Stop Laminating Certificates! by Timolanki(m): 12:03am On Apr 23, 2016 |
I was overwhelmed when i was handed my licence and certificate after my oath taking n convocation respectively. The next thing that crossed my mind was to go and protect it with a permanent, termite resistant lamination only for my happiness to b ruined at home. My cousin on seeing my laminated cert n licence told me that i ve rendered them useless that employees no longer accept laminated cert. I asked why n he said that fake cert are concealed by lamination as d genuiness can't b detected with a computer. I asked other people n they confirmed it. So if ur planning 2 laminate ur cert ask questions b4 dat. HOW TRUE IS THIS NAIRALANDERS COS I FEEL AWFUL NOW? 15 Likes 10 Shares

It is better to have a laminated certificate than one that is torn, rat-eaten, oil stained or dirty. I laminated all my certs and they're still a good as new today, and mind you, no employer has ever rejected them. In the first place original certs are even produced on a need to see basis, you don't have to show them to every interviewer unless specifically requested for 226 Likes 14 Shares |

Back in the days when ordinary conqueror papers were used for certificates, one for sure can laminate...But now, most schools have some kinda security imprint on the paper which can't be seen with the nakëd eye..it was during my registration in NYSC camp that I got to know my undergraduate certificate had some other designs when placed under blue fluorescent light(that's what I saw tho). A guy was delayed for hours as his certificate was laminated and no special designs(security prints) could be detected under the blue light... For me, I would suggest certificates shouldn't be laminated...Even my primary school certificate is still as new as received..rain and oil drops? I don't think that's an excuse to get a certificate laminated 27 Likes 3 Shares |

Serious threats & potential mutilators of ur certificate surround u left and right; serious-minded potential employers come once in a while. Laminate ur certificate and protect it. Reputable employers verify ur certificate from d issuing authority/institution even without ur knowledge. I rest my case. 132 Likes 6 Shares |

It's true. After going through lots of stress to get my Original birth certificate, I quickly laminated it to have it protected. NLs, I got to one of our Embassies only to have it rejected. Had to apply for a re-issue. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I suggest you put your certificates in a photo or picture frame where they can be easily removed at will. Lamination is a NO!!! If you ever have any international plans. Please take it from me. 7 Likes |

This thing we call certificate is just overrated. If we develop our brain and use it well, we don't need that sh!!t. You can ask Bill Gates or Dangote. After my 5years in school, i was disappointed to be handed a mere paper that was manufactured within a span of few minutes. And i wonder how this paper compares to my 5years of suffering where the most you can get from it is being a slave to a company owned by a man who has no certificate or can't even locate where he kept his certificate. If you earn much in such companies, it is either you have or are dedicating most of your youthful age to its growth, or it poses threat to your life or health. And the worst part is a man who has the money can just pay his way to obtain what you have been suffering to get for years. OP, I have laminated my certificate and i was told long ago it is not good to do so. But i dont give a damn! Who certificate don epp? (to speak in Bill Gates, Seun Osewa and other entrepreneurs' point of view) If we can't start having that entrepreneural spirit, we will remain stagnant in terms of development while we keep using our certificate to work as modern sophisticated slaves in all these oyibo companies. Lemme stop here. But Nigerians and certificate.... 19 Likes 4 Shares

Laminated ORIGINAL certificates can not be NOTARIZED If you intend using your certificate outside the country of origin, then do NOT laminate your certificate About employees (in nigeria) not accepting laminated certificate because of ingenuity. I don't know when that started, but I'm aware employees can request a verification from the certifying body. If you must laminate, don't laminate from a quack who would end up ruining your certificate right before your eyes! 3 Likes |

While this has been observed, I believe when it comes to confirmation of certificates, the certificate number which is boldly seen lamination or not is what is primarily utilised. The number is cross referenced with that of the issuing body to ascertain if it is authentic. Now a certificate number that has been altered will not register with the records of the issuing body. In my opinion the certificate number is the key. 12 Likes |

True OP. The reason is simple. Lamination sometimes destroys the seal of the certificate which is the only mark of authenticity on most certs. There's a way you laminate without rendering the seal useless. 1 Like 1 Share |

Lamination is of two types, one is for temporary use while the other is permanently seal. for the temporarily seal,it can be easily cut @ any edge of the lamination/ seal copy so that such certificate could be removed when the needs arises without any damage. 6 Likes |
