many royal fathers are or were highly educated, it's not as rare as you're making it seem.

as per wife snatching, etc, that is in the same boat as the story being peddled about out of wedlock children being the norm in Yoruba culture.

I make it a point of duty to always walk away from issues that can cause strife but you know quite well that you have twisted my words but for what purpose & intent i do not understand sad.....

It is not in the yoruba to celebrate pregnancy out of wedlock but i (& i'm sure 90%of yoruba people can attest to this fact) have not known one teenage pregnant girl, unmarried single grown lady, or a 2nd wife to be lampooned or thrown out into the streets...

I have spoken to people from a tribe who claim they'd prefer feticide is ok to add to fornication & they really don't care what happens to the child & the mom as long as no one knows about it, or do you think the baby selling thing doesn't have a root cause ..

Take a random census & do a comparative analysis of how many illiterate artisans in the SW really went through the whole nine yards of marriage.... They have their women & their children & they are living their life as they deem fit, who then has the self abrogated right to take them to task for it ?!!!

For clarity sake ONLY (don't owe no one any explanation) I will reiterate this : Yoruba people have deep cultural values & norms who don't make it a NORM to have out of wedlock children, but when people do, they are not treated as PARIAHS like folks who claim to be of the race closest to JESUS but whose ways of life has no resemblance to that..

BTW, Some beautiful pic of colourful yoruba engagement to feast the eyes on & help cure some craziness & petty mindedness. ..

Ogun State has done a lot in this regard though. They approached companies from Lagos and offered them free land, tax holidays etc. Others need to do the same thing

True!! I know a few companies that relocated from Lagos State to Ogun State, especially around the Otta axis.

There is also an issue of integration. I would like a rail system that runs from Ibadan to Lagos with stops in Ogun State. This way, you can live in any of these three states and work in another.

Then link these states with Osun, Ondo and Ekiti. That will encourage companies that want to set up in these states as they are sure their raw materials can easily reach them And their products reach any market in the SW easily

Good idea!! But can the governors of these states get their act together to drive this project?? Rail transport is capital intensive and has a long timeline for completion, as a lot of heavy construction work is done in laying the tracks etc., That is why I suggested getting private investors to come in after creating the enabling laws, and giving them tax holidays so they can recoup their money. wink

The population that would use the service is huge, and with proper management the investors should be able to recoup their investment in 5 years or less. Getting right-of-way and paying compensation to villagers whose land would be required for the project would be the prerogative of govt like you had suggested in your earlier post, but they could work out an arrangement that would see government taking up shares in the the railway company, after the tax holiday expires. sad

During the tax free period, a percentage of the commission on tickets sold to passengers could go to the govt, even if corporate tax is not paid by the railway line owners due to their pioneer status. Any shops located within the railway terminals would not be exempt from tax. And PAYE could still be deducted from employees salaries. undecided

In 2010, Spain built the Madrid - Albacete railway line spanning 304 km. Cost per km was 9.57 million euros per kilometre or roughly 2.9 billion euros for the entire project. In China the Yichang-Wanzhou railway line was built for 9.1 million US dollars per kilometre.
Total cost of the 377 kilometre rail line was over 3.4 billion US dollars in 2011. The rail line consisted of a mixture of tunnels and bridges which spread over 278 kilometres out of the 377 kilometres. Source: http://www.railway-technical.com/finance.shtml

Laudable laudate....very good idea but given the amount needed, it might make much more sense if outsiders (investors) can be brought in to bring in the desired funding necessary. A project running into billions of dollars is not one that our states are presently able to fund given their present financial dispositions.

A PPP could be explored and I do agree that the benefits will outweigh the costs.

Blah blah

madam, the point we are making here is Yoruba culture does not encourage or celebrate having kids out of wedlock. I do not know why you are intentionally spreading this misinformation ( perhaps you are one).

Be that as it may, having kids out of wedlock is dependent on individual and family values, not Yoruba culture as a whole.
If polygamy is what you want to discuss, then say so specifically.

as per some of you who cant make any reference to Yoruba without bringing in other tribes, how is that my concern?

As Mimiko Flags-Off Maternal Newborn & Child Health Week

The Executive Secretary, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr Ado Muhammed has declared that Ondo is the best in terms of Primary Health Care delivery in Nigeria.
Dr Muhammed made the declaration at the Flag-off ceremony of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week, November 2015 edition held at the Mother and Child Hospital in Akure.
Speaking on behalf of other partner agencies including the World Health Organization and UNICEF, the NPHCDA boss commended Governor Olusegun Mimiko for his unprecedented initiatives in Maternal and Child Health survival.
Dr Muhammed who was represented by Mrs Titilayo Adeseun, said other States are copying what Mimiko has done in the area of Primary Health Care like the Abiye Safe Motherhood programme and the ORIREWA initiative which he said has received many accolades globally with a charge to other States to emulate Ondo's example.
Addressing the gathering, Gov. Mimiko assured of his administration's commitment to more sensitization for the general public on Maternal and Child survival programmes in the State.
He commended all stakeholders for the successful implementation of previous rounds of the programme in the State and appealed to them to ensure this November edition records a huge success.
The Governor said, interventions that will be implemented during this November 2015 Maternal, New-born and Child Health week include Routine Immunization, Vitamin A Supplements, De-worming, Screening for Malnutrition, Antenatal Care ,Birth Registration, HIV Counselling and Testing among others.

YES Fellas, I'm loving how you keep kicking it on this thread. Thumbz.

MY LITTLE CONTRIBUTION:

Considering that Nigeria is gradually nearing the era of an economic meltdow (let's just assume we arent yet), dont you think embarking on additional capital projects by our SW governors will be like adding more salt to an injury wide open?

Osun state presently is on its toes striving to survive economically due to the reckless loads of capital projects commissioned by Aregbewere.

Ekiti state could barely perform even before the FG started cutting allocations.

Oyo state keeps wallowing in 'unreasonable' debts that makes it difficult for development to move at minimum expected levels. This definitely can now even get worse now that FG is cutting down the monies.

This leaves only Ondo, Ogun, and Lagos to find a way of maneuvering the present situation. Though I'm aware Lagos and Ogun can cope well with situation considering the enourmous income both states generate, i doubt Ondo will ever weather the storm if it doesnt put an IMMEDIATE end to the same mismanagement that is presently devouring the 'triad' (Osun, Oyo, Ekiti). It will sure take no time before a 'quad' evolves if such does continue.

Lets face it people, THIS AINT NO TIME FOR PROJECTS, but THE TIME FOR REVENUE GENERATION. Its now or never!!. Past years have been wasted despite various warnings to states to look out of the center pause. Either they take the pain to cough out the resources to build internal revenue OR..... They Sink.

I welcome alternate opinions fellas.

@StuntinBlack: how can you raise more revenue in a recession, though? People are earning less and businesses are making less profit. It could be like kicking people when they are down. However, since it's something that must be done eventually, the governments should give it a try.

Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by StuntingBlack(m): 6:06pm On Dec 01, 2015
Yeah Seun, state governments can definitely find ways of getting cash other than milking the poor populace. You and I are quite aware taxing people wont solve the current problem. Rather than tax people, states sure will have ways of reeling in the costs without the people feeling it, trust me. Ok, take a situation whereby a transport scheme starts on a relatively LOW side with almost everyone prefering to go on buses rather than private transport. A slow and gradual fee increase is a VERY EFFECTIVE way of taxing without the populace even caring, wont it?.... I mean, states need not tax before making money. Agriculture, sports, transport, low/medium/high cost housing, etc are a FEW ways these states arent clearly ready to try out due to acute greed and corruption.
