In the meantime Saraki shall bear the ignominious appellation of accused person till his almost certain conviction, when the appellation changes to the even more disgraceful "convict". The man must be ruing the day he chose to lie in his asset/liability declaration form 10 years ago. Maybe it is the nemesis of the depositors of the defunct societe general bank and kwara people whose money he embezzled in billions that has caught up with him.

14 years is quite a lot.

One of the things he must do to avoid such lengthy sentence is:

Resign his present position in the house and seat in the Senate.

Ask for clemency on the basis of the above.

Make a plea of oversight in feeling out his forms.

Admit the act can be construed as fraudulent but not in his nature.

Otherwise, this might end up even more messy for him.
have we all forgotten Nigeria judiciary has a track record of injustice with d rich always walking out free?

Saraki knows quite well he would be found guilty as charged, thats why he fought so hard to quash the charges.now that the chicken has come home to roast,he's begging for soft landing but unfortunately for him,he didn't follow the path of reasoning when it mattered instead,he was busy dancing shoki and dare his 'enemies' to go and die.these people are still around and they will see to it that Saraki is sent to jail and his political ambitions killed for live.like an adage, not all battles is your battles, you choose your battles carefully.I can only pity him cos this is clearly the end of his political career.

Back up the above with facts. Where and when was he convicted and sanctioned as claimed?

I think this case will continue to be adjourned untill Buhari finishes his tenure. It's simply a way to hold the Senate President to continue doing the will of the president.if he conforms to their acts,he will be set free and if otherwise, trust me he would go down.

Hasty climbers usually suffer sudden falls. Saraki is a criminal by nature.
He hid himself in the NA car park for hours, delibrately falsified the senate rules just to become the senate president.
Gosh.

the dwarfish el rufai was actually given a life ban from holding public office

Nigeria: Senate Panel Wants El-Rufai Banned From Public Office

The Joint Senate Committees on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Housing, which investigated the administration of the territory between 1999 and 2007, have recommended that former FCT Minister Nasir el-Rufai be banned from holding public office now and in future.

The committee said in its interim report, laid on the table of the Senate yesterday by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Abubakar Danso Sodangi, that "Mallam Nasir el-Rufai is not a fit and proper person to hold public office in a democratic set up."

14 years is a lot for destroying entire lives of hundreds of millions INCLUDING UNBORN GENERATIONS through his actions?!

14 years is a lot for betraying those whom he promised to serve but ended up turning into his slaves and serfs instead?!

He should just be allowed to go home to his stolen luxuries once he "Resigns, seeks clemency, pleads and claims he's not a natural born criminal"?! What is a "criminal nature" to you then if Mr.Saraki doesn't fit that profile? Have you ever heard of a criminal admitting that crime is in his blood stream?

I understand most of you are born into an environment where it's ok to commit huge crimes capable of destroying Nations and expecting to walk away without consequences, but that's not how the real world works. That's why your country, despite its huge wealth, is still severely backwards. When you commit a crime, expect to get punished. And if you're a Government officer, charged with the welfare of the State and it's inhabitants expect to have your sentence quadrupled.

Mr. Saraki should head to court and face the music he insisted he wanted to dance to due to his thieving fingers.

Believe me I want justice to be served as much as any sane person. Yet, I understand the peculiarity of the Nigerian state.

14 years jail time would be unheralded for a serving officer of the three arms.

As with the nature of Nigeria, all manner of political solutions would be sought. The big question is would they suffice?

For the tribunal, there's the danger of tampering with the evidence (exhibits), discrediting witnesses, and creating doubts within the minds of the bench...cases aren't always straight forward and there's often a twist in the tale.

Morality has always been in the deficit in the corridors of power in Nigeria and one must be cognisant of this.

A plea bargain would be made in my own opinion. Quite vexing but also very likely.

We may be witnessing the end of Saraki's Political career. Yet, the penalty might be less than required or deserved.
