Hello ladies, With all the general talk of high temperatures and fevers. Just thought to share this: I went on a baby first aid course just before i had my baby and i realise there are a lot of situations that I had no clue as to what to do if they happened. (shouting blurrojisos, mogbe and egbami while running around like a dazed chicken does not count as taking action ) We all pray for the best but knowledge is power and could save a life as every second counts in an emergency situation. Please Try and download the british red cross app for baby and child first aid. It is very informative and gives info on a number of issues that could arise in babies and children. Including animated videos on how to do cpr, deal with choking and what to do in other emergency situations. Please find time to go through it and refresh your memory of it every few months... also get partners/ husbands to watch as well as two heads are better at remembering things in the event of a panicky emergency situation. I pray no-one has to use them. But shouting God forbid and this is not my portion will not remove the food lodged in a childs throat. ( sorry for the grimness) Ahnie: i hope your LO is better. But if you are having any second thoughts just take her to the hospital. Have a blessed day all. PS: i did the course in the UK, i dont know if they have a equivalent one in naija. So if anyone has any info on this, please share. 10 Likes 2 Shares

cutienik: Welcome to the terrible twos sweetie Toddlers usually are like that from about 22months to 36 months thereabouts. We will have to find ways of steering his emotions and energy the right way. You will be firm and patient. No smacking abeg though I know the occasional smack on the butt will certainly occur. But its best you use correction methods like time out, lock them in the room till they're calmer, sit in one corner etc etc I found out for my first son though much later that because I didn't study him well he was always seemingly naughty and i was always smacking him which of course didn't help the matter. One key trigger of the issues is hunger. Ensure he's well fed at every point. Time his meals and siesta/nap times.Cut off sugary stuff sweets and coca cola etc. Read up one post by hajarahbadmus on schedules it'll help a lot. He must have a regular bedtime and wake up time as much as you can help it. Engage him with coloring books, writing materials and some tv. If he can play outside please ensure he does. Ask daddy to invest in a tricycle of he doesn't already have please lol As per potty matters keep taking him to the potty every hour. When he does it on the floor just express that you're not happy with some words but don't show frustration. No idea about this pneumonia oh. But easy on the cold drinks 6 Likes 1 Share |

Hello Mothers in the house. I urgently need your advice please. I have a ten months old baby that i drop at the creche every morning and I ensure that I leave enough food for him everyday. Each day when i go to pick my boy at the creche, I am always told his food has finished and sometimes i am called while at the office that the food i dropped as finished. My worry is that, on weekends when I am at home with my boy, he doesnt eat as much quantity as what i drop at the creche. So i am begining to wonder if they have not been using my baby's food to feed other babies. The most worrisome part is that my boy's weight has not increased much despite the large volume of food i drop at the creche everyday. Mothers, please advise me on what to do. I dont want to change the creche as I might run into a worse trouble than this. Is there a way I can regulate my baby's food at the creche? Thanks Worrried Parent. |

kilonso001: Permit me to ask what quantity of food you drop for the child? When it runs out while you are at work, what do they do to feed the child? |

ahnie:She might be teething as earlier said pls get the thermometer it helps alot and makes you at peace. My baby is teething presently and had high temperature last 4days so i used the thermometer to check his temp.and it read 38 which i know its not on the danger side. I though it would read more than that cos of the normal hand i used to feel his body but it didnt. I just removed his clothes, used damp towel to clean his body and gave pcm every four hours and he is vry okay now. The plain truth is that some doctors dont believe in teething discomfort and fever if you go to them they give you antibiotics or anti malaria drug. All the same litle Zino will be fine, watch her closely and if there is no change from the home remedies given to you take her to the hospital. |

cutienik: Babe, you have to be firm, you let lil man know there are rewards/ consequences for any action of his, do not succumb NOW, you have to lay a foundation for how you mean to proceed... By proceed I mean, Discipline & we discipline to correct & not to punish, We can't have him biting or hitting his classmates or teachers... No bueno..... Would have posited "Terrible Two" but you mentioned begging him before he stops which is a clear indication that he knows what he is doing & is only testing your limit.... Don't let him take control out of your hands.. Potty training is a pain in the butt but hang in there & continue to gently steer him towards the potty, get him a fancifully designed potty that he'd like to sit on... As for the chest pain, see a Dr, doesn't sound like pneumonia to me, Pneumonia comes with coughing & Wheezing... Do an ECG. **My way (what works for me ) which I'm not prescribing** You hit me, I hit right back, I won't tell you "i'll beat you <insert name here>, I go ahead & tap his/her butt. You bite me, I'm putting my teeth on your skin too... I'm all for "gentle" use of the rod!! I'm not sparing you unless you are less than 1! I am not in obodo oyinbo, won't raise obodo oyinbo children!! 19 Likes 1 Share |

On Tuesday for example, I dropped half a tinful of Nutrilac and was told he finished it by evening when i went to pick him. Meanwhile, he doesnt eat that much when he is at home with me. Whenever they call me from the office that his food has finished, I have a friend who I call and plead with to help me buy a tin of food and drop at the creche till I come back in the evening when I can repay her. babythug: |

@kilonso001, babies that are fussy eaters tend to eat more @ creche. If it's cereal, you can tell them d number of scoops to give ur baby per feed. 5 Likes |

kilonso001: Hello May be they are not measuring it it as you do at home. If for instance you use 2 spoons at home and in the creche they use 4, it will obviously finish quicker. Not also ruling out that they may be using it for other kids or even taking it home.... anything is possible. Rather than dropping the whole tin, why not try measuring out each feed in small individual containers. you drop enough containers to cater for the time he is there plus 2 or 3 extra feeds So if your lo usually feeds every 4 hours when he is home and he is at the creche for 10 hrs you drop off about 5 containers. That way it is easier to instruct the creche staff one container per feed. I suspect it will be very hard for them to call at at half day and say they have fed the child 5 times since you dropped him off. Good luck 10 Likes |

kilonso001: Please check your baby's bib, all the food could be going there instead of the mouth. Then if you have another option of a good creche, please change his creche then you'd know the truth. |

AlphaHandMaiden: @kilonso001 these were my thoughts too! You can try portioning the cereal and milk for a while lets see. Bear in mind that some children are social eaters and will eat more at creche than at home! Do you add other meals asides cereals? Maybe like snacks - biscuits, cheese balls or perhaps fruits? Its possible that since they have nothing else to offer the baby they keep giving the baby cereal.over and over. Do keep us posted! 1 Like |

tatacherie:My baby does the same. It's more like grunting than snoring. I was assured by two docs that it wasn't a problem. I also read on Google that it was common with babies. But, you can take her to the Doc for reassurance. Hopefully, it's nothing. 1 Like |

We are fortunate here, can't count the nos of ilu oyinbo children of that age showing dem parents pepper & running rings around them..... mydreams25: I experienced the same too towards last week, my nine month old son is about cutting his incisors and he has been running high temperatures, he wouldn't take his formula or cereal, he wouldn't want other people to carry him, he wouldn't stop crying ,he just doesn't want to leave my side, the only thing he accepts is breast milk and water. when he cut his first two teeth up and down( Canine) it was a smooth experience with just a bit of catarrh and cold at 6 months, ,7 months and 8 months, but cutting the remaining ones at 9 month has been very difficult on us. He is on piccan now , and there seems to be some respite. He is now eating eba, yam and some other food which he enjoyed eating from 6 months old in bits but he just wont take formula anymore.. Your son will be fine |
