothing to trouble the opposition even when through on goal. As a "ball-playing striker" (refer to coogar's .gif) all he does is miscontrol the ball, run like a donkey, pride himself on 'work rate' & bull - who cares about that from a CF? Seeing Rooney score these days is an exception rather than a norm, & when you factor in the playing time he seizes from better options - it becomes a monumental disgrace!

Chicharito had a very poor showing in his final game before his sale there's no doubt about it, but what if he's already been told he stood no chance no matter how Rooney fares? We all heard LvG say something like that quite raw in public, how much less in private meetings?

Let's not deceive ourselves, Martial was brought in cuz it was glaring we would be closer to Chelshit right now than to top 4 if Rooney continued leading the line. Every single player has been benched or shunted about just to accommodate Rooney, where's the substantial result? Defensive stability will crack if the strikers are not turning defenders' efforts to points!

Two paltry goals (he even had to be pushed in for one) & you think Rooney is worth discussing? Grab a random Man United fan by the balls even from Rooney's county & demand a list of performers this season (MUFC players) - White Pele won't feature in anyone's top 15 except his regular ball lickers undecided

All these are stories. You don't know any better than Van Gaal and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Moreover, Van Persie and Falcao were given much longer time to either pass or fail last season.

Before the season kicked off, the whole media was after Rooney, their aggression on Gaal's refusal to buy a new striker was transferred to Rooney.

sir bobby charlton's record must mean something to the decision makers at the club. it's weird that a striker that has a miserably 2 PL goals in almost 1,000 mins is undroppable...

it then begs the question - why is a striker playing horribly starting for man utd? 2 goals in 980+ minutes as a striker? cheesy grin my great great grandmother would offer a better strike rate.

he's not going to improve...dead that thought!
when rooney is on fire, he's on fire. rooney cannot start a season with 2 goals in his first 11 league games........and then go on to score another 23 goals in the remaining 26 league games.
The general thought on rooney is that his goals comes in patches its not wrong to think he'll start hitting braces in the next five games,

Rooney is a spent force and his form has been poor for a long time now, i believe this is the new Rooney.
His previous bad patches were usually due to injuries, bad luck in front of goal and loss of form. This time is different, for the first time Rooney has appeared slower, less agile, and less energetic despite having no injury problems.........This man has played top flight football for about 13yrs.......it has taken a great toll on him and his body is giving up on him

Diego Costa, an out and out striker, one of Europe most prolific strikers has 9 league goals in 2015.

10 goals in all club competitions. Sky has not fallen.

That is why his club is in relegation trouble. Further more he is not captain and highest earner at his club. Also in acknowledgement of his struggles he has been dropped by both club and country at certain times this year.

So rooney's problem is now lack of fitness n confidence? I thought they said that LVG 's system is the bane of his success as a striker. Very soon we will hear that the team's cook is also responsible for his poor displays. Please you can continue with the rooney fanboyism in privacy n not here.

If anyone still sees Moyes's adventure at OT as a better success story than LVG's then I have absolutely nothing to say to those ninjas. To begin with, he wasn't even first or second choice, he was third. After SAF failed to convince both Guardiola n Moaninho to come to OT, he handed over to the trophy less one and we took a dive into the artic.

Costa has not earned the respect to be given time to resurrect.

Moreover, he can only play one position. He is a specialist who must perform in his one role. Rooney needs to be re - specialized on a position after many years of sacrificing for the club. It looks like behind the striker is actually his best position. Where he has played in the last two games. And where he played mostly for SAF.

if we had diego costa, with his struggles, instead of rooney we would be on top of the league. costa was plagued with injuries in 2015 and he has missed several games.

to put things in perspective for the year 2015,

costa - 9 goals in 1610 PL minutes
wazza - 6 goals in 2450 PL minutes.

so wazza has played 840 league minutes more than costa and he still has 3 goals fewer than costa.

costa scored a league goal every 179 mins
wazza scored a league goal every 408 mins

is rooney a liability or not? cheesy grin

Rooney has 14 goals in all competitions.

Costa has 10.

Costa played only as 9. Rooney played DM, CM, AM, FW.

Costa played in a better team for a longer period.

We do not have the time to resurrect careers now. If he is not up to the task he should become a squad player like Scholes,Neville,Giggs e.t.c in their later years.
I agree with you he can fight for the no 10 position with Mata,Herrera and Perreira but he should make the team only on merit not on what he did 10yrs ago. We can not allow what someone did in our past jeopardize our present and our future.

The only thing you are missing is that you don't know why the coaches do what they do.

How many games did it take Lewandowski to blend and start scoring for Bayern. Suarez needed about a dozen games too.

All the players Rooney played with are gone and this is like blending a new. New style, possession and technicality instead of our usual run, speed, push, attack, attack, counter attack.

