2ways you can use 5/8(3/4Down) all through, also you can use both 3/4 and 5/8(3/4Down) 5/8 for the beams and 3/4 for the slab(require vibrating for compact).

1/2inch can be used for decking, the only reason why some pple don't use it for decking is that it will consume more cement and other materials than 3/4down but it will produce a good solid concrete more than 3/4down because of it thinness but the only thing that restrict most pple frm using half inch is that there is only a few quarry that produce the accurate sized half inch.... what most supplier supply as half inch is not up to sized one but a little bigger than rice ...... I think is the best if you can get the best size of it

I have just decided that no MORE NL people ever again.

* Most of them are unqualified, just because you see someone giving tips or pretty pictures or like our master packager who even had the cheek to take photos from another persons site and claimed he did the work. etc doesn't make them suitable to call themselves engineer.

* If I was an engineer that studied for it, I would be very angry as to how a lot of people here on NL especially have come to drag the profession on the floor like a Mop.

* I even engaged one so called engineer here on NL that was no more than a teenager with a keyboard and a phone, I shook my head in pity.

* Before engaging anyone, best to speak to someone like Haji or lawyer who is the moderator and do some research.

* A lot of so called Builders/Engineers on NL are quacks who know that most people that come here on NL especially for building are mostly people in diaspora, an average Nigerian wouldn't come online to start looking for builders or see some pretty pictures and engage a builder on that basis, its a face to face thing (usually you see someone that has done a good job in your area and you enquire about who did it or based on some other recommendation), forget internet. No wonder why one builder here was envious of people in Diaspora as dollar dey rise !!

* Lastly, Shine your eyes and ask a lot of questions.

Sand for Concreting and Casting isn't by the colour but by its Sharpness. I'm not against dis yellow colour sand, it maybe Hydrous Aluminium Silicate sand(kaolinite) and if it is, it's not used for casting but for Paper companies, for Paints making as well as fertiliser. Some Paints manufacturing companies in Ogun State collect it from Suppliers, there is a reasonable deposit at a location in Ogun State.


If the purpose is to use it with granite then it must be sharp, if it is sharp no worries but if otherwise... i advise you get a sharp sand irrespective of the colour and should be salt - free.


But one cannot judge the sand from just pictures but by seeing it.

Colored sand indicate the presence of impurities like clay, dirt, chemical contamination etc. These are undesirable properties of fine aggregates as specified in codes of practice.

It is basically specify to use clay free sharp sand for any format of construction. The clay content can however be reduced by watching sand meant for construction after purity test has been conducted on it
