agaugust:Well i don't know about all that, but removing the rubber duck and the emergency boat, you could easily fit 4 ASMs. Although i don't see any space for SAMs, this comes all comes back to the "fitted for but not with" issue. 2 Likes

jln115: I wasn't referring to Nigeria's Corvettes per say, hence my use of pennants in my description. However Nigeria's Corvettes are much larger than the average Type056. Bangladeshi Corvettes are much smaller and they pack a significant punch. |

MikeCZAR: Go watch 10th to 20th seconds time point on the Chinese promo video of P18N and see the oil spill control tanks, position called amidships if you dont know marine tech. Thats where the Type 056 AShM are installed. P18N now named NNS Centenary is modular and convertible from gun OPV to missile light frigate/corvette. Ask questions when you dont know things, dont be ashamed to ask, I won't laugh at you for asking to be taught what is beyond your level of knowledge, I am your friend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuUeO0NhMhg 2 Likes |

agaugust: Having one of anything is a bad idea. Because if you divide a ships life it is - 1 third operational - 1 third in training - 1 third in maintenance That means it will be non-operational more than operational. Plus, Song class are extremely maintenance heavy... even Thailand (who have a carrier) decided that they could not operate the sub. It would be best to continue with the corvetts, until you have 4 and then start with frigates, minimum number 3. 3 is the magic number for ships... because it means you allways have one at sea, one training/on standby and one in maintenance. Thus, you met operational, training and upkeep simultaneously. It also means you can get away with having only 2 full crews and one skeleton crew. 2 Likes

agaugust: 1- $80 million for such an upgrade for only 15 years seems like a waste of money to me. I say we instead go for 3 new Corvettes (lionel4power sorry), the same size as our P18N class 2- I'm not a fan of submarines for the Nigerian Navy at this point. We need to work on and feel our strategic gaps. Instead let us build our ASW component, while we wait for fleet recapitalization to be completed, then we can add 3 submarines. 3 - I agree with the rest. * Refit for the Aradu would commence soon, every other ship planned for has been completed and they are back at sea * Point II(II), are you referring to the orders Xnurr44 talked about late last year? *Point 6, the Navy already flies over 10 Helicopters ( 6 A109, 4 Bells and atleast 1 AW139). Additional AW139s should be the ideal purchase or AgustaWestland Lynx. |

patches689: Exactly! Very impressive fleet they have. I mean for a country most people haven't even heard of, they certainly know how to bite if threatened. I was surprised at their fleet. I love their locally built OPVs, and they have 5 of these in service. (Photo attached)

Henry240:Although I agree somewhat, I still feel if you guys have the funds you should definitely consider acquiring at least 3 subs, they are a massive force multiplier. I don't know much about Nigerian waters, but our waters are absolutely perfect for Diesel subs, just ask NATO!! |
