Re: Is NIPOST Trying To Defraud Him? by UjSizzle(f): 8:01pm On Mar 08, 2016 |
NIPOST ask for handling charges, usually N500 per package. I'm sure this is illegal but na Naija we dey. I'm not sure how EMS handle their business so your pal needs to confirm who he's dealing with. |
Re: Is NIPOST Trying To Defraud Him? by UjSizzle(f): 8:05pm On Mar 08, 2016 |
GodMode:It's not about DHL. The way this thing works, you order on a foreign website, include the delivery address, and they send it to the NIPOST office closest to your location. Someone from NIPOST then calls/texts you to come pick up your package and asks for handling charges (at least N500). There's no DHL deal here. |

berildan:. Luckily for me,I go to NIPOST everyday and they are not trying to defraud him. The truth is yahoo guys receive packages and customs mandated EMS who handles such parcels to keep it for at least a week before handing out the parcel and they are to collect what ever amount they (customs) stamped on the parcel, which EMS sends back to customs, its more like tarrif, hope I cleared ur doubts. 1 Like |

berildan:kindly send me a PM. I've got links to NIPOST. This is sad and rather disgraceful of people who get paid every month for doing nothing, yet all they can do is to mess up with a system people are trying to cleanse |
Re: Is NIPOST Trying To Defraud Him? by abidex0z(m): 8:58pm On Mar 08, 2016 |
this is somehow fishy....I received a package from my fiancee in Australia last week through Nipost...although when the courier man came to my apt in surulere I was not at home,so he left me a receipt to come to their office in order to claim the package so i went to the po in surulere based on the address the package was sent to,afterwards I paid them #500 for handling charges for small package of 1kg....all I know is that Nipost can not ask you to pay into their personal acc,you go to the nearest post office in your city to claim your parcel with the receipt you will be given by the courier man... |

This is an example of defrauding in excellence. Personal account for what. I think the person sending the parcel might have paid for it. Next time hold the person cos he needs panel beating. |

From experience, when someone wants to send you a package from abroad, they have two options. They can use the local post office or use an internal courier like DHL, Fedex, etc. In any case, the sender would be required to to declare the content of package and sometimes the value too. This is to determine if the recipient would have to pay customs duties and sometimes excise duties. I use DHL, they are straightforward. In my experience, usually, if the sender of the parcel uses the local post office in the country of origin, it would end up in the hands of NIPOST. When NIPOST gets the parcel, they pay the duties and claim the equivalent from the recipient. If the recipient does not claim the parcel, NIPOST could destroy it or return it to sender. It is strange that they are asking the sender to pay. It should go into the NIPOST account. Next time, ask the sender to declare the package as GIFT. I dont know if this would work for NIPOST. But I know that it works in other countries. |

Pls is post office reliable and secure to send a parcel to US? |
Re: Is NIPOST Trying To Defraud Him? by berildan(m): 9:49pm On Mar 08, 2016 |
Themaingate:He can't do that yet, because they're still in custody of the items and it's a tricky scenario. The case has been taken up by an official in another NIPOST office who would probe the branch tomorrow. So within 24 hours we'll see if public declaration of their information will be needful or not. Thanks btw. |

I don't think its highly unusual. I remember when Ipad Air first came out, I asked a friend in the UK to line-up and get it for me. After we had agreed on the mutually suitable exchange rate, I gave the money to his family members here as agreed and he duly sent it to me via DHL. He then sent me the tracking number and I was monitoring the package till it reached Lagos. DHL then informed me by mail that the package was intercepted by our Customs & Excise for duties which they had paid on my behalf. They sent me a scanned copy of the payment schedule and I was asked to refund them before my package would be handed over to me in Akure. I duly paid into their official account and i got my package. |

Dear Nairalanders, The aim of this message is to bring ideas, mentors and potential investors/entrepreneurs together with a view to creating jobs, reducing poverty and creating wealth. This has become necessary because we have observed that a lot of people have funds but lacked the right investment idea(s) while others have investment information but no funds. Therefore, we want to bring everyone under one roof basically to share investment information and we believe that new partnerships can also be forged in the process. However, every information or personality should be independently verified before taking any action. Good people, get the ideas rolling in. Mentors are encouraged to volunteer. Let's make Africa great. I will make a new user group so only nairalanders will be apart of. here is my website. create an account and comment so i can add you. waistaa - I have a parcel to collect from NIPOST since January. I was asked to pay close to N30,000 claiming it has to do with Customs duty. No problem, I requested for the bank details to pay and none was provided insisting that I should pay cash to them. So why insist on cash if you know that it is legal. Unfortunately the email addresses on their site does not work and none of the phone numbers are going through. waistaa: |

berildan: IT IS ABNORMAL. Dont pay. They want to swindle you. Tell them you can only pay into NIPOST or CUSTOMS govt account number. A sender has paid all the charges meant for a postal service. This is the norm worldwide. |
