it's easy 4 them aliens 2 get away wt this kind of behaviour cos we nigerians re a divided lot. I am not implying we re all cuddle up & kiss but we have 2 make sure rule of law is upheld no matter who is involved. when we respect each other regardless of differing opinion, tribe or religion, the foreigners would follow suit |

My condolences, the proper thing would have been to inform him of the wedding, before leaving, the fact that a colleague told you he wont approve is wrong, you should have informed him first. Whats the point in begging to be let in the office premises when you left without permission, theres no point in bringing the matter to the cops cos , you left without permi. Its better to quit the 30k job than spend 50k in the courts. 2 Likes |

Nigerians feel so inferior whenever they meet fair skin foreigners. The inferiority complex is so deep. Lebanese are not white (most clueless Nigerians think they're), they're africans who happened to be brown. They're the same as our half-castes. Nigerians should demand respect from foreigners. What this st*upid Lebanese did here, they won't tolerate it in their own country. Church-rat lebanese id*iots who couldn't make it in their country, come to Nigeria and become rich overnight on the backs of suffering Nigerians they use and abuse! 1 Like |

On no account or circumstance should any person be it colleague or boss (either Native or Foreigner) slap another. Assault is an unlawful act irrespective of where it takes place. Remember dealing with a Chinese man who slapped his driver a couple of years back. According to the driver, his boss had this nocturnal habit of patronising Chinese prostitutes. He had dozed off in the car around 2 am while waiting for his boss. The boss came out, tapped him for them to go and in the process of trying to pull out the car from the very tight park, he mistakenly brushed one of the car's side mirror against another car which got the mirror broken. The boss angered by this, slapped him which was of course, one amongst several other slaps he had received from him in the course of working for him. He (Chinese) was made to do a letter of apology/undertaking and as well, pay the sum of #2,000,000 as compensation/damages after much negotiation and pleas. My guy after receiving the money (after fees have been deducted ), quit his job and relocated to his home state to start a new life. 2 Likes |

Charlieubochi: you are the one who is not very smart.... your manager tells you that he cannot grant you the day off on such a short notice, and that you have to take the issue with the MD, and YOU decided not to listen to your manager and instead "disappear". how difficult is this to understand?! who granted you the right to not come to work? it sure wasnt your workshop manager. How can you say anybody created by God deserves to be beaten just because he didn't come to work on Saturday which isn't even compulsory because it's calculated as overtime. The people accusing me have zero self esteem and don't understand basic human rights. whether it is calculated as overtime or not is irrelevant here. if your contract stipulates that you have to work on saturdays, then thats it. blame only yourself for signing that contract. why do you change your story as you go along? wasnt it you who wrote the following: I am a BSc degree holder in accounting and I am being paid #30,000 plus I have to work on Saturdays too. 2 Likes |

Charlieubochi: Our Igbo driver did something like that to our boss a Romanian which got the expatriate arrested. That Igbo man even lied to the police and the white man had no defence. He lied to the police that our boss called him "black monkey" which we knew wasnt true. He is over 60 and the oldest serving driver but wanted to drive the biggest car in the office (Toyota prado) which is only used for site/interstate trips while he has been driving a corolla within city for meetings and shopping. The drivers driving the big cars make more money as they get access to spending more on their cars such as fuel, repairs, hotels and travel allowance. Fighting for the new prado led to the exchange which he threatened report of descrimination. Next hr police showed up with trumped up charges demanding almost 500k in settlement and severance pay. He was paid and we never heard from him. We almost took the same expatriate to the cops last year, he begged when my temper reached the roof. |
Kidman96, You took those words out of my mouth! He was even scared to meet the MD, for what exactly?! Whatever happened to 'official' way of requesting for days off! Some years ago, while I was taking my SIWES, I carefully, unregrettably and singlehandedly dealt with two of these guys at Nichemtex (NICHEM WAX) and guess what? I was not asked to leave but instead so many things changed with immediate effect. The staff started speaking up! THE STRENGHT OF YOUR OPPRESSOR LIES IN YOUR WEAKNESS! Nigerians are timid, scared, afraid, too religious (that they leave everything for God), hypocritical, sentimental, crazy,.... Infact, Fela Anikulapo has said it all.[/quote No I don't quite agree with your statement abt Nig, the thing is that both the judicial system, police and the likes are unreliable thats why people tend to leave things in Gods hand. |
well first of all even though you are my country man, i still will tell you the truth. If you know how people behave, then you know how to deal with them. the way you conduct and carry yourself anywhere you are is how you will be treated. you erred by not making your request for leave absolutely official. You told your work shop manager about it and he advised you to speak with your boss. you should have done so and all this would not be happening. secondly you goofed when you eventually resumed office. you should not have begged him. there is a difference between apologizing and begging. i am sure you your countenance and disposition portrayed fear and that you were absolutely sorry and scared of losing your job, which gave you away. you don't show fear to such people, you show strength, confidence yet remorse. this would have made him think twice before assaulting. but because he saw you apologizing probably almost kneeling he knew you were scared of losing your job and scared of him too as your boss so he attacked you. i am not saying all this to make you see me as a bigger man, i just want you to know when dealing with a bully you don't show fear. in any case i commend your patience and hope you deal with him severely because it is becoming routine for these Indians and Lebanese who are way below us Nigerian.[/LG p Talking from both side of the mouth. Op, did well. all through. Worst they could do was sack him. |
Re: How I Was Assaulted By My Lebanese Boss Yesterday Morning by bigfrancis21: 2:19pm On Feb 24, 2016 |
Charlieubochi: First, good job on taking action to stop employee assault in the workplace. Regardless of one's nationality, employee assault should not be tolerated. Even Nigerian employers maltreat their own employees daily. Someone said you should not have begged, well it is the automatic Nigerian way of apologizing or showing remorse, as you would if your boss had been a Nigerian boss, and expressing remorse varies from country to country. Americans show their own remorse in a different way. Labour laws in Nigeria are quite weak and even if there are laws, they are rarely ever enforced. These laws need to be instituted to prevent employee assault in both national and international companies. The argument that foreign companies 'contribute' to the economy, as one poster said, and should be given 'leeway' of any sense does not make sense. In addition, Nigerians have been used to 'suffering and smiling' or being abused all their lives and letting it go that they barely even know their rights or when they are being abused that foreigners take it for 'cowardice' or as room to abuse them since they would not 'report' or 'react' anyway. 1 Like 1 Share |

Why are some fake people that are lilly-livered but trying to hide it stylishly blaming the OP? Some are saying he shouldn't gave gone to the wedding and come work on Saturday? OP had right as a humanbeing not to come to work on Saturday? The worst his stupid employer could to was sack him, and nothing more. OP tried not to slap back because if it were me it surely would be bad phyically for me and the MD. Who born monkey? |
