cutienik: Do you have older kids? My 1yr 8mths son used to cry and run from potty. What I did was to tell his older ones that when they want to poo or wee, they should tell me to his hearing.when they do i'll ask them to bring the potty and poo or wee in it so that he can see them. When they're done,we all clap for the person that did it and I tell him 'poo poo in the potty' he'll repeat it after me. Within 2 days, he began to willing sit and when he's done, he'll shout 'poo poo in the potty'. Alternatively you can buy the soft baby toilet seat that fits on the toilet. My daughter never used a potty, she started potty training directly on the normal toilet seat(with the soft baby type fitted in). With my first child, when DH wanted to use the loo,he would take my son in with him to watch and understand what was expected of him. Hope this helps. 3 Likes |

tatacherie: Did any of the suggestions work? Sorry oh! I just know you'll have to increase her water. Warm water works well in these scenarios.giving some water before her milk like someone suggested may help. The sounds from the nose meme be sure you don't cover her nose with bobby while she's feeding! As for that hand Pele oh, sleep on your left side, drink more water and use the lofenac gel as suggested plus bandage. Its likely to be carpel tunnel syndrome 2 Likes |

goldmine: big fat lie i live in a country where everything about a child is well monitored. my health visitor (that visits my baby at home to check on him and ensure he is well and hitting all his milestones) is fully aware/advised on reducing the ratio of water to the formula as she said its one of the main reasons why some babies are constipated. the cheaper brand you switched to will definitely contain a lower percentage of whatever composition when compared with the high end brands which is why your baby wasn't constipated even though you stuck to the guidelines on the team. my baby is on Aptamil. sticking to the Aptamil's suggested scoops leaves him constipated - i have tried this twice. 6 Likes |

Hafsat24: the reason is hunger! are you on EBF? if not, give him formula at night and watch him sleep happily. regarding mouth sucking. . . how old is your baby? my niece did the mouth sucking thing while she was teething however as soon as all her teeth sprung out and she was fully on solids (1year old + ), she stopped. 2 Likes |

helovesme: He's 6weeks..I was on EBF but not anymore..thing is he can suck for 2hrs and still not be satisfied..i give him the formula only twice a day..i try my best to breastfeed all through inbetween..true to your words..when I give formula at night he sleeps all through till morning Truth be told I'm not happy giving formula ..I wanted EBF..in all this he's still not chubby yet and my neighbour who keeps ringing it in me ears that he's too skinny and I should go see a doc isn't helping matters |

Hafsat24: your baby is a boy and people say boys eat a lot and i think its true. my baby too can suck for africa. as he is milking me, he is also whoozing down aptamil. no time! i was also like you. i wanted to do EBF but my baby was never satisfied. he would always end up crying. my mum would be like ''this boy is hungy ooooooooooooooooo'' and i will just carry face and insist that ''no, he's not hungry, i am on EBF'' and my mum would YIMU. LOL . the first day i gave him formula and i noticed no more crying, i actually felt very, very bad because it meant all these while he had been hungry hence why he was crying. since then, i adopted full combination feeding. 70-80% breastmilk and 20% water/formula. some days i give him formula during the day and then i breastfeed him from say 6pm and anytime he wakes up till morning. some days its vice versa. maybe you should increase the number of bottles he takes a day. have you checked his weight with the medics to see if he is within the percentile for his age? IGNORE your neighbour. is she a scale ? lol. how does she know that he is underweight. if he cries a lot, its hunger oh. just increase the number of bottles you give him. a child should not starve or be underfed just because we are eager to do EBF. 6 Likes 1 Share |

My dear I won't attribute d patches on ur baby's face to allergy because my baby had same patches all over his body from 4 to 8weeks. His pead said I should let it be and it would go on its own but I just could not so a friend adviced I use nizoral shampoo on him and that was d magic. After 2 days I saw d difference. Yorubas call d skin stuff eela and different mums used different things that worked on their baby. I used d nizoral on him morning and evening, rub on his body and head, let it dry for 3-5minutes and bathe him with d one on his body but avoided d eye area. After 5days I used once daily for another 5days and that was d end of patches. For one to kno if a child has allergy, u need to see an allergist and not dermatologist. Also u stated ur baby is 6weeks old and sleeps tru out d night after been fed formula. Except I m reading ur message wrongly pls a 6weeks old baby is too small to sleep all tru d night without eating. Formula fed baby's should be fed every 4hrs and EBF baby's should be fed every 3hrs. So pls if u feed ur baby formula pls give ur baby additional formula or breastmilk. in 4hrs even if it's in d middle of d night. Also don't remember if u r d one that talked about measurement of formula. Pls stick to what is written on d can. If ur baby is constipated due to that, kindly change to another formula that won't make ur baby constipated. Cheers Hafsat24: 2 Likes |

