and to those of you talking rubbish, in america, police officers do extra work driving around and protecting celebrities. the question you need to be asking yourself is ' was he doing this on his day off or was he on duty when he was driving timaya ' ?. thats the only question you need to be be bothered with. in every civilized country in the world, police officers do exactly what this police officer is doing. thats how they supplement thier income

Not in Uniform
A private security firm yes

That policeman is being paid for by taxpayers . . i.e YOU!!!

I doubt he is allowed to work privately in his uniform on days off
If I was the IG, he will be in my office first thing on Monday Morning.

Police man driving one ordinary citizen, when a whole community has none to protect them. Tax payers money wasted - only in Nigeria does this happen.

Enough is Enough!!!!!

Say no to Government Nepotism!!!!

Dude!! You just made my point for me undecided

It's still private security and not under the state police, which for one thing, would mean that no state police uniform can be worn on private duty/business.

What you have in Nigeria is the Nigerian force itself being subjected to ridicule by having it's officers act as bodyguards for people, while operating under the Nigerian Police Force.

I hope you see the difference

btw, what kind of experience did you expect would be needed for private security firms, if not combat experience, be it military or police. Doesnt mean though, that you would see guys in full military gear guarding jay-z or something.
you dont know what you are talking about

i was just about to post you several USA police bodyguards in police uniform guarding clients but nairaland will not let me. but you are tripping. you dont know what you are talking about

Lagos to Warri is not up to 8 hours ..via public transport its roughly 6hours max ,using a private transport or ur own ride like they did should be much faster unless they encounter traffic

I still maintain that if they are with celebs in full state police uniforms, then it must be to escort them into, or out of a venue.

U.S police don't act as body guards and escorts for celebs in their personal lives dude undecided

Absolutely FALSE statement.
A policeman on duty and in uniform on or off duty will NEVER drive a private citizen in America. Absolutely NOT!!!
Even Obama is not driven by a policeman in uniform. He is driven by Secret Service.

This never happens in America. Celebrities like Byounce, etc are never ever driven by police.
In most cases they drive themselves and if they violate traffic, they will be ticketed by police.
Don't forget cases of Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber, and several others who were sent to jail for traffic violation.

Please stop misinforming people.

Nigerian celebrities, like anywhere in the world are private citizens. We can use our police to drive them.

Police can protect them if there is a verifiable risk to their life, but not drive them.

beyonce does not need to be driven by the police. they have their own private bodyguards. now in my town of chicago, you will see football players with police escorts all the time. you can hire the police for protection for the day. chicago police offers that service. its more tax money for them

Please post the story specifically detailing that these police officers were hired by the actor as bodyguards but just chose to wear their normal day uniforms.

All I see here is 2 police officers on a public subway platform protecting everyone . . A very very very common sight these days. Ive even seen the ones at Euston Station give directions to lost tourists.

There is even a whole police force here called the British Transport Police

Police can moonlight in the US, but not on their Uniform. Certainly not parading themselves as police while moonlighting, unless there is a public threat where they can identify themselves as off duty officers. Even at that, there are strict rules guiding what they can do or can't do.

you are very correct. its not allowed in the UK. and you are very correct in that its called moonlighting. however america is all about money. hey thay had police escorts and bodyguards for al capone and their mobsters. in america you can pay for anything you want. if you have the cash, you can get 10 police officers protecting you if you can afford it. its more money for the state

Police escorts yes I agree.

Not police driving footballers in their private cars!!!!

There is a major difference between police escort and police driving private citizens in their private cars.

Step back a bit than think about this
What happens when the people they are protecting break the law? Do they look the other way?
Isn't there going to be a conflict in interest?
When do they put their police cap on and when do they put their bodyguard cap on
Do you see the problem?
No police officer should be on anyone's payroll
If they are then its likely that their bosses boss is not aware of it.

police in america are gangsters. they break the law openly and dont care. you better start watching shows on cops in america. the police are more uncivilized and barbaric than the citizen they are paid to protect. in fact they will use drugs with the client they are paid to protect

Can you provide a link specifically stating that a police officer in America can be hired as a bodyguard?

If you can't, do us all a favor and stop arguing blindly because it's absolutely impossible. Off duty, yes but not while on duty. I have a friend who's a reserve police and occasionally, they'd provide added security at venues or events which is technically part of the duties of the police department, security and orderliness in situations like that.

As far as being a straight up bodyguard to a celebrity, no way Jose!
