They have just acquired two French Mistral type Amphibious assault ships (around 1.2 billion euros) that can operate Helicopters and VTOL aircraft as well as sustaining a long-term ground operation. 4 Gowind class corvettes and 1 fremm frigate has also been acquired

Neither Nigeria or South Africa have this capability and will not have this in the forseeable future. In addition, the airforce of Egypt has just acquired 24 rafale jets (4.5/5 gen). Along with a dump ton of newish f16s.

The Army has been continuously upgrading with the latest iteration of Abrams tanks.

BUT!! With a Defence budget that was till last year less than both South Africa's and Nigeria's one has to ask how they still have funds left for training and maintainenc after an absolutely massive capital spree!!

Just to give an example SAAF has about 10-14 Gripen operational at any given time, which is about half of the total fleet, the German Luftwaffe for example has only 40 odd Eurofighters operational out of 120 Aircraft with.more than 35 in long term storage and 38 Tornados operational out of 89 aircraft(all of a sudden SAAF doesn't look to bad does it ?).

Now if you look at Egypt they have over 400 Fighter aircraft in service, that's double the amount of fighters than the Luftwaffe, yet they have a budget 1/5th of the German Airforce, now the question is, how do they maintain a fleet that size? The fact is its simply impossible, I can't imagine Egypt have more than 50 fighters operational at any given time....same goes with their Navy and Army, so much Equipment with such a small budget!!

If theres one force that's doing everything thing right its the Algerians, they have the largest Defence budget in Africa and unlike Egypt they are buying the need to haves NOT the nice to haves.
