Altima2.5 is an i4 engine not v6. 2013 Altima outclasses the accord 2013 in performance and styling with more mpg self not to talk of a 2012 accord. You might have a problem with the spares and technical know-how compared to the accord. The Cvt might be another setback. I'm using the altima 2008 presently and its a good car, would upgrade to a 2014 model or Ford.
I want to buy this 2008 Altima as first car.....would you advice that I go ahead with this. It's the 4plug with push to start. Would I spend an arm and a leg on repairs later on. What problems did you encounter and how much did it take to fix?

hello house

I have a Nissan Altima 2007 2.5L engine CVT. Ran a diagnostic checks today and got the following codes

· P1574
· P1715
· P1778
· P0550

Noticeable symptoms
· Car accelerates slowly when starting up and when climbing steeply hill or bridge even if the accelerator is pressed to the floor.
· Engine shuts down mostly at slow speeds when the car starts up- (the lights on dashboard remains on)
· speedometer drops to zero when speed limits reaches like 40kmh. at this point the yellow key light comes on but the car continue driving but seems to lose power.
· Steering wheel hard a little
· The transmission still selects gear.

can anyone help with the above.

P1778 is to be most dreaded because it just might be the beginning of the end of the cvt. But it may well (hopefully) have been triggered by the other codes. There are some two or three variations to the 2007 Altima and before I can make comments on the codes I'd want to be certain we're specifically dealing with your car. This can only be done through your VIN. Are you disposed to post it? Or you may call me to do some brainstorming.

I think otherwise - 1778 setting the others.

That is, P1778 is triggering off P1574 and P1715.
P0550 (Power Steering Pressure Sensor), I believe, is an independent issue.
Still, I prefer to reserve further comments until I'm sure of your car specs.

If it is strictly stepper motor going bad then, it is straight forward but, we know how these codes work undecided

In Primeras with CVT, yes you can source and replace the stepper motor. Not so in cvt in Nissan America. The best you'll get is valve body (of which the SM is a component) replacement.

If it's confirmed that your problem is the SM, I could source it for you. Good luck.

Manufactured in Feb 2007 with Grey exterior and Frost interior colours. Fed spec. I'll check it out later.
NB: The letters I(i) and O(o) are not used in VIN. Its 1 and 0.

I have now reread your original complaint. It is a SM/VB issue with that transmission. The TCM is inside the transmission. It receives signal from the speed sensor and sends same to the ECU, which in turn sends to the speedo. With the stepper motor malfunctioning, the TCM thinks it has a bogus feed at around 40mph, and cuts off signal to the ECU. Your speedo should start working again after speed drops to around 8mph right? At the other hand, it could be the TCM!

I don't know who is troubleshooting this for you, and the level of his competence but unfortunately, I cannot do much for you personally apart from probably helping look for a stepper motor for you. CVTs have fewer components than a regular AT, its problems most times are with the electrical. Has a technician looked at the car?

thanks so much @kashif

you really got my issue and now i have a better understanding as regards the malfunction.

i have involved @nisspart. we already discussed and i will get the car to him next week. i'll let you know of the outcome.

one more thing please.. does the tranny still selects gears if one continues driving after the TCM cuts off signal to the ECU?. just wondering cos the car keeps moving at this point though not a normal drive.

It drives in failsafe mode, meaning the RPM will be higher (typically 3000). When transmissions safe fail, they tend to drive at mid range. Let me know how it goes with Nisspart. It will help to test all electricals relating to the transmission . Good luck!
