mamaafrik: What have we ever had as a nation in common with Judaism to use Yiddish in our coat of arms or Insignia. From what I know Hebrew is often employed in Nigeria by pentecostal churches thou many of them may not know it, e.g Shalom and many old testament statements 1 Like |

gimakon: Before the British came, the Portuguese made contact and before then over 1/3rd of the nation was using Ajami and Arabic in the court of kings and used in successful trade between northern Nigeria and Instanbul, from terracotta and art found in Ife and as far south as Edo, such civilisations may have had contact with Arabian traders too . The Yoruba text likewise, efik, Igbo etc was developed out of English alphabets post the introduction of Ajami. So in effect it is the oldest and earliest used text in Nigeria 1 Like |

2dillu2: It's not a "wailing" thing, the OP was simply asking when in history any majority of nigeria's population agreed that Arabic (even if not islamic) inscriptions should feature in our "National" Army's isignia. I 'd rather you re-examine why it comes to you as "wailing". Issues are thrashed when their knowledge comes up. He's just pointing our attention towards a hitherto unminded feature. |

mamaafrik:lolz, iyawo, let my husband catch u o. I wldn't know, none of us can say for sure since we weren't there when the symbol was being designed and made. What I can say to this is Arabic is just what it is, a language also wc is even also used by Christian in the middle east, speaking Arabic doesn't make u a Muslim, cos that's wht seems to be getting Christians worked up. From history Arabic was one of the earliest languages introduced to Nigeria esp the North from wc the Ajami lang was extracted. This symbol has been there for decades but the OP only brought it up out of intolerance wc they most times accuse Muslims of, not cos he was curious to knw what it meant or why it's there but just the hatred for Muslims. I might be wrong but tht is what I feel. And from many of the comments u can see it's cos of the hatred and nothing more. Personally I don't care what lang is there, never even noticed till when the OP brought it up. As if the language there will pay my sch fees or feed me. Wareva 2 Likes 1 Share |

mamaafrik: That would be more inappropriate historically because, apart from the advent of western Catholicism which did not use Yiddish or Hebrew in delivery of the gospel, Nigerians have never had any historic BC cultural contact with Judaism or Hebrew. However in the last 350 years there is proof we had contact with Arabic traders, clerics and scribes; We even lost kingdoms to Fulani Jihad from North sub-sah Africa. That is our in-alienable history and joint heritage, embrace it and promote it as a possible source of wealth through tourism |

Mind your Folly here suweetgala , So will they inscribe Ibo, Yoruba or any other Nigerian language on either our Airforce or Navy insignia ? Present day Nigerian defense and security agencies are heavily influenced, manipulated , and mismanaged by our fellows from the North ! Yet WE SCREAM ONE NIGERIA !!!!! . Nigerian military forces should represent the entire country and not a section of the nation ..... Or we go waka leave una !!!!! sweetgala: |

EloquentMedia: When you understand that Jesus most likely did not speak Yiddish as we see it today not to even speak of Latin or English you realise the magnitude of your illiteracy and stupidity. Jesus very likely may have had contact with Aramaic and similar Semitic languages from which this language was extracted 1 Like |

made1: You have a problem understanding and I see it as a lack of knowledge for which God has warmed as an express-way to doom. Ajami was derived from Arabic which in turn was derived from Aramaic, which is a Semitic language which shares it's roots with Hebrew and Canaanite text, and other ancient text from the times of Moses and beyond. It is more than Islam, as it was used by many non-islamic civilizations. Unlike English alphabets and text which was derived relatively recently in historic context, English itself is a corruption of Latin, Hebrew, Germanic languages, Celtic and Nordic and would you like to guess Aramaic ! To seal the deal over 1/3rd of what is now Nigerian territory was in contact with Arabic and used it in commerce and governance before any other language aspired to such. I would also like to point out the difference between a written language and one without text, until the presence of the white man, All Nigerian languages and culture except for Arabic and Ajami were archived as unclear cryptography, art and folklore. |

JayJustus: Well he failed to express himself clearly and I would take the liberty to do so, What he should have typed is "Arabic alphabet and language does not mean Islam/Hausa/Fulani" or whatever your mind may lead you to think. Aramaic which forbore Arabic is a Semitic language which existed when the Jews left Egypt and crossed into Canaan at the time of Moses, There are scholarly articles which even point to the fact Jesus might have spoken Aramaic, Aramaic was widely spoken in the are of Jesus birth and extended to what id now Catalonia towards the Afghanistan. Which means that Aramaic and Arabic pre-dates Islam To further re-affirm this an Arab man is not necessarily a Muslim, before the advent of Islam, there were many eastern Orthodox religions, Heretics, Agnosticism (You need to brush up on your history) which were practised by the people in what is now the middle east and the home ground of Islam. Till date there are many Arabs who are not Muslim by tradition over many centuries and even Millennia, they have survived the persecution by Judaism, Christianity,Islam, the Herods of this world and ISIS are giving them another wicked go as we speak. What do you think the temples and historical sites and monuments ISIS have been destroying in Iraq, Syria and Sinai etc are ! The region that is now Iran which was known as Persia were culturally different before the Jihad that swept down and took Constantinople(Istanbul), Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon,Jordan,Palestinian, Jerusalem etc were the people mentioned in the bible, all those tribes and cultures were from there. |
