Am yet to be fully convinced we have matured politicians in this clime, everyone kinda in it to clean out and point fingers once things go haywire, how on earth can a country be richly blessed in the soil, on the waters and good climate and still cannot stand on her feet never ceases to baffle me.

If i may go down memory lane, Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and Denmark as a whole is made up of 700 little islands by leveraging on their marine power they literally built an industry out of water! from fishing to tourism to having the largest container shipping cargo (MEASK) birthed from their country tells me the endless possibilities coastal industries can give birth to if we really take it serious.

Then you have a country like Ireland with ferry services across the English channels, carrying everything from trucks, cars, goods, services and what have you, sailing is bout 3 hours from Holyhead to Dublin and boy o'l boy, those ships never run empty and they do bout 8 trips a day btw Irishferries and Stanalines. . . . . . .again smart folks leveraging on their coastal powers.

Like someone opined earlier, would't it be so nice we have some kind of coastal travel between Lagos and Ondo? the benefit to dangote refinery and the allied industries that will spring up as a result of siting same in Ondo can't be a thumbs down in anyway.

Thank you, oh!! shocked grin I keep saying we have not scratched the surface of the huge potentials that exist in our waterways, and what we can achieve on different fronts, if we choose to focus on generating wealth and logistics solutions, using our water channels.

Take little Dover in the UK. Do you know how much they earn from those who use the waterways in their district? If there was a large ferry conveying cars from Lagos to Ondo, that could do the journey safely & efficiently in under 3 hours, what am I looking for on the road?? shocked I would simply hop on the ferry, enjoy the cool breeze and escape the chaotic traffic and bad roads.

When Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue was being reconstructed by LCC in 2006-2008, it used to take about 2 hours to get through the gridlock from Lekki to V/I, before anyone could move on towards Ikoyi area. I often escaped from the madness by taking a 15-minute speedboat ride from Tarzan jetty at the Maroko end of V/I, to Queen's drive in Ikoyi. I usually got to work ahead of my peers, refreshed and relaxed, ready to take on my daily assignments. cool

My colleagues living in that axis who took the option of going by road, always arrived in the office exhausted, grumpy and irritable after battling through the traffic. cheesy

Ooni begins work on N7.6b resort in Ile-Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has begun work on a N7.6 billion resort in the ancient town.

The Ife Grand Resort & Leisure is sited near the Ile-Ife toll gate on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway.

The project will be a replica but a far better model of his Inagbe Grand Resort in Lagos, built for N3.5 billion.

A close associate of the monarch said the project, a seven-star hotel, would consist of 300 rooms.

Facilities in the resort will include an artificial lake on which an 8,000-capacity floating bar will stand, spas, a golf course, three swimming pools, a lawn tennis court, an indoor sports hall, 30 horses and quad bikes for pleasure ride.
The resort will also feature a children’s play centre, mud brick houses, and a 5,000- guest hall.

Most of the materials to be used will be sourced from Ile-Ife and processed by the monarch’s factory.

Operating under the corporate name Gran Imperio Limited, Ogunwusi’s company specialises in developing estates and resorts.

The source added that the sites for other resorts had been acquired in Abuja, Port-Harcourt and Maiduguri.

The monarch, in his speech after his selection, said he would embark on activities to develop Ile-Ife.

Oba Ogunwusi is to be inaugurated as the 51st Ooni on December 7.

This will be great.

Holy Sh1t !!!!
I am fvcking excited. I pray this project comes to fruition as soon as possible. This are the kind of stuffs we expect from our traditional rulers.
Few months ago, through the influence of Emir Sanusi of Kano and Aliko Dangote, some members of the Blackstone Group, a leading multinational asset management, banking, investment & advisory firm, paid a visit to President Buhari in Abuja with the intention of bringing some FDI's to Nigeria.

Our Yoruba traditional rulers should also use their influence and connection to push for both local and foreign direct investments in their various domain. I am happy with what Ooni is about to do and i hope other Yoruba Oba's emulate him.

Lest I forget, they're building a next seaport in Lekki/Epe. I don't even think that one is necessary as well. They should just allow Ondo do the sea port and refinery.

These folks are about to mess up the Lekki/Epe axis with all the locusts in the rest of Lagos. They'll soon turn that area into a massive ghetto as well. Those are the clowns/rogues leading Yorubas.

We need better leaders with foresight - not these folks.

Bros, I think Lagos state shouldn't be blamed for luring investors to increase the IGR of the state. After all, these investors initially showed interest in Ogun/Ondo axis but the leaders of both States didn't somehow key into it. This is due to lack of foresight, innovation and free will to move their states to greater height. Shikena!

Reason why most investors are attracted to Lagos is because of the sea port and is importing and exporting axis of the country...

If they implements CONfab reports... And Ogun state and Ondo state is able to pull their resources together to build there sea ports and river ports... I'm sure they will give Lag a good run especially Ogun state who's already most industrialise state in Nigeria..

I think Ondo state has the longest coast in Nigeria and also has more crude oil and natural gas than Lagos. That's is also enough to attract investors to Ondo/Ogun axis. So, I still don't understand why they have to build another sea port in Lagos.

Confab report to be implemented! Well, let's keep our fingers crossed until then.

A FEW YEARS AGO...

It is always wonderful to hear news of Nigerians
doing great things in the diaspora. That is why we are very proud of Olu Onemola,
a Nigerian graduate at the Lehman College, the City
University of New York (CUNY), United States of
America who received seven awards at the
university’s 2012 graduation ceremony.

He received the awards during the graduation
ceremony held on Saturday in New York.
Olu is the son of Bukun-olu Onemola, Nigeria’s
Deputy Ambassador at the United Nations in New
York.
Olu studied Polititical Science at Lehman and
received the distinguished “Golden Key’’ award,
otherwise referred to as International Honour
Society which is an academic honour society for
high-achieving scholars.

