Death Penalty Recommended For Rape by Nobody: 5:37pm On Dec 17, 2015
Rape cases have recently skyrocketed in Nigeria and it is time for all good people to be concerned. Hardly a day passes by without a thread or two created on Nairaland about rape. The National Assembly recently passed a bill stipulating a long prison sentence for convicted rapists but the animals in human skin moving around as men have not been deterred in their drive to traumatise our women and even children.

I think we need a stiffer penalty for rape. In 2008, Egypt recorded the lowest number of rapes and it is common knowledge that convicted rapists are executed in Egypt.

I hereby recommend either of these penalties for rape:

(1) DEATH PENALTY.

Where it is established beyond all reasonable doubts that rape has been committed, the culprit should be executed without delay. I suggest the Indonesian style execution where the culprit is made to face a firing squad of about 12 soldiers. Hanging or death by electric chair is also acceptable.

(2) CASTRATION.

Some people will argue that point (1) above is too harsh especially those against the death penalty so I have come up with solution (2). When an armed robber is caught, his weapon of terror i.e. his gun is taken away from him, in the same way, when a rapist is caught, his weapon of terror should be taken away from him i.e his manhood. Take away the rod of the rapist and our women will be safe.

The floor is open for intelligent contributions. personally, any of these options would suffice as penalty for convicted rapists.

I read through the thread with link hereunder and concluded that death penalty should be the sentence for rape, there just cannot be any other way:

How police corporal raped a 12 year-old- girl

Olalekan Lasisi, a-32 year police corporal attached to Ekiti State Police Command, has landed in ‘hot soup’ and risked losing his police certificate because he could not control his libido. Nigeria Standard learnt his lust for minor, especially under-age girls while on patrol has brought a lot of shame to the police.

Investigation by Nigeria Standard in Ado Ekiti revealed that Lasisi, by his action abused his privilege as a law enforcement officer when he allegedly raped and impregnates a 12-year-old pupil, Kemi Olawale (real names withheld). Olawale, a virgin and orphan raped twice by Lasisi around November last year is now six months pregnant.

Ambushed by Lasisi from school
Investigation by Nigeria Standard showed that this alleged ‘serial rapist’ sighted Olawale while being sent on errand in Basiri area of Ado Ekiti. Eye witness account had it that Lasisi looked everywhere to ensure no one sighted him. Immediately, he dragged her inside a bush and had several rounds of sex with the JSS 1 girl. He allegedly gagged her mouth in order not to attract attention of passers-by.

Victim stopped schooling
Few weeks after the incidence, the girl stopped schooling and was afraid to tell Mrs. Juliana Olajiga, her guardian for fear of being reprimanded. Moreso, Olajiga was said by neighbours to have traveled at a time the incidence occurred. Olajiga reportedly claimed that sometime ago she became sick and her children took her away from Ado Ekiti for proper medication.

Olajiga claimed that on her return by April, she noticed some changes in the body of Olawale. She confronted her that she may be pregnant, but the minor denied. To put her mind in rest, she took the ‘victim’ to a near-by laboratory for a clinical test. There, it was discovered that Olawale was already six month pregnant.

Olajiga wounded by Lasisi
When Olajiga invited Lasisi whose eyes were ‘red’, body stank of ‘alcohol’ to her house and confronted him on the damage done to the future of the JSS 1 pupil, he flared up, injured her, after dealing her several blows and slaps.

Women group rise in defence of rape victim
In view of the increasing rape incidence in the country, a non-governmental group (NGO) in Ado Ekiti, coordinated by Mrs. Rita Ilevbare petitioned Olayinka Balogun, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police (CP) and demanded that Lasisi be arrested for allegedly raping a minor after Olajiga had sought reliefs from the group.

CP position
In his response, Balogun, the police boss in Ekiti reportedly confirmed the receipt of the petition and said the suspect (Lasisi) had been arrested on the strength of the petition, adding that a senior police officer had been directed as an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) to handle the case.

Two persons arraigned for gang-raping 15-year-old girl

Two persons have been brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos over an alleged abduction and rape of a teenage girl.

The suspects identified as 19-year-old Jamiu Yusuf and Rilwan Oduntan, were said to have asked the girl for direction in the neighbourhood on May 12 at about 8pm who was in front of her residence on Onigide Street, Ijora Badia area of Lagos. While leading them to the said location, the suspect overpowered her and took her away to their residence where they allegedly took turns to rape her.

The victim was said to have confided in her mother, who later reported the case at the Ijora Badia Police Division, leading to the arrest of both suspects.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said she was overpowered by the suspect who forcefully had canal knowledge of her.

She said, “I was in front of my house, when they came to meet me and ask for direction to a street. I offered to help them, not knowing that they had plans to abduct and rape me. When we got halfway to the street, they suddenly grabbed my hands and forcefully took me to their house. They locked me up in the room and took turns to rape me.”

Both suspects were however arraigned before a chief magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, on two counts charge of abduction and rape.

While testifying in court, the police prosecutor, ASP Olusoji Ojaokomo, said both suspects were found guilty of the crime following investigation that was carried out.

He affirmed, “The accused conspired to abduct the girl and forcefully had carnal knowlegde of her without her consent.”

The charges read, “That you, Jamiu Yusuf and Rilwan Odutan, on May 12, 2015, at about 8pm on Onigide Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos, in the Apapa Magisterial District, did have sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

“That you, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did abduct the girl and have sexual intercourse with her, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 267 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”

The duo however pleaded not guilty to the offences, alleging that the young girl consented to the act.

Adekomaya consequently granted the accused bail in the sum of N30, 000 with one surety in like sum, adding that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The magistrate also ordered that the suspects should be remanded in prison custody, pending when their bail conditions are met.

Adekomaya adjourned the case till June 18, 2015.
