OP, are you complaining about the food, drink, where you were made to sit, inability to hob-nob with dignitaries or missing out on the book? I think the latter should matter most. Now, bug him on twitter to have yours delivered to your department (the 2 departments) angry angry

Acidosis:
OP, you're a silly ediot with no iota of sense. Ben invited you folks over all other options, and you're here talking crap!

$illy Unilag student, you wan rub shoulders with Senators on top your cheap akara school fees.

Where are YABATECH students? Why are they not complaining? How about mass comm students from LASU? Again, the senator invited you over all other students in Lagos, you should be grateful!

You're a fcking mass comm student! Your job is to look and observe! Have you ever seen a journalist sitting and dining with Mr President? Have you ever seen a Photographer or photojournalist preaching on the stage?

F00ls everywhere; empty proud ediot from one of the most useless universities in the world.

I just hate it when these boys and girls from that school feels they are above every other person in the world. Why should you be given same treatment with Senators? Just give me one reason? Because you hail from unilag?

You're a fcking Nigerian student like every other person in Nigeria, be grateful that he invited you over LASU students and those from UNILAG, all in the same Lagos state.

smh at your "yabatech" reference, graduated from there and had to waste time converting to bsc because of the discrimination.
all I'm saying is they would rather invite university students all the way from sokoto than nearby yabatech.

The common sense boss have responded. Although most of the comments here were based on political sentiments, MR BEN, has shown his sagacity by this response. Like it or not, he is a good leader and a presidential material.

your points are understood but few things to note:

1. If they were expected to be the social commenters at the event, that should have been expressly stated and understood by all parties involved. Besides, I dont think that's how these things work.

2. Why would their job chances be threatened simply because they voiced concerns? Be careful of such statements. If they dont work in their field, then they should be able to work in another field.

3. I dont know about the powerful contacts factor. A celebrity/VIP's time is not random like that although perhaps it might be occasionally but I seriously doubt it.

4. Ben Bruce can throw another party for the general public to celebrate with him.

5. Nigerians do not take class mixing lightly.

6. In any case, the organizers are the ones to be contacted over this.

my opinion.

Glad it's your opinion but I beg to differ.

1. They do not NEED to be told to do the needful. If they are TRULY information based STUDENTS then where was there instinctive initiative and drive? Telling them CLEARLY to report the event would have made their report SOCIALLY UNAUTHENTIC.

2. The OP put his job chances at stake when he naively took to the social media to ATTACK and call for MASS HATE against a man that gave him an opportunity which he never EARNED. (4 out of 5 employers are likely to checkout your social online behavior prior to giving you a job). And I assume someone like you won't want someone like op in your company - unless he changes his attitude.

3. And who says that a smart communication student cannot sieze that rare opportunity to make a lasting impression on, say, one of the VIPs?

4. Of course, I'm talking about Ben finding time to party with this particular group of students if they had been smart enough to help him promote his book instead of LEECHING for a royal treatment with ZERO value adding initiative.

5. You sure do not expect a student body to sit around the same table with senators and other VIPs in that kind of event, do you? Besides, to me, the sitting arrangement was very normal it's just wrong thinking that's giving it negative interpretation.

Senator Ben Murray Bruce turned 60 yesterday, he took the opportunity to launch his book "The Common Sense Revolution" but it's sad to see that the event in its totality portrays the average Nigerian Politician.

I am Abidemi Adesokan, A concerned Nigerian Student who believes there is hope for Nigeria, but Bruce isn't just that guy.

Ben Bruce is currently replying you on twitter.

Didn't see anything about that take away pack and teem...

Inviting you doesn't mean you pack yourselves like sardine and expect who will serve you like the kings and queens you are. Be grateful you were there first as a student, everything has time, if you wait for your own time it will come. Finish your studies and become your own boss too. You also will be celebrated. By then you will start making your own #commonsense#. Learn to be grateful for little things.

@Paschu...it is very unfortunate what this country is turning into...social media in a way has made our student/prospective applicants to forget some basic things about life.

I want to believe, aside from feeling pained, that some, if not all of these students didn't go out there with good intentions. Because, I can not understand why Silverbird company will invite you to an event, where their logistics wasn't as you expected and you refused to channel your grievances to them through your student Rep. Rather, you set out to spoil someone's day, and when the person couldn't respond immediately, you went to social media with slanderous statements...

You now become bold enough to append your name as the writer(it is very wrong)...

Our alliance to political parties have increased our inability to apply reasoning on issues...#leadersoftomorrow #takingcharge not #supportingfoolishly

He's just capitalising on his media experience and the credulity of the ignorance and penurious Nigerians to blazon his political ambition. He's trying to position himself to be next Bayelsa governor.

quite pathetic.

and if he didnt invite you, you would say he despise the student.

they sent you guys up for you to see all that happened.

instead to aspire to do greater things as a masscomm student you are casting aspersion and painting him on the bad light..

As at the time I got here 98 people liked this post; another reason Donald Trump is winning. We keep having education yet have refused to be free of primordial mentality.

Your points are totally off what the students are trying to project. You have appointed yourself the spokeman for the man in question. Tomorrow the same Ben Murray Bruce will take a truck load of his book to these aggrieved students, treat them nicely and take selfies with them - nobody will care about your body-guard role.

Ben Murray Bruce since becoming a house-hold name has always appeared to be an elitist until he won election as a Senator. He is outspoken and people are matching his actions with his volume of rhetoric - this is exactly what the students are demanding of him and trust him he will get back to them because he is up to something.

Hello Sir, I really feel terrible about your experience. But reason again, like you said, the lady from STV said instructions where for those on the ground floor to be served, I presume first probably before going up. Or do you want to tell he that they wanted to take their "palm oil rice" back home - to do what?
You said the caterer used was hired by the senator's wife (how did you get this privilege info?)

Yeah, Don Dee may be right, as all politicians will always do things in a political way...so, where did the man actually direct the organizers to treat students badly

All these wailing wailers should keep quiet abeg. How many other dignitaries would organise an event and allow you to be 100 feet around the venue let alone grant you access into the venue and give you refreshment.

Sigh!

Lack of intelligence tells on you sir.
If you do not understand the reason why the students see this as a despicable act, then I guess you never went through the University (and even if you did, you refused to gather the knowledge you were meant gather).

And btw, for your information, you have successfully painted Sen. Ben Murray Bruce in a worse light than these poor students have.

Go and learn how to be more creative instead of just looking for cheap publicity with your #NotSoCommonSense post.
I agree that invited guests shud be treated as invited guests.
But u know how unreasonable students can be, especially with their bandwagon effect t. I am sure they abused the invitation by packing the whole class to the event instead of selecting few representatives. Everyone wants a chance to meet and socialize with the great Ben Bruce, and they eventually Lost decorum. Even u as a host will be overwhelmed if u expect 10 students and u got 200.
So I might not be too quick to blame the senator for this shortcoming. I work with students and I know just how stupid even the most enlightened among them could become.
