Slight derail: been a busy 2 weeks since we got back. A huge shout out to the SADC military brotherhood: - In Mozambique, Col. da Cunha for inviting us to ride with his military convoy to the Malawi border because of Renamo bandits in his AO; - In Malawi, Capt. Chipembere who hosted us at the Officers' Retreat on Lake Malawi when our lodge lost our booking and it looked like we might have to camp overnight in a downpour; - In Tanzania, Maj. Nkhoma for ensuring our bikes made it to the cargo plane, a week after our departure. NEXT (subject to change): Cape Town - Namibia - Angola - DRC - Zambia - Zimbabwe - Botswana - Pretoria 10 Likes 2 Shares

ViceAdmiral: Kind of Kenyan and other nations' AMISOM men needed now to find and eliminate the top tactical field commanders and motivational leadership of El Shabbab. Notice important things the SF leader explained. 1. Maximum age for these SF men is 37 years of age, old men not allowed, get old and get out of service, your experience does not matter, your body organs and blood is too old to do high tempo high stamina SF operations. 2. War all over the world has now changed, moved from conventional to irregular/assymetric, and moved again to terrorism/criminality, we mow have 3 types. This is what I have been saying, there is a need for anti-terrorism SF training for CT-COIN SF men, its a different skill and experience from traditional army SF who don't have special depth knowledge of Islamic terrorism. When you tell people truths on this forum, they keep arguing with you from a blind point of view. Fighting M23 rebels is totally different from fighting El Shabbab Islamic terrorists, the enemy philosilophy and modus operandi are very different, so the tactics must be different, and training must be different. NA has about 5,000 army SF, but is building another and a brand new 5,000 troop anti-terrorism SF. Way to go for AU and UN. Meanwhile, check out Tunisian SF guy's pouches loaded like an armoury as their country becomes the new target of African terrorism...

MikeCZAR: When making these trips, you need to liaise with the bikers association of the countries you propose to visit. Biking culture right here in Nigeria is huge, with proper awareness, a trip from cape-town - Lagos would be very successful. Although he also needs to take into account costs, logistical support and mental strength. |

ISWAP/BH sources said they today employed RPG-7s & a few 9K11 Malyutka (AT-3 Sagger) anti- tank missiles on Nigerian Aircrafts today. #BokoHaram sources also said a Sudanese commander was sunday Martyred in fightings with Nigerian Forces. Name&pic not given Fightings #BokoHaram in the Mts has been far tougher than expected. Casualties risen as NA battle to clear well-defended caves However two of the best units of the Nigerian Army are slowly and covertly clearing tunnels and dugout rooms |

agaugust: 1. Average age in Delta is 32 - why limit men to 4 years service after millions invested in training 2. 4G warfare has existed for 26 years now, and its COIN element is no different from COIN in the past. The winning stratergy as shown by the Russians, Algerians and most reently Gen Petraeus - take, build, hold. I would really appreciate it if you could outline for this thread how Islamic COIN is so vastly different from other COIN. 1 Like

Patchesagain: terrorism, Militancy and insurgency Terrorism does not attempt to challenge government forces directly, but acts to change perceptions as to the effectiveness or legitimacy of the government itself. This is done by ensuring the widest possible knowledge of the acts of terrorist violence among the target audience. Rarely will terrorists attempt to "control" terrain, as it ties them to identifiable locations and reduces their mobility and security. Terrorists as a rule avoid direct confrontations with government forces. A guerilla force may have something to gain from a clash with a government combat force, such as proving that they can effectively challenge the military effectiveness of the government. A terrorist group has nothing to gain from such a clash. This is not to say that they do not target military or security forces, but that they will not engage in anything resembling a "fair fight", or even a "fight" at all. Terrorists use methods that neutralize the strengths of conventional forces. Bombings and mortar attacks on civilian targets where military or security personnel spend off-duty time, ambushes of undefended convoys, and assassinations of poorly protected individuals are common tactics.
After much reading I realized, A terror group like Alshabaab as is currently is not the same as ISIS in Syria, they both use terror tactics but mode of operation is different, which makes dealing with the two having to employ different tacticts |

Henry240: No hiding behind rank: on dirt roads we took turns on scouting and tumbling. 2 goats darted across the road and I ate mud! Our first goal is completing SADC and then look further afield. Kenya Denmark Maritime Agreement The Maritime Cooperation between the Parties will be implemented primarily to achieve the following initial objectives: 1. Support feasibility study of an Integrated Maritime Surveillance System for Kenya. 2. Support implementation of some aspects of the Integrated Maritime System recommended from the feasibility study and provides other appropriate technical assistance. 3. Support the conduct of operational training to consolidate MDA capability. 4. Support the running costs of the Danish Liaison Officer (DLO) for Kenya Navy.