The amount of scoops stipulated on the pack is ONLY A GUIDE this is clearly stated on aptamil's website. So there's nothing that says you MUST stick to the quantity or frequency of feeds as stated on the pack. Every baby is different and they've also acknowledged on their site that a baby's feeding habits might not match their guidelines precisely. https://www.aptaclub.co.uk/article/how-much-how-often 2 Likes

Hahahahah as regards d 1st bolded D "cheap brand" like u put it constipates some children too so it doesn't follow that because it contains a lower percentage of composition that's y a child takin it is not constipated. D way u swear by aptamil isn't bad. But my dear some mums no wan use ear hear dat name as well and swears by their own baby's formula. If a child takes a particular formula and is constipated, like my pead will say, change to another formula until u see d one that suits d baby instead of goin against d direction on d tin. But like I always say "to each his own" and I kno no mum would want to hurt her baby thus every mum does what they feel is best. helovesme: 6 Likes |

Nita2013: I'm sure the other mothers that told the lady (even before I posted) to reduce the scoops of formula as they also think that's what's responsible for the constipation are not feeding their babies with aptamil so this isn't "an aptamil is the best" debate. 2 Likes |

Nita2013: OK then..I was worried about the patches but I'll keep calm and try what you've suggested.. The sleeping all through the night is from like 11/12am till 6am..I usually mk sure he's very full before sleeping..after the formula I breast feed him before he sleeps totally..does that mean I should wake him to feed in between? Thanks much for the advice |

helovesme: IMO,i think it's ideal to follow the manufacturers instructions as to how many scoops per ounce of water, too little powdered infant formula may not provide your baby with enough nourishment,my advice is to loosely fill the scoop with formula and level it off with the leveller provided, and if baby is still constipated try other brands,am sure one is sure to settle with his tiny tummy. 2 Likes |

proudmom38: Sigh. Una still dey on this matter Please. It's getting boring. I'm NOT the first or the only mother that told the lady in question to reduce the scoop of formula she's giving her baby so biko free me. To each their own. Feed your child whatever pleases you. I find it amusing that you are concerned with my advice of "going one scoop less" but you see nothing wrong in feeding a baby or "augmenting" with ogi to "fill" up the child's stomach That said, I use aptamil for my baby. I know nothing about your cow and gate Biko. I'm still on the "first infant milk" and there's NOTHING like that on the pack. The only thing on the pack is "ADDING TOO MANY OR TOO FEW SCOOPS IS HARMFUL". if aptamil tells me to put 7 scoops which leaves my baby constipated and I decide to go with 6 scoops - THAT IS MY CHOICE and I have a healthy and happy baby. That's all that matters to me. Going one scoop less is NOT "too few scoops" in my book. Please do whatever works for you Biko. We on combination feeding (where sometimes our babies take minimum 4 bottles of formula in a day) know what works best for us. 5 Likes |

proudmom38: Yeah. Yeah. Your post reeked of sarcasm. One reading your post would think you've been feeding your baby formula. You could have waited to introduce your baby to formula, feed him the recommended scoop to see its effects on him and then decide if I and the other mums are wrong. I won't expect your baby to be constipated anyway whether you give him the recommended scoops or more because he's passed the 6 months mark and he can enjoy a varied diet unlike mum's with babies younger than 6 months feeding on milk and nothing else. 5 Likes |

helovesme: @helovesme, pls take it easy...am sure no one is trying to attack you... As per formula measurement, it is advisable to to go with the direction on the can of formula except, otherwise stated. From what you said about Aptamil, there is the option to reduce or increase a lil, this is not so for other formulas. Not giving enough scoops can cause malnutrition and giving too much can cause constipation. That said, a mother's instinct can't be toyed with... Observation is the key, as long as baby is gaining weight and producing a good number of wets and dirty...increase/decrease scoops, but be OBSERVANT!!! Every mum wants the best for their kids, scratch that, most mums not every. The cheaper brand is not necessarily better than the high end ones. How about if I told u, if you formula feed the right proportion of formula, you don't need to give baby water till 6 months?? Yes that's a fact. My sis has twins also n was on combination feeding, more of formula than BM tho, babies didn't take water till 6 months and never had constipation for a day. Cheers Madame! 3 Likes |
