STFUand4kMeHARD:
President Muhammadu Buhari’s current economic policies bear a stark resemblance of those he promulgated during the military regime he led in the 1980s, a former Minister of Education and social critic, Oby Ezekwesili, has said.
Mrs. Ezekwesili said Mr. Buhari’s “archaic” and “opaque” economic principles are not only encouraging massive corruption and abuse of power, but also hurting the poor they was intended to help.
Mrs. Ezekwesili said this at The Platform, a yearly public policy forum that is currently underway in Abuja.
“During the first coming of this our new president, a command and control economic system was adopted.
“During that era, inflation spiralled. During that era, jobs were lost. During that era, the economic growth level dipped,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said. “That era wasn’t the best of eras in economic progress.”
“What did not work in 1984 cannot possibly be a solution in a global economy that’s much more integrated.”
Mrs. Ezekwesili said Mr. Buhari was rehashing the same “command and control” approach towards economic issues which has left the country’s economic indices worse off since he assumed office almost year ago.
“In over one year, the president is still holding to the premise that command and control is the only way out,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said. “In a year we have lost the single digits inflation status we maintained in past administrations.”

Mrs. Ezekwesili said Mr. Buhari’s distortion of foreign exchange system has left the poor it was intended to support even worse off.
“The president comes into this economic philosophy on the premise that he does not want the poor to suffer. I can relate to that, a leader must, especially a leader who knows that most of his votes came not from the elite but from the poor.”
“The problem though is that the intention and the outcome are diverged.
“The weakest and the most vulnerable suffer the impact of inflation the most. Enormous power is being abused as a result of opaque economic policies.
“Companies are suddenly finding themselves unable to produce because they’re unable to access foreign exchange,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said.
Mrs. Ezekwesili, therefore, urged Mr. Buhari to sit down with his administration officials and reconsider the impact his polices have had on the nation’s economy, quoting an American parlance that says if something is not broken there’s no need fixing it”.
“Mr. President should sit with his team and look at the economic evidence that speaks loudly. It’s time to sit back and review the well-intended idea of command and control economic principle.
“He should do what the Americans say that if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said.

Let every Nigerians start to thank God for expossing this dunce Buhari's incompetence. When Buhari came into power with the most powerful force of the votes, followed by the most powerful propaganda, some even most dangerious, one quickly realised that it was all as a result of hate for the minority. Even when he had succeeded, apc increased the blame game by saying Buhari's body language was even more sharper than blade. As at today, there is noting like body language. Some of his supporters are even saying he is too old hence his poor performance, others are saying, he is just learning new system outside the military ways of doing things. In all, not body should be decieved. Buhari naturally lack any IQ or methodology to perform. Military uses force and you are expected to obay. If you are among those waiting for any good results from Buhari, you will only recrease your BP. Buhari' fame is fast going down becuase it was artificial. If Buhari was genuinly good, his downward fall cannot be so fast. That apart, he lack good spirit going by the happenings. Let us wise up, ho ye good Nigerians and throw away this thing call Buhari by 2019.

it seem people don't know this woman want devaluation and free enterprise while we still lack competence to play at the world stage! have people forgoten she is part of foreign stooges amongst us? why do you think buhari did not fix her in his cabinet or employ her as an adviser on something? Buhari should ignored her likes, no pain no gain. Things are difficult for me presently but with buhari steps so far on import restrictions and forex policy I have hope of better days ahead! grin

