Good morning all. My wife plans to travel with our son around 6th to 8th April to deliver our second child in Texas, US. She would be 35 weeks at that time however, and we understand that some airlines would not allow a pregnant woman as advanced as 35 weeks travel with them. We want a direct flight however. Pls anyone has a suggestion (apart from Delta Airlines, cuz they are pretty pricey)? In addition, a friend advised us she shouldn't fly to Texas directly cuz their immigration guys could be very difficult. Any suggestion on that too? We are doing this for the first time. Thanks a lot in advance |

@TheLeakyTribe I don't know if you have left or not. Please if you have not, kindly make sure you make a police report alongside your husband. If you have, then your husband can make it. If you have any receipt of the purchase, pls hold that. If you do not, get the bdc to issue you one. Then get your bank statement showing the naira transaction. I'm sure you can get that online. There is a number that is supposed to be like a police customer care. I'm not sure who they are but I do know that you can call them after you have made a police report and give details of your case including the area command and they will follow up your case. If you contact the mobile networks, they can locate her phone as well as last dialed numbers and trace her. A relative went through this a few months ago and USD was stolen by her maid and her sisters maid. Both colluded as they were aware that my relative and her sister were embarking on a business trip and had changed quite a large sum. To cut a long story short, they were apprehended by the police after a few days and the funds were recovered. Even her agent can be made to produce her relatives or friends. Pls don't let this go just yet, pursue it to a logical conclusion ASAP. Prompt report and persistent "pressing" of the NPF and you will get results. @girlloom do NOT look at this through the eyes of "he is my relative" The advise to thread carefully is to thread carefully for yourself and your LO and not to put another person's interest first before yours. You and your LO are your priority one. If at any point in the future he is caught on any tax fraud, his entire tax history will be audited and you could be taken as an accomplice. Silence after all means consent. I can only advise you on what I would do if this happened to me. I would call the IRS and I would visit my local social security office. I would tell them that I got my LO's social security number a few days ago and it was already opened and I would like to know if this is a cause for concern especially as regards identity theft. They would advise on the next step. If you want to play safe, you can be silent on the happenings that led to you discovering that it was open. You can say that you were not home when it was delivered and that by the time you saw it, it was already open. However I must state here that if your host did open it, he invaded your privacy. If he did claim taxes for your LO without your consent then he commited a crime. It's that simple. Relative or not. 17 Likes |

girlloom: I know people have been telling you to report to the police or agency so as to deal with him but I disagree. Yes what he did was wrong and disgraceful but you will do more harm than good by getting him arrested and subsequently a criminal record. You will tear your family apart and make a lot of enemies. Have a word with him and make your feeling known without holding back your displeasure about his behaviour and get this resolved amicably 8 Likes 2 Shares |

@Vcole that was just logical and well thought out. Should the poster sacrifice her familly's wellbeing for extended family? I think not. If the poster 'reasons' with the man and he refuses to see reason or continues his devious plans nonetheless what will she then do? Can such a fraudulent person even listen? Biko my dear @poster I advice u to follow vcole's suggestion. Make a general complaint and see where it goes. If the man is guilty, let karma deal with him. You sef hurry and return back to your own home mbok make the man no just imagine say u de owe am. There's this saying, where there's a wrong there's a remedy. If the man decided to defraud the system that's his cross, he should be able to face the consequencies. On my own I completely hate the fact that Nigerians are tagged criminals. I have shouted it from the rooftops before, are we going to leave nigeria to birth in the us for a better opportunity for the itsy bitsy ones and then have the burden of 'the Nigerian stamp' placed on them because we can't make the right/hard choice? 7 Likes |

vcole: I love this advise. I would just report the state which the ssn came (opened and exposed) and feign ignorance. I hope they give you a pin or so that way no one can claim without the pin. Karma will surely do the rest. Some of us didn't have that opportunity. Thieving people. They could have said they couldn't accommodate you instead of stealing from your son. 1 Like |

Dear Friends, Could you please advise? Which is the better to pass and enter Texas, through IAH airport Houston direct, or take 1 stop flight to New Your, then take internal flight to Houston? Your opinion will be helpfully |

Take your original flight and fly a local airline to Texas. That's an option Stephenry: |

