Reading with your eyes close is not considered reading, it is called imagining, Lagos State is a city, as a city in Nigeria it has the largest land mass compared to any other city in the country.
Lagos state or city or whatever you want to call it and yobe which one deserves more infrastructure according to the heading of this thread and op concern about distribution of infrastructure?

Your excuse that it was built in 1896 by the British is a flawed logic in that the British then were the equivalent of the present day FG; Nigeria was their colony and they used our wealth as a country to carry out those projects.

Which wealth? There was no oil back then! And I can't recollect the East having an agricultural development to generate such funds to build ports in Lagos.

Nigeria was created in 1914 . H The Colony of Lagos existed separately. So your logic is the flawed one. How could they have used your wealth when they had not created Nigeria YET

The British kept good records study them. Lagos was a net contributor to the British empire .Why did they abandon Calabar?

Palm Oil, Cassava and Yam were major cash crops for the SE region then and I meant the contributions from every region of the country were apparently used to build the ports not just the SE as you want to make it sound like.
My point exactly is that the British didn't build those ports with their own funds but from the collective effort of the whole country which they bossed over as the central government.

Any documentary evidence with a link to this, I would like to read up on the financial contribution of the protectorates in 1896 in building the Lagos ports.

According to Wikipedia it is 29 385 square kilometres

and Nigeria is 923 768 square kilometres

i.e the SE is 3.1% of the land mass of Nigeria

To put it in further perspective

Cross River State is 20 000 sq Km

Kwars State is 36 000 sq km
Niger State is 76000 Sq km

Oyo State is 28 454 Sq km

It is important to have this sense of perspective when people start agitating for projects to their zones
The is a very tiny place and is less four 4 percent of Nigeria but want an equal share of projects with zones that are 10 times their size. This is wicked and this attitude should change
How about allowing each zone exploiting its resources and using it to develop at their own pace?. Lets agree, Kwara and Niger state are 36 and 76 respectively, and SE is 29385sqkms. Is that why you parasitically clinge unto ONE NIGERIA,because you want to take the resources from SE to feed the barren north?. If they are smaller in your imagination,to be developed by Nigeria, why not allow them use their resources and develop at their own pace?. BTW, it's only in Nigeria you hear useless logics. All around the world, developmental projects are channeled where they are most needed. And not based on the geographical size.

Nigeria was a separate colony then, I agree, but it is also clear that they were in charge of the other separate entities that make up the present day Nigeria and there will be likelihood that revenues accrued from one entity can be used to develop another just as banks have different branches were profit from one branch can be used for projects in another.

To die this issue, you have to provide the evidences of finances used by the British for this port.

There was no country Nigeria in 1896 The Colony of Lagos existed separately

More importantly the separate Colonies had separe financial reports they are online. They show revenues expenditures and borrowing and how different projects were funded. They show how it is that in the 1890s Lagos had street lights and telephones . Why?

https://www.nairaland.com/2306559/non-indigenes-lagos-must-respect-hosts/12

Because it was a very lucrative outpost.

There are also separate reports for the East and I actuall recall debating them on Nairaland I believe it was with Eziachi or someone like that.

Rather than make wild ignorant guesses and assumptions arm yourself with facts and truth.

Lagos was separate from Oil Rivers Colony with a DIFFERENT individual as GOVERNOR

I have already in the link grin open it and stop talking rubbish Nigeria was NOT a separate Colony. IT DID NOT EXIST!! There was an Oil Rivers protectorate Later this expanded to the so called SOUTHERN PROTECTORATE in 1900 and LAGOS was added in 1906. When Lagos was added the Capital shifted to Lagos . It had a Governor and it had its own Financial reports they are ONLINE and even on Nairaland educate

It is important to clarify terminology, LAGOS referred to the Colony and Protectoctorate of Lagos and the Hinterland essentially WESTERN NIGERIA while prior to amalgamation the Southern Nigeria was The East with Calabar as its capital

Do not take my word for it this is evidence

Israel is 20-27000 km²
Igboland is roughly 43200 km²
If Israel with roughly the size of Igboland is able to be a regional power, Igboland equally has the potentials of being a continental power...after all in 1967, Eastern Nigeria was the fastest growing regional economy in the world
As for the OP,keep up the good work kos your likes strengthen my belief in Nigeria's dissolution grin

On Lagos and it's growth.

It's a historical fact that Lagos holds its mega city status and all it has today to the firstly the British who exploited the rest of the better south to build up Lagos, and later the FG that continued in the same tradition of exploiting the better south to continue building Lagos, God's will Akpabio raised this point when he queried why rehabilitation and rapid reconstruction in the early 70's took place in Lagos, when the actual war and devastation happened in the better South, even Saro Wiwa queried this Lagos exploitation of the better south, before his death.

We saw this continual exploitation of the better South to build up Lagos by the FG in the recently released budget that saw Lagos and SW receiving the major attention and lion share.

The beginning of SW and indeed Lagos exploitation of the better south was well captured by Obiagu1, in this thread:https://www.nairaland.com/1019602/dont-blame-1914-amalgamation-rather/2

Pay attention to Obiagu1 conversation with PhysicsQED in that thread.

Lagos owe's it's greatness to Nigeria and wouldn't be any better than Abidjan, Lome, Conakry, Accra, and other coastal West African cities without Nigeria, little wonder peeps develop tachycardia at the mention of Nigeria dissolution.

NB: At the era of discourse, SW. was not economically viable and contributed next to nothing to the British, seeing as the region had been ravaged by a bitter civil war.

So Where exactly was the money the British used to build Lagos coming from? grin

I don't think landmass alone should be the basis of creating states or distributing wealth.Population also matters and needs. However, as long as the system of sharing wealth is centralized, there will continue to be problems in Nigeria. Regionalism is the way forward on which each region will exploit its resources, pay taxes to Abuja maybe at like 30% and provide for the needs of all its citizens.
I also honestly believe Igboland extend beyond if their kinsmen elsewhere agree to be in the same region, it may be about 35,000square kilometers.
Why can't Igbo have their country? Of course they can but with a population over 25million, the congestion will be awesome
