The same arguement in all major towns and cities that tried to ban Okada but these arguements don't hold water why Okadas should not be banned. Let's try embrace decency for once. Port-Harcourt,Warri to name a few banned Okada successfully from it's metropolis. Lagos can do same.

why people in New york not rendered jobless?. Nigerians like you with low brain just want to remain backward. wake up, this is 2016. EVERYTHING IS NOT EXCUSE.

If it happen, the yellow buses and okoda will be operating on streets, small roads and villages.
Even in world class cities like Beijing, Bangkok, Hong kong, they still use old fashioned transport system like pick-up, tricycle, bike in a civilized manner.

danfos r not d only alternative.
the fishseller and other marktwomen going to d same locality can arrange for pick up delivery cars....it is already done in some places like yaba where u see five to six ppl renting a pick up van to transport their wares to theie abode.

So na only fish sellers dey live for Lagos ?

Maybe I have comprehension issue but I didn't read anything mentioning danfo.
The article only discussed about okadas.
I was going through the comments and I was wondering if we read the same article.
In any case, the ban on okada is long overdue. They are reckless and unruly.

i am beginning to understand why yorubas can be master strategist.

this policy is nothing other than a way to send all the aboki that gave dem red eye back to sokoto. after all, yorubas hardly drive okadas now.

next will be kole kole, then a ban on mai tea/ mai suya. grin grin grin grin

Thats not the issue.. Do we actually think things through?

What are the alternatives?

For instance,

BRTs can't carry dripping cartons of fish for the fish sellers, danfos can.

must they carry fish inside Danfo

New york does not have danfo buses but it has the highest armed robbery and homicide rate in the world.

So a woman that buys a carton of fish for instance in abekoko bus stop and going to pen cinema would have to wait for other people who are probably not even going towards are direction to charter a pickup van...oh boy think an nah...the mata nah fit work.

Na wa o! People supporting this are those having private cars or that their major daily activities fall within BRT operating routes. We Nigerians are always self entered, because you are not directly affected by a policy doesn't mean you should commend it, they should also ban cars since they also use cars to rob, cars do hit people infact in Lagos cars are more involve in Deadly accidents than danfo (am not saying more accidents), cars also involve in a lot of traffic law disobedience . For heaven sake a lot of people benefit from these people, imagine all the chains of people that benefits from these businesses (investors, the commuters, the operators, their families). If these are replaced with govt operated system like BRT all these resources will either go to the govt who will still pay the workers peanut and yet the dividends of the profits will not get to the people, or as usual Tinubu will privatise it and give to one of his relative to get all the profit alone.

Eradication is not always the best solution, corrective measures and improvement should be made.
this will force more investment in brt

Gentle man, there is nothing like common man. You are either a sensible and responsible person or not. People should not always cook up sentiments with the notion of being concerned about the lower economic class. If you are concerned about the "common man", why do you always want to condemn them to accepting only the substandard lifestyle. they have the right to enjoy a sane environment too.

Now about the issue in question, it took strong men like El Rufai, Ohakim etc to standard by their conviction and banned the operation of Okada. The so called common man is enjoying the serenity of Abuja today. Even when the talk about stopping small buses in Abuja came up, some people said it will not work. But behold, abuja is clean without the craze of miscreants. That is what a modern city should be like, not like the den of rascals.

Ban if u want. I want to know what alternative you've got.
As cheap and conducive as BRT is, pple still prefer danfo..day in, night out
Re: Lagos To Phase Out Motorcycles, Danfo –investigation by olaolaking: 4:58pm On Mar 21, 2016
I think this idea started with Fash regime. They will not outrightly put the buses away. But many of them will be challenged to improve to the standard set and those who can not meet up will withdraw from the service. I think government also plan to bring fierce competition to the sector

This is the problem with our leaders. They will always take the easy way out to solve a problem. How about attacking the issues of robbery for instance, from the root causes? How about improving police operations with more frequent patrols and quick/effective response to any trouble areas? How about traffic cameras to monitor those robberies on the highway so that there are eyes always alert to tackle situations? How about giving the Commissioners of Police ultimatums to ensure drastic reduction of crime or face sack and prosecution? This is where State policing is necessary because otherwise a State Governor cannot exactly order the Commissioner to do what he ought to.

When they ban the okada and buses, what alternatives are there to ensure a seamless transition? How do people get to their homes in those nooks and crannies with bad roads that are not motorable? What plans are there to construct/repair link roads and streets for ease of movement? How will public transportation be improved and what is in place to absorb those that depend on okada and buses for their livelihood? Why do these people always cause more hardship on members of the public?
Keke is an alternative. If you are conversant with Ikorodu road, you don't need second thought not to support government on this. Have you seen where Okada riders play death game trying to manoeuvre BRT buses along Mile 12 Ikorodu road. They ride with full wreckless abandoned. They take too much risk even when carrying passengers. It's too annoying when people say things that lack concrete evidence. What remains as we talk now is public announcement. I work in government transport agency and I can assure you of this ban very soon.

Phase them out .
Other states in the SW should also follow lagos lead .
All okada brings is lawlessness( Mile-12) into our cities and human misery .
We never had this okada nonsense in the SW . It all started in the 1990s.
Farmers living their farms to become okadamen in the city.
It also gives excuses to the lazy and unhealthy who do not exercise ,but blame the evil mother-in-law when they fall sick . Walking journeys become bike rides.

2 introduce a congestion charge system to reduce go-slow and generate revenues

3 Close down 1 lanes on roads like ikorodu road , badagry expressway for cycle lanes and bicycles . This will also reduce fuel consumption and reduce fuel imports

4 enforce all laws

one lane has already gone to BRT and you ask that another go to bicycles?so that the over 3mil cars that pass those roads will share how many lanes?bad idea

Mr Ambode, you are the one that will take your own bare hands and spoil Lagos. You collapsed Igbo's shops, you sent Hausa marketers away, and now you are proposing to drive away Okada riders.
As far as I can tell, the Okada's know their boundary on major express roads as you barely see them. If you go to neighboring Cotonou where there are more bikes than cars, you would know that it's possible to modernize and live in harmony with the usual.
The best thing I suggest that you do is to create routes for Okada's like they do in Cotonou and enforce the use of helmets for both riders. In fact, a route for Okada's alone will ensure people get to office faster.
