Nice thread, but naijadoctors sabi play solo. That's y this thread is so inactive. Guess it's time we imbibe the fraternal spirit the fraternal spirit of the Asians. I feel very jealous when I see how active those Indian blogs are.
You are so correct. Those indians and pakistanis know how to share news like NTA. This was the subject of a post on a facebook group. Many people want advice, particularly on leaving Nigeria, but don't know how to get it. I'll try and share that post here.

Hello again rugged7,
Pls I wonder if u could help clarify some issues regarding the plab visa....I am planning to apply soon but there is this issue with the financial aspect..unfortunately i am working in osun state at a government hospital and as a lot of people know its been really bad here with salaries, government owing us 5-6 months salaries and also paying us half salaries and to top it all we doctors in the state have been on strike since September and our beloved governor has stopped our salaries since September last yr,now I am thinking of using my dad as my sponsor using his bank statements,my own bank account is in disarray with very inconsistent salaries and of course almost dried up at the moment.
My dad says he'll not have any problem stepping in as my sponsor,he will write a statement and sign saying that he'll be my sponsor..... but I don't know how the ukba will see that-me as a working individual...with a job...why can't I sponsor myself!
And also I checked online that the plab visa is now under the standard visa category but some are still saying its business category, some sites say u need just 3 months bank statements while others say 6 months, also lately people are saying u have to go all the way to the embassy in person for the visa applicationunlike before when u send ur documents!
Hope u can enlighten me on some if not all of this issues, thanks again for ur time.

i'm really sorry to hear about the harsh economic situation for doctors in a country i once loved so dearly.
I am deeply annoyed about how medical personnel are treated in that country.
Unfortunately i can't see anything improving in the near future.
Infact, a couple of medical friends who worked in the oil industry with appreciable pay checks are being disengaged and sacked from oil companies now.
That economy is in free fall, and unfortunately your president is playing tic tac toe with the well being of itz citizens.

I have a friend in Osun state government employ who had the foresight to exit to UK about when those troubles started .
I don't know if the visa methodology has greatly changed of recent.
BUT, i don't see a reason why you can't get your father to sponsor you for PLAB or Clinical attachment visas.
You lucky say u even get person wey ready to help u. If u see how we rugged am that time eh cry...Soaked garri was our best friend grin
People like us had NOBODY.

Like i said, it is extremely difficult for the UKBA to turn down these kinds of request unless there is something gravely wrong.
Include your letter from GMC for the exams with the date. Explain that you are going early to be able to acclimatize and prep for the exams
As far as i know 3 mnths payslip usually is sufficient, but oyibo dey craze, so it is safer to use 6 months payslip.
They won't ask u why ur father is sponsoring u; even if they ask, if u tell them the truth that sun state medical workers are on temporary industrial action; i don't see a problem. They will know anyway because other doctors have probably gone through the same route.

I can't comment whether it is standard of Business category so i will refer u to the UKBA website. or call them and ask.
...Scratch that:
https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor-visa/overview
You can apply for a Standard Visitor visa if you want to visit the UK for business-related activities, eg:
you’re a doctor or dentist and are coming to the UK to take a clinical attachment or observer post
you want to take the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) test or sit the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

When u reach...ur fellow Nigerians will betray u.
Be circumspect
Good luck bros.
Never give up.

Some of us complained about Nigerian being poor at helping other out with the foreign exams and other issues. How about starting the change that we want from here. We can create whatsapp groups from here, with those who have passed USMLE step 1 or 2, or PLAB 1 or 2, mentoring a few others until they cross the same hurdle. The whatsapp model has been used by prospective interns for a few months now to share information regarding adverts & applications, and it has been a big success. I believe it can work here too

Artificial skin is saving thousands of lives of burn victims.
Initial patents developed by a Nigerian in 1981

Patents; Wounded Person's Cells Generate Shield of Skin
By Stacy V. Jones
Published: December 12, 1981

A person suffering from burns or open wounds can be treated with a sheet of living skin grown from his or her own epidermal cells. The method was patented this week for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by a physician and a former graduate student from Nigeria.

Patent 4,304,866 was granted to Dr. Howard Green, a former M.I.T. professor who is now a department chairman at Harvard Medical School, and Olaniyi Kehinde. The process is being tested at a Boston hospital.

The sheet is formed on the surface of a culture vessel in which some of the victim's cells have been grown. It can be detached after application of a special enzyme. The sheet is not rejected by the body, as it might be if created from cells of another person.

Dr. Green has worked on the technique for several years, and has an earlier patent on human skin culture. Pigskin is currently used in treatment of body surface injuries.

