4xit:no mind d useless egbas king. He is not even egbas king but ake king. Egbas have four provinces abi na domains. Ake, igbeyin, owu and I can't remember. Egbas was founded in 18century.how come he rates himself above the great ijebus whose action shaped Yoruba land. And before the slaveraiders white bastard came to our land, Yoruba land as we know it today was not a nation but kingdoms with their kings, who be the ifes, the people ijebus fought for when the modakekes wanted to finished them off. Abi na wen the owus wanted to annihilate them ni. Someone should make these egba king learn history oh. Their was nothing like Yoruba, it was the hausas that used that name as a collective name for all the tribes in southwest then. The okuns of kogi , ekiti of ekiti, the ondos , the ileshas don't recognize or call themselves Yoruba. Even, we ijebus are never Yoruba. Lailai. Make these people go learn history abeg. Even lagos state is not originally a Yoruba land. We entered the area in the 17century.the area was scarcely occupied by awori people and few Benin element. The truth is nobody owns any land. Awa eyan nwa anlo ni. We come we go ni. The whole of North Africa was under the Romans and Greeks before Islamic Arabs took the land to this day. Spain itself gan was once under the Arabs and they almost took over France before they were crushed by chalmagne. 2 Likes |

aribisala0: The home of the Yoruba' s worldwide is Ile-Ife and throne of Oduduwa is what the Ooni is occupying. All the other children have gone out of Ife to resettle and the Aalafin and Oyo empire was the hotbed of warfare and the political headquarters of Yoruba's but cannot take away the Aarole from the Ooni. It is like saying, since the Ibadan warriors succeeded in warfare when Oyo failed, then Ibadan is now the head of Yoruba's . Historically, the was no contest because Oyo empire was respected but the headship was never conceeded as nobody is seriously challenging Ooni the beneficiary of Odua's throne and crown ( Aare). The Ooni still wear the Odua crown till tomorrow. There is no contest. 1 Like 1 Share |

vigasimple: Whether Ooni is occupying Oduduwa's throne can be debated till eternity. Did Oduduwa ever rule Yorubaland? The answer is a big no What I am saying is THERE IS NO HEAD OF YORUBAS . NEVER WAS and NEVER WILL BE. In fact there was no such thing as YORUBAS as a people till the white man created it. Rather there was EkitiOyo Ijebu etc They were separate nations and the were NEVER subordinate to Ooni. There is no such thing that is fantasy Britain is NOT the head of America The issue is practical real politics and history. Was Ooni ever a suzerain over any other Yoruba territory? |

aribisala0: You are just trying to be clever by half. Ooni was not suzerain over any territory, true, but there was a head of 'Yorubaland' during the time of the empires, and he goes by the title ALAAFIN OF OYO, He was the suzerain over the Oyo empire to which all other sub 'Yoruba' groups were subject. Be clear on the Ooni and the Alaafin, please. |

Re: Ooni Of Ife Visits Alake Of Egbaland (Photos) by aribisala0(m): 12:25pm On Feb 08, 2016 |
MrPresident1:Not all Yoruba subgroups were subject. That is simply untrue please go and check your facts? Ijebu were Not neither was Eko and many others . In fact large parts of Eastern territory were under Benin control. More importantly they NEVER were called Yoruba before the white man came. Those referred to as Yoruba were Oyos . There was no such thing as Yorubaland. Now let us assume that it was true that That Alaafin controlled ALL Yoruba land at some point . That is true for many other empires in history and when those empires come to an END then that is the END. Nigeria was once part of the British empire but in 1963 we became a republic and the queen ceased to be our head of state. The Pope once was a political leader in Europe and so on. You cannot claim that once upon a time the Oyo ruled anywhere under an empire that that is a relationship for eternity. By definition empires are sustained by FORCE and when that force evaporates so does the empire. The question is what whould have happened if the British did not arrive? Oyo has no other authority over any Yoruba other than force and history tells us that empires came and went. The Ooni may have some sentimental value for some but in history politically and militarily the Oonis were IRRELEVANT |

aribisala0: Read the Bible stories of Jewish History. I cite them as a historical and not a religious reference They too came under control of several empires. That does not mean they are perpetually and for all time under those empires. The key point here is the idea of "Yorubaland" is a myth. Yorubaland is a Nigerian creation |

Btruth: An Oba does not crown another Oba. Staff of authority, ASE, is what an Oba gives. In the case of Lagos, the kingmakers, led by Eletu Odibo are the ones that choose who will wear the crown. The crown itself has its own ritual. The Oba elect must not sit under it until after the Araba has consecrated his head. The presenting of the Royal Crown and sitting it on the prince head is done by a woman, Iya Oba, who is a ranking member of the female cosmic cult, Iyami. The staff that the King carry to represent the Throne is sent from Bini. |

Re: Ooni Of Ife Visits Alake Of Egbaland (Photos) by MrPresident1: 3:39pm On Feb 08, 2016 |
aribisala0: You make a strong point though. But as I pointed out to earlier, some matters are just best left as they are because of extant realities and the political exigencies of the day. Long live 'Yorubaland' |
Re: Ooni Of Ife Visits Alake Of Egbaland (Photos) by aribisala0(m): 3:48pm On Feb 08, 2016 |
MrPresident1:Take your own advice ,there is no king of kings So leave things on that front as they are Let us not rewrite history. There is no extant reality confering supremacy on anyone ,as long as we realize that there is no argument. I am sure Yorubas can find a way to unite without any one Oba claiming to be top dog. |
Re: Ooni Of Ife Visits Alake Of Egbaland (Photos) by aribisala0(m): 3:53pm On Feb 08, 2016 |
OPCNAIRALAND:I did not say "head" out of nowhere I only responded to previous comments so you can scroll through and catch up. There is no political head other that the Federal State and Local governments in Nigeria. If suddenly Nigeria disintegrates Yorubas would not organize themselves politically under any kings YOU define what YOU mean by spiritual head because I do not know what that means in Yoruba tradition |

MrPresident1:It does not rule out the fact no though I fail to see why you are asking me that . Have I suggested we disregard facts? Did you comprehend what I wrote? I suggest you comprehend before you respond because I do not see the relevance of what you have written. There is no Yoruba Commonwealth Organization,YET, if one is to be formed then it will have to be discussed. The Commonwealth is made up of sovereign States . There is no sovereign Yoruba state today. |