Other awards are the Pi Sigma Alpha, National
Honour Society in Political Science , and The Jacob
Hammer Memorial Prize in English which is
awarded to a student leading in theatre
performance.

He also won the Edgar Dawson Prize in Political
and Legal Theory which is an award to the
outstanding Political Science graduate with the
strongest portfolio of political and legal essays.
Onemola also received the CUNY Vice-Chancellor’s
Excellence in Leadership Award, and the Cum
Laude Award .

This is a Latin term that signifies “With Honours”,
a distinction bestowed on graduates that fall within
a 3.4 to a 3.59 GPA on a four-point scale.
Speaking on the awards, the elated Onemola said
they had inspired him to continue to thrive in all
his endeavours, regardless of any obstacles that
might stand on his way.

“My impression is that hard work definitely pays
off. Being able to achieve such feats, while serving
as the President of the Student Government, is a
testament to hard work,’’ he said.
Well done Olu.

has anyone noticed that a large majority of lawyers and learned legal practitioners in Nigeria are yoruba. A glance into all the election tribunal victories will corroborate this. Our learned legal practitioners have won even the almost impossible cases with their brilliance and intelligence.

rather than beating our chests, we yorubas have been able to excel in all endeavors and sectors. It beats my imagination why some Igbos will be comparing their relatively unpopular selves to the yorubas.

EoD, No more no less....I'm going to give two examples to illustrate my position that both the leaders & the led deserve each other...

1. I have an aunt who has virtually abandoned her real biz to engage in "area godmother politics", her definition of a "good" leader is how much the said politician is ready to cough up to maintain their loyalty...

She's in her 50's & been in politics since forever, only changes allegiance as belle face, once i was pushed to ask her "infrastructures & good governance nko", she just looked @ me & smiled like i was a mumu & asked if i think Nigeria can ever be great again , said the country is spoilt beyond repair & each man is for himself...

I was hurt beyond words that day & you know why? She & her cohorts are the delegates that choose candidates in primaries... cry

2.A family friend is an engineer in an IOC/NNPC JV, said there was a community development scheme that the IOC was to undertake, refurbishment of classrooms & the small health centre in the community.... He said the project didn't see light of day cos the elders were distinctly split into two groups

Group A, wanted the company to pay them royalty before embarking on a project that is meant to benefit their own community while Group B claimed their own children were no longer of elementary school age & the funds for the said project should be shared to everyone to solve other needs....

He said the oyinbo men just kept asking the naija guys if there is mass insanity that the community need to be tested for cos they just don't get the kind of mentality that inhibits personal progress & development....

I'm disappointed with the slow progress of this admin but I'm still holding on to hope, & on the travel thing, IT IA UNFAIR the position people have taken, it is not like he is on vacation in the carribeans...

Shy, do an analysis of the places he had been to in recent days, they are all important, Gas exporting countries in Iran, Chogm in Malta, Climate change in france have one impact or the other on our policies ..

I believe the new year will come with new things...

90% of the people complaining actually are praying for the failure of the nation to mock the state of the nation...

Crude oil as at yesterday was 44.50$ P.B, no matter what we say or postulate, this nation is a mono exporting one & to diversify won't happen in 6mths, even 12 months is too soon!!!

However, are those trips necessary especially when the country is burning and there are loss of lives due to terrorism and national security? The VP can always attend such meetings.

Also, what's the essence of placing the commonwealth jamboree over national security? The whole commonwealth nonsense is basically just an effigy to celebrate the ghost of the imperial British Empire and its conquered territories, just as the flags of those conquered countries are all over Buckingham palace. What does Nigeria even benefit from being a commonwealth country cos the last I checked the UK treats Nigerians the same way it treats folks from countries that aren't part of the commonwealth and the UK definitely has no money to invest in Nigeria. The country is also looking for investments in China and Russia.

The Iran trip could've been postponed. Yes, Iran is an oil producing country but of what economic benefit is an Iran that's trying to get back-breaking western sanctions off its back to Nigeria? The same Iran is trying to get help from the Russians and Chinese.

None of these trips mean nothing without adequate security, a thriving economy, and a stable country. The old man is just wasting his time. Then again the average African leader is a m0ron, hence western countries treat African countries/leaders like babies they need to help change diapers from time to time.

You took their lands for FTZ and Lekki/Epe airport. Fair enough. Those two will benefit the axis immensely if completed.

But why go drag something that will likely pollute an area where folks are mostly riverine people, without adequate compensation/resettlement?

Also, why even bring the refinery to Lagos? Isn't the place already congested? These rogues think out of their arses and these are the clowns folks are touting as great leaders - hysterical. All they care about is what they'll steal and add to their family empires - not the people.

That project should have been cited in Olokola.

The leaders are not aliens from Mars but fellow Nigerians and Yorubas. Get off your butts, roll up your sleaves, get in the trenches and show us how it is done. If you don't do that, I'm afraid 10years from now, you may still be on nairaland criticising the leaders of the day.

I have confidence that most of you are mature enough to take constructive criticisms. Yoruba youths ronu o.

Speaking of the Nigerian Gambling industry,I know Akin Alabi is also the owner of Nairabet. Its Nigeria's first online sports betting portal and probably the most popular.Adebutu has no rival in the lotto business grin

Akinalabi is a Nairalander.

he used to organize bets on the sport section between me and sauron before he went PLC

His username is akinalabi

The current Ooni was into real estate development before becoming an Ooni. Its a good thing younger and educated people are getting into these royal stools and I believe they would make changes beneficial to their town not just collecting peoples wifes and placing curses on people
