Please I truly need advice here. My visa appointment was actually through an agent and school is to resume by 2nd Jan but unfortunately there was early date in abuja until 12th of Jan. I made enquiries and some said I can only defer my admission while some said I can ask for extension from the school. I have suffered a lot from this so called agent, what do I do? |

Hello house, i've been a silent follower of this thread. I want to inquire if anyone here can suggest a safety school for me, one that wouldn't require TOEFL. Am applying for PhD programs in chemical engineering. My stats are GRE Q166 V157 A3 GPA 4.587/5 Dats 3.71/4 on the american scale. I have applied to the following schools University of colorado boulder University of delaware University of Notre dame Northwestern University University of Utah salt lake city. I'd appreciate any suggestions I get. Thanks 1 Like 1 Share |

Sorry for your denials. Do not apply for tourist visa yet unless you can demonstrate home ties. Do you have land property at least? If no, please don't apply for a visa again till your situation changes. |

wissy47:Yes, if u have the requirements and are able to defend yourself why you are changing the course but VOs prefer you choice course in masters as undergraduate |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by oxygen9gs: 6:23pm On Dec 26, 2015 |
I am not running away from the TOEFL, its quite an easy exam and I should have written it earlier on. I felt it wasn't necessary and that I could easily get a waiver. Until UT Austin refused to waive it for me. I basically wasted my $90 app fee. I checked for available TOEFL dates the earliest date was 29th Jan 2016.....UT Austin said they would have made there admission decision by then. With respect to Utah, I contacted them and they asked me to submit my application first and send in a letter responding to certain questions and starting why I feel I qualify for a TOEFL waiver. I risked it cos the app fee is jst $15 dollars. Thanks for your suggestion but am not looking for top schools anymore I need a safety school. I really appreciate you responding to my request. femi321: |

wissy47: Yes, its possible. The best way forward is to contact the program director of the department you wish to enroll in. Explain your situation and inquiry if they accept students of your academic background. If affirmative, ask for the amount of prerequisites that would be required. With that information, its up to you to figure out if you can handle the academic workload. Please be aware that changing majors is no easy feat as you would be required to put in more effort to succeed. In simple english: it would be a tough journey for you. Nonetheless, if you really want it, with hard work and the grace of God, the sky is your limit. (P.s: I speak from experience. I switched from Electrical Engineering to Computer Science. While they are kinda similar, they are as different as day from night.) |

oxygen9gs: Ha han!!! These your stats are very sexy o! If am correct, you have a first class in your bachelors abi? That's very commendable o - infact, three gunshots for you. That said, most times, when you apply for a PhD, by default, you would be "considered" for funding as most PhD programs are usually funded. The funding may be in the form of Teaching Assitant (TA), Research Assistant (RA) or a Graduate Assitant (GA). For some of these posiions especially the TA and GA, a proof of proficiency in English is usually a pre condition for acceptance. So its in your best interest to take the TOEFL. And given that you have already taken the GRE with a score of 157 in the verbal section, I can confidently assure you that you would make at least a 100/120 in the TOEFL. The TOEFL is really that easy. But since you have already applied and you took the GRE, chances are that when you get funded, you may be required to take a test to confirm your English proficiency. As for safety schools, I no sabi any one o. :p 1 Like |