I think I'm in a good position to answer sm of your queries.
first I am a local govt doc inEdo state where I have not seen salary alert in 6mo. Also, I am booked for plab2 March 29, 2016.
however, I have applied for visa 2x and have been refused 2x! they just dwelt on my financial status. input money in my account in January at diff times to make up 750k wch is more than my planned expenditure but they went on poking holes at every junction from - no salary evidence in account to "your disposable income is too small to account for what you have on your bank statement" to "I don't see why your sponsor will want to sponsor your trip" to you have no right to appeal.
all these were despite the fact that I submitted my MDCN full reg cert, my PLAB 1 result and plab 2 booking (booked since Jan 5th), my land documents, wedding cert, UK sponsor who sent his bank statement, council tax bills, employment letter, British resident permit etc. they didn't even consider these ones.
Currently confused and depressed cos my money don lost so. I had also booked Salehis course which he has agreed we to postpone to Batch R.
my advise, start putting money into one account weekly so it wld be like extra income, add the No Salary story to your letter of introduction, if you want sm1 to be your sponsor, he shld pay money into your account to show that you have a financial relationship etc. Don't rush your visa application.
my dad is a British citizen, can't even use him cos it further raises suspicions. UKVI are just bastards jare. they have been refusing ppl anyhow recently even at the slightest chance. if you have money, visit another country then return - that boosts your immigration history too.
wish you luck doc!

Join a co-op society, co-op loans are as low as 10-15% for 30months like what we have here 15% for 3mo. you can tk salary loan from first bank at 26% per annum on a decreasing balance but you are a house officer wch means you might be out in d open in a matter of months ie nysc so I doubt if any bank wld want to tk that risk. someone, say a relative who earns 2x what wld be deducted monthly, can tk on ur behalf while you pay him/her the interest and monthly deductions back.

Medicine first, then write West Africa and/National primary into pathology (like I did in 2011) then you can start seeking residency space into the area of pathology you want ie history (my fav), chempath, med MCB, haematology.
another route is to read med lab science, specialise in any of the 4 then do masters in that area. then you can join the johesu train and fight for equality with docs in your field (on a lighter note).
that's to the best of my knowledge, new courses come up everyday. you never know!

@rugged7,
Chief, I was refused with my GMC confirmation email, PLAB 1 result... those ppl can be crazy atimes o. Since when is it a problem to have more than your disposable income in an unemployment jungle like Naija where ppl can work till they drop just to make ends meet sef? I was refused in 24hrs!!!
If would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can beat this visa hurdle cos no salary in sight o, the best i have heard is strike action coming soon. I don't mind emailing you my refusal letter if you guys can also help me study it to find a way around it.
Also, when I applied, PLAB OSCE was under Business Academic (<6mo) category under Standard visitor.
is it true that one can go to the British high commission office to talk to an agent on what I need to do to avoid refusal? The GMC customer care rep suggested that to me today, same thing my old man suggested yesterday. the son of man is just confused jare, Samson videos no lemme watch again. lol.
Thanks in advance.

WoW....

2 times

I have never seen them refuse any doctor booked for an exam before to be frank.

It's surreal...

1. They are beginning to tighten general immigration visa rules. They prefer white europeans to niggers
2. I think they see the downturn in the Nigerian economy as increasing the likelihood of exodus of Nigerians. Your president don come here abuse us finish. The chap don shit for church sha
3. Generally UKBA dey craze sha
4. Are u Sure they don't have any security information or previous negative immigration history on you?

Advice:

i would suggest you see an immigration lawyer ASAP. You can see their agents as well. They will probably refer u to a lawyer. Challenge it in court. I think the uk government pays for the challenge. unless things have changed again.

Frankly, uk is changing itz laws now almost every year

I'm an houseofficer hoping to get into plastic surgery residency in the U.K. I hear it is tough. I want to know how tough it is, like next to impossible or what? so I know how hard I must prepare. Advice from drs who have walked down this path or left 9ja for any surgical residency in the U.K is welcome. I wanna know how to go about it?

Wow! In theory, the answer is yes, but practically, no. Residency posts are few and UK/EU doctors wait endlessly for a chance they will never get. However, if you want a non-training post i.e just work and pack money, then there is always space for you.

Do you have UK/EU citizenship? If yes, then your chances at a residency spot are improved.

So Sorry doc for all this wahala...this is wot I HV been fearing all along-REFUSAL!even with all ur documents intact the ukba will always try n find smithing to jeopardize ur plans.I am also having issues with my work place..we actually on strike since September last year and no alert since then..so I have made up my plan not to use my own account regardless of how much is in there....they will start asking how did I make this money when there's no proof of payslips or salary coming in...they don't want to know if u earn money on the sides.
I feel that's where u might HV made the mistake...u should HV used a sponsor from the start because u are not been paid at work...putting money into ur account will only raise suspicion...and once they refuse u it gets a lot harder to convince them of ur changed status when reapplying.
And the situation of the country isn't making things easier for all of us trying to get out of this shit hole...the country is completely finished and the ukba knows this...so they feel they can play God...disrupt ur plans...do as they feel like at that moment they receive visa applications.
Regardless of ur set back...I feel u should see an immigration lawyer to iron all this out, might cost u sm more cash but I feel that's the only way out for now....or u can wait abit till ur financial status has actually changed before reapplying....but waiting also can be a bad idea cos this Ppl can change their immigration rules at any time....
To sum it all I feel this visa issue is all luck...if u are successful... just know say na God do am!
Good luck with ur plans.

You'd be surprised how difficult it is to get band 7 in all and 7.5 average..

I've seen people write it up to 5 times.

Itz easier for others to pass though...

Hi rugged7.
I really like the way u took time to explain somethings. I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I just passed my plab 2 after 2 attempts and my ielts is over 2 years. The requirement for gmc is 2yrs. Is there any way I can go about this, I'm really scared.
