that was 2011 and many things ve changed while many things also ve been brought to light... BUHARI is your president and you people should just go and die... Total deregulation of the oil sector is the best as he is doing... Now NNPC can sell for 86.50k while total sells for 90 and Olorimagbo Oils sells for 140 all na oil... Buy anywhere you want... if you have traveled well, you will know that is whats being done everywhere... When GLO came in with their model of free sim and per seconds billing... didnt others follow suit or are we not enjoying it today> Nigerians are intuitive and i am sure the marketers will look for ways to make more money by importing it via cheaper means so they could sell it cheaper to their filling stations and get many queues... And better still, they will make sure that our refineries work,., get used to it... 1 Like 1 Share |

LoveMachine:Brother, I don't think if our leaders-Every OPEC members inclusive actually thinkered about diversification in it genuineness as a means of revenue generation, would they have connived into cutting down the IRANIAN production quota? I mean if that decision wasn't reached, then going by the visit of PMB to IRAN, I guess Nigeria might be a destination for IRAN'S petrol by now as the benefit of trade and economic partnership agreement signed then. Thereby making the quantity available to us surplus in addition to the locally produced quantity. And that should naturally breakdown the price for local consumption rather than this price hiking policy tended towards the same surplus quantity ideology. I mean, because we want to earn foreign exchange from petroleum, we then collaborated with others into punishing ourselves via hardship again. Come on, was that why our forefathers sort after independence? |

Vveni: No sir, better late than never. You create a demand before a supply not the other way round. The reason why most government enterprises donot succeed is that they lack the fuel of free market to propel them. PAN was established long before Innoson but you can see that Innoson is walking in tandem with true market demands and will succeed whereas PPN produces cars then 'looks' for markets. What made GSM succeed was a ready market. Pre-subsidy removal there was no true petroleum products market, only a government distorted cartel playgroup. |

LoveMachine: well Fashola's analogy then was that the oil price glut is supposed to bring down the price of PMS. Now your analysis says the opposite. Who do I believe? You or Fashola? I thank God peeps like Gimba Kakanda and Pius Adesanmi (who have no GEJ or PMB bias) exist. You lots (including the Omenka I used to respect b4) would have made it difficult for one to get objective political analysis. |

Image123: for now, there is no opposition as pdp still see themselves as the ruling party, do you think an average pdp fan or member believe they are in opposition? This is the problem we have right now. what we have as so called opposition are bitter fellows who are trying to incite the masses against the FG. They talked about islamic agenda, that's not working anymore They talked about exchange rate or shortage of forex as if PMB determines the value of the dollar They can't hinged boko haram on PMB anymore as they now use the fulani herdsmen attacks as if it started today Fuel scarcity never happened under pdp they claimed They are very happy with the pipeline bombings and complain about power at the same time. We can't have quality opposition right now, reason they are called wailers. |

What I am just pleased about is the fact that the market is accessible to all comers (what Fashola should do in the power sector for a limited time before midwifing mergers to create efficiencies) and should be kept so until private refineries come online. The backs of the cartel must be broken and foreign refineries should be encouraged to sell products directly to Nigerians perhaps by building onshore depots and tank farms themselves. The price will surely retreat. I wonder why Dangote didn't start his refinery as early as 2003. Even he would have predicted this outcome and be selling gas today. |

omenka:GEJ wanted to remove subsidy because he Identified that there was oil theft and Nigerians made it look like he was exploiting us.He wanted to be able to save for the raining day and diversify our economy. I'm not saying saying that he shouldn't remove subsidy but he should have tried to understand what it meant for GEJ instead of him saying rubbish on air that subsidy removal was not acceptable.GEJ's policies (BVN and TSA) are what Baba is using. GEJ could not save for today because Amaechi and co wanted him to share excess crude account money and Nigerians didn't want him to save from subsidy removal.I think Nigerians should learn to understand their leaders.I don't like PMB but I want to understand him at least |

EITHER THEY WERE WRONG AND GEJ WAS RIGHT, OR THEY ARE SO BAD THAT THEY ARE COPYING FAILURE There's a saying that time proves everything right or wrong. As we are seeing daily, the Government of Goodluck Jonathan and those who supported it are being vindicated. It is a great time to be alive honestly and see all the hypocrites give their explanations. 1 Like

VictorRomanov: Your claim is ridiculous. How dare you compare the petroleum industry to the telecommunications sector? Although there may have been noticeable gains, but its effect on the common man is never the same as the petroleum product would. The telephone is not an essential commodity as the petrol. The common man depends on the latter for transportation and electricity. It is also an essential factor that determines the prices of goods and services in Nigeria. It further determines the cost of running small scale businesses in this era of epileptic power supply. Same cannot be said about the telephone industry you provided as an analogy. Even when the telephone sector was deregulated, only those that could afford the high cost went for it. Only those that can afford it are still patronizing it till date. There are very expensive android phones also, but not everyone owns them. Infact, a sizable number of Nigerians own and use android phones. This simply tells that the telephone ownership and usage is not an essential commodity that affects the general wellbeing of large chunk of our society. Having said these, stop comparing oranges to mangoes! |

Quakertellicus1: So if we had the revenue we should have continued the subsidy. Which kain wasteful housewife you be. Chop and chop all. When it is gone, start to save. I don't get it. There is a reason the western world does not subsidize energy. Let us find out why. My guess is that petroleum products have such a high consumption to production ratio that it is not considered worthwhile. They prefer giving you cash instead. Just like college scholarships instead of free tuition. |
The subsidy removal is a welcome development. It is much like the deregulation of telecommunications sector. At first people bought lines for 50k+ but now line is free. You only pay for recharge cards. I believe the same thing would happen to petrol, hopefully. My only annoyance is that we are 4 years late. Because the same people who are championing it now, were the same people who instigated protests all over the country. What were their motives back then? What has changed now? You talked about conditions, what conditions has changed? Looking at it carefully, I've come to see that politicians care little or nothing about the masses. Their only concern is wrestling down power from their opponents, even if this means being unreasonable. And my friend, its so unfortunate that u have refused to see this! very reasonable comnent..... nice one@victor |

VictorRomanov: Nice post, Not only am i an ardent supporter of the present Government, i am also a believer of subsidy removal. It is a necessary risk that our government need to undertake. I am only bitter about the timing of this announcement because this year has already been hell for Nigerians and the last thing we need now is increment in PMS. However, on the bolded part of your post, i must say that the difference in Subsidy removal under GEJ and Buhari is found in the word -BRAND EQUITY. Do well to search for the meaning and then you'll understand why the reaction is much more less apprehensive from Nigerians. We are almost 100% sure that, unlike in 2012, the money saved from subsidy payments will be well accounted for this time around. 1 Like 1 Share |
What do these guys know. They are just inconsolable Wailers. These same people that have been coming here to shout "we've been buying fuel at N400 a litre" are now making so much noise it would be sold at 145. What sense is there in their position? [/quote So that's the game plan, what happened to the initial 86.5? It is in this same administration that fuel is been sold at #400 To you APC have reduced fuel price. |
