You hardly find ladies in Topics like this..... But if it was something like "Can you date a guy with/without a car" you'd see all of them giving irrelevant opinion.... wondering when it became a crime for girls to work leggaly hard and buy their car 8 Likes |

Apart from the visit I made in Feb this year to clear the 'dirt in the fuel system' (and probably have a change of the fuel pump), I can honestly say that I have not 'been to the Mechanic' - as defined by you - since I bought my Toyota Yaris in 2009 The vehicle was bought as brand new from Elizade Motors in Feb 2009 here in Akure. And I did not bother to even go back for their so-called first "free service". We have since been driving it to many diverse places all over the country - Zamfara, Kaduna, Anambra, Imo, etc, from our enclave in Ondo state. But as much as possible, we try to avoid Lagos! (It is reputed that there is no 'good' driver in Lagos!) The traffic chaos is Lagos is many times aggravated because of the so-called drivers there are not! First and foremost, "Patience is the word!" In our family we are have been lucky to have careful drivers... All of us try to stick to the basic rules of driving. For example, my wife's first car was a Peugeot 504. I had bought it in 1984 from UTC Apapa. As from 1987 my wife had an exclusive use of it - since I had access to other vehicles from my employer, then in Ibadan. In 2012, (yes, some 25 years later!), when she was about to retire, it was a battle royale before we could separate them when we wanted to change the Peugeot to a Toyota Corolla! By the way, this 32 year old car is still in our garage: proudly signifying dignity. But with no electric powered windows, automatic gear shift, etc no one ever 'see' this good old dependable horse any more. Not to talk of driving it. In fact, since 2013, its battery has been permanently removed So in short, it is no big deal: one can really avoid needless visits to the mechanic if only you keep to the rules of the manufacturers... For example: All the car manufacturers indicate: There is no need to "WARM" your engine. As soon as you start up the engine and the indicator lights go off, you are supposed to drive off - gently.... (Try to read your Manual on this!) But I am yet to see another family that does this! I am happy to note that in their respective families, my 'children' have become responsible car owners and are creating their own records of belonging to the exclusive class of those we can refer to as being careful drivers..... In short, for more than EIGHT YEARS, I did not have to visit the mechanic 9 Likes 2 Shares |

ogawisdom: My husband has a Carina e XLI. Served for years and ha gone for even up to a year without a need for the mechanic but its parked now. Started jerking and we tried several solution without success. The mechs or electrician will just come an assure that its a small thing, collect money an daftwr repairing, the car would still jerk. He bought new spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, changed a working fuel pump, and injector nozzles still no change. I would just start jerking especially when the car ha warmed. I know it has o do with with how the can deals with temperator anndhence an electrical fault but that's as far as my mech orientation would take me. Have you experienced this before o know anyone with solution in Lagos? He's not a nairalander els I'd have told him to create a thread. Thankss |

For what ? I dont remember going to mechanic ever. Service center sends staff to come and do servicing at home and my cars never breaks down. I drive brand new of exclusive brands only. And if I dont like any of vehicles, not to talk of getting bad, I call my auto dealer to come and take it for re-sale and bring me another vehicle. That's how I roll. 3 Likes |

shinebabe: Yes I experienced it jst 3 weeks ago hesitation/slight jerk on heavy acceleration but it was caused by bad fuel I bought. U can read d thread I created on dt. Jerk can b caused by poor fuel delivery, bad spark plugs, poor air flow etc. Going by all u ve changed i am surprised it still jerks, Since u r in Lagos I refer u to gazzuzz workshop for solution, d guy sabi work |

Yehman: For hw long nw, what's d year of d car. Generally d more recent a car is d less wahala it gives BC it's mostly running on d durable factory fitted parts. Of course good maintenance culture plays a huge part plus mileage. A well maintained car less than 5years say 2010 production may nt b seeing a mechanic at all in a yrs except for oil change. From my experience d major problems are quack mechanics, fake parts, our bad roads n poor maintenance culture of car owners 3 Likes |
