This is commendable. But it is sad that the APC apologists will attempt to make this a tool for criticizing GEJ. This commendable initiative is the just an offshoot of the homemade military innovations born and nourished under GEJ. They gave rise to -the igirigi APC - At least 2 home made seaward patrol boats - locally produced bullet proof jackets - Amebo RPV etc. Lets try and appreciate good advancements from wherever they come!!!! |

omenka: Have you some sense of decency?? Thought you're an adult? Have you sold your mental prowess to politics? What's makes you different from the people that attack you based on your political differences?? You can copy the moderator for my comment, but truly your brain has been bought, wonder the kind of kids you'll ever raise. You my friend have sold your conscience for politics. Even the politicians don't speak dishonourable and foolishly like you. |

naptu2: Even if they were conceived pre independence, why bring political difference into it? He was trying to correct Omenka and co. BTW, you might need to know that the greatest funding (regardless of the loot and stealing). The Nigerian Army ever had, came during GEJ, regardless of all his enormous shortcoming 1 Like |

erekoshe: I agree that political differences shouldn't be brought into this. We must unite to defeat the enemy. I was merely giving credit to whom it's due. These platforms and devices were conceived during the Obasanjo era and the momentum was sustained by the Yar'Adua, Jonathan and Buhari governments. They all deserve credit (especially Admiral Adekeye). By the way, the greatest funding and upgrade that the NIgerian Armed Forces (and police) ever had occurred during the Obasanjo/Shagari era in the late 1970s and early 1980s (Sepecat Jaguars, Alpha Jets, Nigeria's current flagship NNS Aradu, Saxon Armoured Personnel Carriers, the Landing Ship Tanks [NNS Ambe and NNS Offiom], etc were all bought at this time). |

naptu2: I went thru NMS and sorry I wasn't old enough to see the funding during that era, but I repeat it was during GEJ for purchasing power is something u should consider.. I said funding, not equipments! |
Re: Rechargeable Blasting Device For Unexploded Bombs Unveiled By Army - Photos by naptu2: 8:47am On Apr 09, 2016 |
erekoshe: O well, you weren't old enough. Remember that this was during the oil boom when Nigeria had more than enough money and the naira was stronger than the pound and the dollar. I'm referring to funding. Remember that equipment are bought with funds and (of course) the welfare of the officers and men was better then. |

naptu2: I understand what I'm saying. I understand your point so well but u really don't get mine. The amount pushed into the army the past few years almost exceed those all thru history.. Most were looted and relooted.. Our generals are super wealthy while the guys down the foodchain roast. The number of military men during the era you mentioned were not as much and the funds were well utilized.. Now some niggas just share huge chunk of it. Dasukis case is said to be 2.1 billion USD, under 2years.. A billion dollars was borrowed for the military, come on bro. Check figures properly. |
Re: Rechargeable Blasting Device For Unexploded Bombs Unveiled By Army - Photos by naptu2: 9:08am On Apr 09, 2016 |
erekoshe: I agree with you about the awful corruption and the fact that resources were better utilised then. However, we had more men under arms then. At the end of the Civil War there were 200,000 men in the Nigerian Army. This was reduced to 100,000 after the war. Nigeria had the largest standing army in Africa in the late 1970s and early '80s. It was during the Babangida era that the army was downsized (90,000, etc) because of the economic crisis at that time. |

My brother who knows what was conceived when? Except you were on the conception team? My point is conception is great and should be commended, as you have rightly done. Execution is also not easy and should be commended. Hence my commendation of GEJ. Also those who have carried on this commendable practice today (by developing this latest equipment) must be commended as many commenters above me have done. What we must remember is that govts exist to ensure a continuum. All commendable precedents set by the past administrations must be acknowledged, commended and furthered. The unfortunate thing is that APC's style of campaigning has made it so difficult for them to acknowledge anything good from the past administration, such that it is now like going back to vomit for them to even admit they inherited any good policies, ideas or projects. But the saddest thing is when we the 'down trodden' swallow their rubbish and tear ourselves to bits online. Really makes me wonder if this Country can even recover from the consistent decline since 1960!!! naptu2: |
