Why not!. Nigeria have the potential to rule the world, if we try. This's why I get annoyed when the politicians tell us Nigeria is a poor country.

How could Nigeria be a poor country?. We have just about the same population as Japan. But, we're more endowed naturally than Japan.

Therefore, if Japan could be the world's second or third largest economy, nothing stops Nigeria being the world's largest economy.

All we need is revolutionize our system of education and embrace science.

NIGERIA has been adjudged the world's 22nd largest economy with an annual growth rate of 5% during the course of 2015 according to the latest survey of the planet's wealthiest countries the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the figures published yesterday, Nigeria's gross domestic product (GDP) is set to total $1.105trn in 2015, representing a 5% growth from last year. Despite global crude oil prices falling by about three quarters over the last year, Nigeria has defied the negative growth that afflicted several crude-producing countries.

Of the world's 30 largest economies countries examined in the survey, oil producers like Brazil and Russia suffered declines in GDP. Africa's two other economies on the list Egypt and South Africa, who were ranked 24th and 30th respectively, enjoyed GDP growth rates of 5.2% and 2.4% respectively.

In terms of growth, Nigeria, was also the sixth highest achiever as only China, India, Egypt, Pakistan and the Philippines recorded higher GDP growth. Other key features of the survey was that China overtook the US as the world's largest economy with a GDP of $19.51trn, India moved into third place thanks to its 8.3% growth rate that bumped GDP up to $8.02trn and Egypt overtook South Africa as Africa's second largest economy.

Over the last 15 years, Nigeria has enjoyed annual GDP growth rates of about 7% but with crude oil prices falling to about $40 a barrel from over $100 a barrel, it is no surprise that growth has slowed. Despite this, the economy continues to diversify and the country remains on course to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world's top 20 economies by 2020.

International Monetary Fund statistics at October 2015

1. China: US$19.510 trillion (up 7.9% from 2014)

Largest economy is different from per capital income. Per capital income is what really affects the common man....

Largest economy is not the same as "e don better" . We have always been the largest exonomy in Africa yet we run to south africa daily.

What counts is per-capita-income. Na there we enter zero. grin

Anyways, na small small. Let's build infrastructure first, with social services.

Roads, airports, railway, hospitals, schools, colleges, libraries, research, industry and industries. Etc. these are what make a nation great. No be statistical economic mumbo jumbo.

Next pls cool

undecided But this means nothing.. The size of an economy has no bearing on the wealth of its citizens.. Check that list and you probably won't see half of the wealthiest per capita countries in there..

Real health of the economy for people is measured in:

- GDP per capita
- Employment rates
- adequate budget Deficit and debt management
- Price stability.

The size of the economy doesn't matter.. If it's shit, it's a big pile of shit
Stop being deceived by meaningless stats.

Xenophobic Zulus aren't going to like this. All they know how to do is carry spears and clubs, licking their sharp edges and chanting kill the Boers in their unclad peanuts and bosoms. Sometimes attack African immigrants and torching some of them alive. The little thing that is still saving that nation is the population of white people is high and when Nigerian environment is conducive enough we will asking for all their expertise to come over and that would mean the final end of Zululand.

You can kiss my cute a$$, Zulu masters! Nigeria remains the GIANT of Africa! All hail Nigeria!

Thanks to GEJ

The truth is GEJ worked wonders for the nigerian economy. At least this is an international survey so there is no bais. However the power drunk north and apc used lies to mislead the nation on the state of affairs.

Lets see what we will rank when buhari is done with his dull tenor

You can never hope to Jump from where you were to where China or U.S is now in a day..
What was U.S.A doing 60 years after their independence, they were still busy killing each other fighting a civil war over who needs slaves and who don't.. Now they are here after more than 250 years of independence.. 70 years ago 80% of Nigeria still have no idea what really a car is..
Nigeria can never jump to the level of U.S and China in a day, we are barely in our 50s after independence, development is a slow but consistent process that achieves desired results with time..
we only need leaders that care ..

Tell that to Singaporeans S.Koreans, Malays Brazillans. These are nations that we were mates during the 50s,60s,70s. If you must compare yourself do that with persons you grew up together and not giving excuses like not seeing a car 80 years ago. It's too lame.

Honestly, can you compare the Singapore of today with Nigeria of today? Singapore got their independence in 1965.

I don't agree that the market is saturated for small scale manufactured products. You can earn a good living by making stuff. People do this in China, India, US etc. How then can you say the Nigerian market is saturated? Millions of households still lack many items, and with incomes rising, there is a market for finished products of all kinds.
Thats the point! Income is not rising, each time the naira devalues our take home shrinks comparatively thereby lowering consumer spending, we are in deep shit and the president doesn't seem perturbed. We need an urgent economic policy statement from him so that we can plan.

It's simple. The population of the UAE is 9.3 million.

You can see that China has the largest economy but the per capita income of China is $7,594 while that of USA, the world's second largest economy is $54,629. All this are 2014 figures. So the size of the economy does not really affect the life of the average common man.
What counts is per capita.

I'm forced to ask what your highest education qualification is. Just imagine. something which is rated over the year and Buhari has not spent up to a year. How can you not see this as a justified Gej's achievement? or his Gej the one responsible for current fuel scarcity? huh... ok. the power dropped again, is Gej still the one affecting that? haba...
