what's this new obsession with light skin? all the threads I've seen with beautiful women rarely have one woman who is dark skin, why? Is dark skin not beautiful too?

I am not dark skin myself but my sister is. & it makes me upset when people favor me over her because of my skintone or certain features. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a preference but it's just like I want to see diversity. Nowadays I only ever see light skin women or a light brown in the media, magazines, everywhere. There's absolutely nothing wrong with not being dark skin but it's wrong to me when women bleach their skin because it's like them saying dark skin is ugly. & I don't like the pressure men put on women. Nowadays to get a good husband you have to be light. & even when I went to Nigeria someone told someone in my family who was dark skin that all the bleach in America, you no go see em? It was so sad.

I detest bleach.

Bleaching is a new trend thats why so many tried to bleached their skin...

I think ladies should be contented whatever skin color they have...it's uniqueness of every person...beside no matter how u bleach ur skin, still it's in ur blood ur true color is...

Unfortunately Op, the men here would be the first to tell you how beautiful dark skinned women are when the pity party starts but are the first to enthrone an average yellow woman over a choco beauty in reality.

Kashybaby I'm not jumpin' on you but makin'corrections.
.
Bleaching is not new
nor is it a trend like wearing ombre hair coloring.
But a long standing issue rooted in Colorisum/shadisum/Rasicum.
An issue bleaching companies/lines have taken advantage of making their pockets fat offering a "solution" to.
I don't know about Nigeria but here in the US light girls are the beauty ideal.
So it stands ta reason that there'd be women who crave, even to their detriment to be this ideal.

Well, u in the US u say? Ur right that bleaching isn't new in the US so as in the Asia...

What I am talking abt here it's "trending" in Africa...

Why do these ladies bleached these days anyway, why not they didn't bleached themselves a couple of decades ago since this "bleaching" u said is not new nor trending?

Simply no one dares before to bleach themselves until they saw Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj turns hash tag light skin --- when? Early last yr..

Ooh I so don't wanna argue with you over this.
But I will say that like there here in the US those ladies you mentioned are setting beauty standards

But bleaching in Africa is not new.
Follow this link for some history on it on the continent.
If you like anway.

It reinterates what I said in my above post.

Of course being dark-skinned is as well beautiful. But if u so favour it,why not quit ur fancy cream and soap and substitute it with Shea butter and any of those cheap local black soaps.
But I bet u won't do that. U love ur skin this way and would rather remain light skinned than dark.

Black is beautiful, but most ppl feel fair is more beautiful.

All I ever use is black soap & Shea butter, although sometimes I mix in coconut oil. In fact black soap & Shea is so popular in the U.S. now that it is so expensive. It's trendy. It's the best skin care product in my opinion. I've used it since I was a child & never had acne or skin problems. & I personally would not mind being dark. In the summer I stay in the sun & I tan a few shades easily & I enjoy it. But since I live in the states & in the east coast the cold weather doesn't allow me to tan.