This is about Rooney and how we can move the team forward. It is not Rooney vs Costa. In my opinion they are both crap right now so what is the point. If we want to compare Rooney it should be with Neymar, Suarez, Benzema, Lewandowski, Aguero, Zlatan not relegation battlers like Diego Costa and Hidden Hidezard cheesy

Before our game against West Brom, I read on this thread that Rooney's game against CSKA was a fluke that he would be shyte to his usual shyte self in the next game.

Rooney performed far even better. Instead to hope for a new dawn, he is being completely written off.

On this thread, it gives people ecstasy to say Rooney is finished no matter the situation on ground. Thank God this is not Old Trafford.

Not about Rooney Vs Costa for me either.

All the strikers you mentioned, there is no one who had had a bad time for their clubs and were given a long time to get back. Except Neymar.

Benzema a needed two three seasons to be even a a good striker. He was just a step ahead of Higuain.

rooney's excuses are endless....

•play him as a #9
•play him as a #10
•play him as a CM
•LVG's system is at fault
•his teammates don't create chances
•fitness issues
•poor form is temporary
•he scores in patches
•confidence issues
•he's the father of a newborn
•fatigue
•burn-out
•et cetera

LOL. U like to generalize without reason. I have always tried to be fair and objective in my criticisms here , that is why i usually steer clear of the Rooney v RVP and other Rooney arguments you and Coogar inundate this thread with.

Last season i said i wanted Rooney and RVP both out preferably with RVP going first. I am not a Rooney hater but i am a Manchester United fan and i believe Rooney is drawing us back.Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Kanchelskis were not this bad before SAF bounced them for fresher legs.

In Lingaard,Martial,Depay,Wilson and Adnan we have fresher and faster legs that can make our possession game pay off....we just need pace in attack. I am not saying all these young players will make it at United but we need players of that ilk (young, hungry with PACE AND PAWA) to take our attack to the next level. Rooney is not young, always looks overfed, lacks pace and has little pawa left

Rooney did well and played smartly in the last game. He did everything rightly until late in the second half when he appeared tired.

His run for the pass he gave to Mata shows he can still be very fast and pacing. That speed was unimaginable. A run that could have been expected from a top too striker. He also picked passes between lines like the one he gave to Schweinsteiger. He moved the ball forward driving some yards, not just relying on square passes.

My take is that Gaal is not a fool to play him.

Gaal has a reason for playing him, and it's beginning to pay off.

We have only two players who when in form can help us with a lot of goals. Rooney and Martial. You cannot drop either of these two.

Particularly, Rooney is the one for the manager to get into form for us to have great games against such teams as Madrid, Barca etc. Experience matters.

The last 6 months is far more important than first 3 months of a league. When the going gets tough those young legs might let you down.

2877 PL mins - 12 goals(rooney)
2144 PL mins - 10 goals(RVP)

why is rooney's number so fantastic considering he played 700+ PL mins more than RVP with only 2 miserable goals to show for it?

Well it appears we are in agreement that Rooney should compete with Herrera for the no 10 spot while Martial plays on top.
In the best of worlds i would like Mata to move to compete with Rooney for the 10 position while Herrera drops down to compete with Schweinsteiger in CM while Carrick is a sub for MorganS. That way we have Lingaard,Young,Depay on the wings.

The way this team is built and taught we will have possession advantage (even with Rooney at 10) against all but the best teams, now what we need is pace n penetration at the 9 and on the wings and Rooney can't give us that

Coogar forget that thing, those 3 are finished strikers though Rooney is the least finished. Remember i warned you about Falcao and his ACL injury potential last season. You can see even Strootman is having problems. ACL is injury is terrible and unpredictable, you prepare for the worst and just hope and pray for salvation.

None of those numbers look good for those three players since it was a bad goal scoring year for the whole team.
This season he isn't the first goal scoring option LVG prefers a SS in that "10" position only rooney is still capable of perform this function in the team.he will get us more goals from that position than Mata or Herrera.

Which kind of blending into a new system is Elampiro talking about? How many games did it take martial to blend into the system? Rooney has been playing in this system since last season so which kind of blending does he require to at least put in a decent performance per game? Let's face the truth for once! Rooney is no longer the player expected to drive our club to success, yes he can be a squad player but no longer a regular. Last year he played in a variety of positions n yet failed to nail a particular spot. He kept decent ninjas like Mata n Herrera on the bench and eventually was moved upfront which he sucked at it (scoring only one goal in the process).

I don't want to start a long argument about the white Pele but seriously the excuses are starting to hit the roof.

The point is we can not afford sitting on our hands and watching Rooney score 1 goal from August to December again while a better option like Martial is played out of position! We are chasing titles this season and it is going to be very tight at the top.

Let Rooney move to 10 and lets see, if he does not stink up that position too he can keep his place but if he rubbish there too let us try Mata or Herrera or Perreira there.

You can't keep playing average or rubbish and expect to keep your shirt while other boys come in play as well or even better and get sent back to the bench or are shunted to one side.

Mata,Herrera,Martial,Young and Lingaard have been better than Rooney this season. Rooney and Depay have been our worst attacking players this season.