@vcole God bless you for that solution. @justwise if she confronts him to resolve it amicably, whether he agrees that he used it or not the reality is that to be certain and safe she will still have to find out from IRS and SSN if her son's SSN is being used and how to block its use by anyone. Such a man's word can't be trusted! A Man who can be so devious as to hide the SSN from her lying it hadn't arrived can do even worse criminal activities. I can understand opening the SSN envelope to spy the number but then hiding the mail altogether? That's a relative that can smile while killing the person quietly. She doesn't have to mention who gave her or the circumstances but one obligation she must do for her son's future is to inform the necessary authorities that it was tampered with. If its already been used to claim tax refund and the authorities feel the need to trace the dubious individual then that's the cross the relative has to carry after all he who can commit the crime should be ready to do the time... I even feel if she must confront the man then it should be as she is leaving cos I doubt that house will even be conducive and safe once she makes that confrontation... Cc @girlloom 2 Likes |

How is my lil African Princess? Emeldamicheals, Congrats babe, the Joy of the Lord will always be in your household... Girlloom Wisdom is profitable to direct, this is not a random stranger off the street, don't just go reporting straight, if he has used it already & he gets a criminal record, it will tear the family apart.... Do a check to know if he has used it already, if he has, register your displeasure & tell him you won't like a repeat , He will grow sense, he knows the repercussions that await Tax Fraudsters..... If he now doesn't desist, go ahead & let hades rain on him.. You've lost free accommodation but you have piece of mind..... na dis kain tinz nor let us collect for awa pikins. 4 Likes 1 Share |

madammamus: Confront him? Yes. Block the SSN if he has started using it? Definitely!. Go straight to the authority without giving him a chance to resolve this? You are going to cause an irreversible damage. I don't know about USA but in the UK the moment you bagged yourself a criminal record you can as well kiss a goodbye to any prospect of getting a job in future. This man hasn't offended this woman before until this moment, so to take drastic action against him as first offender is inconsiderate. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

justwise: My exact sentiments You can't throw away a bath water and the baby together From readin lot of comments a lot of people don't understand how this tax thing works. How many time in a year are taxes filed? Taxes are not filed everyday!!!! Didn't this stuff just happen... I mean she is still in the USA so I don't think the Ssn came more than two weeks ago I sincerely doubt he has used it. He definitely has the intention to, so confront him and establish your displeasure. Give him the chance to do the right thing Threading carefully does not mean you are not putting your LO first My two cents 5 Likes 2 Shares |

justwise:No. Not in the US. Our tax filing season starts in mid January and ends mid Alril. This year's has been on from January 19 and it ends in April 15. So if he wants to use it, he might have used it already and that's just too sad. That said, there is no excusing what he did. Even if he did not use the SSN to claim credits, what he did was absolutely wrong. Social Security Administration is always boldly written on the envelope that brings the card in the mail, so he cannot tell her that he didn't know that it contains the baby's SSN. Then he still went ahead and hid the entire card from her after opening and probably copying the number. Arghhh. How criminal can that be? He didn't think about the criminal implications of that before opening the documents and even hiding it from her? You know what SSN issues can cause someone in America? You gotta experience it before you feel the full weight of it. I still stand by what I said. Call the IRS identity theft hotline. Tell them the envelope was delivered open. No need to mention the person that opened it. Let them put a marker on that SSN and possibly give you a PIN. If he has filed with the SSN this year, fine. Next year if he tries it, his whole refund will be held and he will be told to verify identity with the PIN you were given and since he doesn't know it, that's when the issue will start. If he can't produce it, his whole refund will be held and might prompt an audit and even an investigation. Some Nigerians here are just appalling and I've heard stories of hosts doing that to people. What will the 2K or less claimed from child credit do for you? What? Nonsense!!! 13 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 3 by Nobody: 3:41pm On Mar 20, 2016 |
Well, i still believe confrontation or not she needs to still go to the authorities to do the needful. Like i wrote, she doesnt have to state the circumstances but she definitely has to do her own investigation on the state of her son's SSN. That man is a dubious somebody and I can never trust such a person's word after such an act meaning he shouldn't even be trusted to resolve it on his own... Well looking at it from a "he fell into temptation" point of view, maybe he is actually a really good guy but his finances and tax situation is overwhelming and immediately he saw the SSN mail he couldn't overcome the temptation to open it...most especially as its tax season in the US...and then he also couldn't bring himself to ask her... @girlloom pls do update on how it all turns out. justwise: |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 3 by worry359(m): 3:42pm On Mar 20, 2016 |
justwise: favoredgal: But it is very clear he was up to something, hiding then producing the document! Best to check even with a family member. Ask him straight out "what were you doing" Tell him if there is no answer you will seek one from social security. |
