Our useless Political and Military Elites looted and squandered our oil money for the past 40 years and now we are going to an Islamic bank to borrow money to fund our budget. Our Northern elites like Buhari and Audu Ogbeh are paying lip services to agriculture. Buhari does not seem to like Agriculture even though he is a cattle farmer. He strongly desired the oil money that is not forth coming anymore due to falling value of oil in the international market 5 Likes 2 Shares |

The fact that this thread reached 4 pages without anyone from the pro-Buhari debaters mentioning the fact that Islamic Financing was used by even the UK government to raise funds, shows the dearth of facts-based argument on Nairaland these days. UK government issued Sukuk (Islamic finance) to raise funds, 3 years ago, I guess they also wanted to Islamise UK. https://next.ft.com/content/7c89467e-fc4e-11e3-98b8-00144feab7de http://qz.com/352609/the-uk-wants-to-lead-the-globe-in-islamic-finance/ 5 Likes 1 Share |

Jarus: These jihadist banks always look for govt patronage in order to anchor themselves into the economy. Whatever the case the same Islamic banks have been accused by the British in funneling cash and sponsoring global terrorism https://moneyjihad./2013/01/07/sharia-banks-that-fund-terrorism/ 1 Like |

A lot of credit to the Buhari government if the previous govt left a high foreign reserve that would cushion the fall in oil price and it won't be necessary to source for money to fund the budget now. |

The worst state of unconscious intellectual sub-consciousness is when it gets blended with ethno-religious bigotry. The same people that frowns at labeling every drug related news from Malaysia or Indonesia, fake drugs from India or China, or human trafficking to Italy as predominantly synonymous with a particular region in Nigeria would be quick to point accusing fingers at any news relating to Islam without any further investigation or internet search to broaden their knowledge. The greatest freedom is the freedom from fear. The ranting by non-Muslims especially SOME Christians on issues that relates to Islam at times makes me feel that nothing offer a better manifestation of their lack of understanding of the faith they profess. In such a weak state of religious conviction, they assume everything from the West is Christian whereas it is the contrary. Such manifestations only make Christianity appear to non-Christians as though the religion falls for everything West because it doesn't stand for something on its own. In any case, personally, I have met with friends and also have devout and true Christians in my family. Thank God for them. They and I, and people who think alike knows very well that nobody can 'religionize' Nigeria. With due regards to the former CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor who once threatened to open a Christian bank when Jaiz bank begins operation. Kindly check who are the majority of the main customers of Jaiz bank. I am sure Pastor Ayo's microfinance bank also operates on the compound interest principle which is one of the reasons Nigeria's growth has been retarded. The following quote was made by former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo at the G8 Summit in Okinnawa, Japan in 2000. All that we had borrowed up to 1985 was around US$5 billion, and we have paid about US$16 billion. Yet we are still being told that we owe about US$28 billion. That US$28 billion came about because of the injustice in the foreign creditors’ interest rates. If you ask me what the worst thing in the world is, I will say it is compound interest! Just in case you need to know about sukuk and countries that have issued and benefited from its underlying structure, check https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/media/lancaster-university/content-assets/documents/lums/economics/Sukukarticle-Izzeldin.pdf, www.sukuk.com. Thanks |
