I think these midget submarines might be a very good assets for Nigerian Navy too. http://www.hisutton.com/New%20Croatian%20midget%20sub%20-%20Drakon%20220.html Or http://www.hisutton.com/News%20-%20Korea%20building%20new%20HDS-400%20midget%20submarine.html Then we can add the Chinese submarine later. |

iblawi: They look like nice nimble assets to start a Submarine fleet with. 5 units and 3 Chinese or German type Submarines at a later time. However, it is unlikely that we would see any Naval submarines anytime soon. They aren't yet a priority. |

agaugust: - Gi-30 CAM GUN - world first and only example of its kind http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product4225.html - Arachnida II WMS used in the Badger 60 is highly advanced, with data-link, inertial navigation, geo-positioning etc. Name an IFV with a similar system. http://www.denellandsystems.co.za/products/artillery - Denel M1 60mm mortar has a 6km range (world first), is breech loading, uses an auto-loader and is also unique in respect of elevation: from -5º to +70º, which allows it to be employed in a direct fire application. http://army-guide.com/eng/article/article_1135.html Now go ahead and list: - IFV's with BLUFOR trackers - IFV's with flat floor mine protection and the same STANAG level - Hunter-killer capabilities ie: Independant FCS for commander Now, you called me a liar. agaugust: $5 million a vehicle for the most advanced IFV in Africa, that is 70% indigenous, has 30mm frontal protection as standard, class leading mine protection, modular armor kits, data-link intergration, an SPG (since you say its not an IFV) and a tank hunter and is tailor made for our needs is cheap Also, where do you get $5 million from? 1 Like

Please stop loading lies upon lies on this thread, pleeeeaaase stop it Patches !!! |

Oga Henry, i stand corrected if they are. But i had a long look at the pix. My 1st impression was QRF, but there appears to be no unit ?blue badges on the arm The vests are not so common with airforce specops The wooded camouflage are reminiscent of the army spec ops chaps trained in russia The weapons are consistent with Navy SBS and possibly some airforce QRF Or are these new uniforms as per c-i-c instructions? Can u clarify how u came up with the air force conclusion? Henry240: |

patches689: TYPE 041 are fitted with AIP which argument the diesel-electric propulsion system. And am sure S20 can also be fitted with AIP if requested for because of the modular design. China will always give you what you want as long as you have the money. Although am not sure the improved kilo class submarine and type 209 submarines have such. |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by patches689: 12:14pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
iblawi: Is the investment worth it for Nigeria? A couple more Corvettes and maybe a new frigate or two would see allot more service than some subs. IMO, subs are just a cherry on top... a treat you buy yourself when you believe you have everything else you need. They are massively expensive to operate because of all the infrastructure and human expertise you need to build and acquire to operate them... if RSA had not had the experience and infrastructure to carry over from the daphne class submarines there is no way we would have been able to get the Type 209's, Reminder: The Thai Navy (who operate a carrier) assesed the Song Class and concluded that they would not have the resources to operate one. But, if Nigeria was dead-set on getting subs, buying some midgets would be a good way to start on the long road.

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 12:18pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
iblawi: It isn't the cost that's the problem, we can very well afford them. I'm talking priorities. As things stand, Subs aren't a naval priority at this point. Our surface fleet has to be recapitalised. Frigates, Corvettes and FAC. Then we can go for Subs. 1 Frigate 3 Corvettes 6 missile Fast Attack Crafts. This is our current requirement. We need to quit buying patrol ships, the Navy already sails enough of them. We literally have hundreds of patrol vessels, OPVs, MPVs, IPVs, Inshore patrol boats. This should stop. |

Henry240: 1 frigate does not make sense, IMO You need at least 3 to get decent operational levels going (one operational at any one time)
