The Federal Government can't do anything against the move by State Governors to protect their land else they will be seen as being complicit in terrorism. The terrorist herdsmen were declared as 4th deadly terrorist group for a reason.

I disagree with Buhari on his approach to this matter. He is partisan. And for the first time, I agree with Fayose. This threat alone is enough to bring normalcy.

If they ask them to close their shops, let them go further by packing and returning home.

To be fair to the man, he has recently banned all forms of night grazing/cattle rearing and prohibited the herdsmen from carrying any weapons at night. It's not much but at least it's a start. The real question is what will happen to the herdsmen when they inevitably fail to adhere to this new ruling...

Quite wrong. Throughout the course of history, violence has solved a lot of things. It was violence that solved the problem of Adolf Hitler, was it not? The world is filled with evil, and there will always be an abundance of evil and unreasonable men who will not be persuaded to become reasonable. History has shown time and time again, that violence is sometimes an unfortunate but very effective and acceptable means of solving certain problems.

Right now, virtually the whole of southern Nigeria is under siege as these "herdsmen" carry out wanton attacks wherever they please. The primary security apparatus of the country has failed woefully and as such, we now face desperate times during which desperate measures must be deployed to protect the lives and livelihood of innocent citizens. Will there be collateral damage? Quite possible. We do not always have the luxury of choosing between the absolute good and the absolute evil, and we must have the courage to do occasionally unsavory things.

As to the assertion that arming the hunters would lead to another crisis, you have assumed that there is no means of controlling them but is that factual? Most of these associations of artisans such as hunters have well developed means of identifying their members and if any of them runs afoul of the law, then their leadership, in partnership with the police, can hold them accountable.