I PREDICTED THIS CRISIS IN 2014 WHEN ALL THESE SO CALLED EXPERTS WERE SHOUTING TRANSFORMATION AGENDA AND "LARGEST" ECONOMY IN THE WORLD.
I wrote about exactly what was going to happens
I beg to disagree.
The Nigerian non-economy has always been non-existent.
Take a trip to a high brow hotel, political gathering or an international/domestic airports and you would think that Nigeria is a country full of industrialist and big corporations with all the big cars, 95% of American cannot afford, private jets and $1,000 cocktails being quashed in bars on the island.
Only Buhari or the Niger Delta militants can do Nigerians a favour.
Switch off the damn oil so that Nigerians can grow some brains.
Just like Mao and Stalin taught their people a bitter lesson in self reliance.
Shape up or starve to death.
We go through the motion of copying oyinbos like our so called democracy .
Stock market ,capital markets and all that crap.
In reality, there is a barely a trace of governance, functioning economy and all.
This is why the devaluation, revaluation or the appreciation of the currency makes no difference.
The biggest jokes
How else can you determine?
The relationship between rents and buying houses.
Those housing prices are same or more in many Nigerian cities than in many places in America,Canada and uk.
Yet you get more from renting in those 3 countries.
There you have it. An absolute disconnect.
The crap we import are not only of less quality than the equivalent bought overseas, they are also more expensive.
This is what i call the stark naked truth. The country is not productive but the rich business men continue to source for forex to bring in what? "RUBBISH". We are poor as a country of 180 million people with a reserve of less than 29 billion dollar and we produce what? Absolutely nothing.
Today, i witnessed the offload of six containers of foreign chocolate, apparently brought in from denmark.
I asked myself, who can afford to import boxes of chocolate at a time like this? The importers probably sourced their forex from the parallel market.
We certainly havent learnt a thin in this country.
Even if we allow GEJ and PMB to co-rule(if there is any such word) this country, so long as we fail to come to terms with the economic mess we have found ourselves, we will not make any meaningful progress.
Now, we are seeing the wailers and the zombies singing in one accord, but will that solve the economic problem?
The truth is that nigeria has the potential to be a rich nation, but as it is we are a very poor country ruled by people who are bereft or too lazy to figure a way out of this doldrum.

I told someone during apc primary that voting buhari as president base on his records of over 30years ago is weird. Its like asking basorun gaa of d old oyo empire to come back and rule as a king in this dispensation.

In d past oyo king rule like small GOD. They married women without their consent. They behead people as a sacrifice to idols. pratice slavery and kill them at will, to mention few.
Now asking d old kings to come back and rule in this era can never fit to the system and everything he does will look weird.

We are reaping d fruit of not reason enough just because of emotion and sentiment and buhari integrity.

Integrity is not all we need. Its involve intelligent and good economy team to do it.
The body language base on ekwesieli and some speakers on d program shows d cbn doesnt have policy autonomy. Buhari dictate for them.

I wonder if Dr ekwesieli knows all the past economy history of buhari in 1980s and still go ahead to campaign for him in 2015. So what kind of miracle is she expecting.

Even if jona and pdp was not an alternative then, are we saying we dont have intelligent people to run for presidency in this country apart from mr integirity?

Anyway we have learnt a big lesson but d earlier d better we prepare well for d future elections.
I beleive nigeria can be great with the loads of inteligent people around.
Lets stop recycling and let fresh blood try it. Enough of d old cargos.
GOD bless nigeria.

Aunty Oby, this is the first time you're saying the truth in your public life. I suppose your brain has been positively formatted since you were bounced back from Aso villa. I understand your rants are borne out of the fact that, you are the only outstanding figure still not compensated after the historic role played using BBOG campaign to undo the previous admin. I learned the Principal of federal girls college, Chibok was abundantly rewarded as commissioner in Borno leaving only you sidelined. Maybe because, you were once a minister hence no position lower than that will match your aspiration. However, I think your recent rants came so early because PMB must have been cooking something for you, maybe foreign mission appointment or something. Why not refrain from this attitude of ranting? After all, you knew PMB will not facilitate any positive change but your action then was based on your envisaged personal gains. Pls, let there be peace as I hope you remain silent!

To be fair to the last government their policies were some what innovative (TSA,BVN,flexible monetary rate, Agricultural reforms,Youwin....)what was lacking was will power. I Most confess corruption and impunity were the order of the day
. Sadly enough we are seeing other forms of corruption due to this government policies.
1.Forex restrictions = unhindered currency manipulation,
2.Fuel scarcity= Black market business,
3. Bail out to governors without monitor=misappropriation
4.Poor information managent = Government officials lieing without taking responsibility even when the truth eventually comes out( budget withdrawal, Islamic coalition and recent China deals
