@ Bandwidth,

The plan was to help our man fix a DPC in a house without one. And the koko be say "shingba" no dey (the client do not have much). Here's the final part of the work done to the clients little budget.

This can be improved upon by introducing damp proof membrane, pouring slurry concrete inside the foundation block hollow to prevent rising damp and more.

Hope this simple fix work for you.

Ensure you install reinforcement no matter how small in size (8mm) it is in order to prevent crack.

(Don't mind the blurry pics, they are old pics gotten from iCloud)

Greetings.

Could someone please educate me on the meaning of the word "kowope"?. Thank you.
kowope is a Yoruba word and I will split it before giving u full meaning.

Full spelling of kowope is ----> ki -owo- pe which means " make money complete" (in pidgin will be better) grin

**** have you ever looked at something someone called 40k and u hissed mere seeing it....meaning it doesnt want it. Apply #kowope theory grin you will buy the one more better and even cheaper.

**** you went to the market to buy doors for your building and some were tagged 100k while some are 40k. The 40k own share same durability with the one of 100k but they are sweet mouthing for u to enjoy your money because u worked for it. Apply #kowope theory. 100-40= 60. 60k will solve another problem in your life.

**** you needed a house, you searched around the net for houses for sale and you found a choice of yours.......a 3bedroom bungalow selling for 60m becos them tell u say na ajah them build am. Apply #kowope theory grin , you will buy a land close to that ajah and build a duplex and still have enough change to push other things forward.

**** you want to live the king lifestyle and you bought a 45m bed when 20-100k own full market, like seriously to impress who? Bedroom wey visitors no go even see the bed angry apply #kowope theory grin , buy the cheap ones invest with the rest. Even if you are a millionaire, have u asked yourself why dangote keep expanding his investment despite being the richest man in africa? Bill gate can never count his 45m to buy a bed, dangote won't buy such only broke ppl who thinks they are rich buy such. Check them in 15-30 years time, their life won't be the same especially if they have prodigal children.

Its good to enjoy your money but its foolish to spend on thing's that don't worth.

It's never too late to do your DPC. You just have to know how to do it right.

Here's something from the Past. Hope it helps you address your Present issue.

instead of filling hollow blocks with concrete, which consumes more funds, why dont u builders advise clients to use solid blocks for foundation. i have seen many engineers using 6" hollow blocks for bungalow and filling it with concrete. why not just use 6" solid block and save the money for something else...

Very good point made here. Unfortunately, this will not apply to the situation on ground because the past is robbing on the present. The foundation has already been built with Hollow block even to the level of lintels, theres no way to go back to fix that other than breaking the blocks to fill the hollow space with slurry concrete.

Yeah, it consumes fund but it's better than not doing anything. However, this is optional depending on site condition and the soil property.

Hope I'm making sense here.

Sure, once you have it available for a new project. It made more sense to use solid blocks instead of filling it up with concrete.

Hello House,
Please can you advice on the sequence of activities to be done before completion of finishing.

Currently tiling and installation of railings are being done so activities pending are:

Toilet fittings
Electrical fittings
Installation of kitchen cabinets and room wardrobes
Painting
Interlocking

Is this the right order for these activities?
what is the average for doing interlocking per sqm with/without supply of materials?
Also what is the average price of installation of simple kitchen fittings? a worktop is already in place so all that is needed a few doors/drawers beneath the worktop and two cabinets are the top.
Finally what is the cost of fabrication of a 4ft wardrobe using either mdf or hdf?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

who is feeding u with this info?
seems u use what u see on here as a benchmark for constructions?
i dont need any thread! is what i see everyday... i have built houses with 5" hollow and solid blocks in benin. here u are talking about 6" block for a bungalow.

i wouldn't advise any one to build a bungalow with 9" block, except he/she has money to throw around. 9" are for buildings with suspended floors. like i said earlier, 6" solid blocks can even be use for some build with suspended floor. there absolutely nothing wrong with using 6" blocks for foundation for a bungalow... engrs on here can attest to this. seems u havent seen houses built with 5"blocks from foundation to head level?

to your first question
I will say the material composition cos it contains a strong alloy of steel and Aluminum then coated with plastic (PSV) to make it look good
to your 2nd question I wil like to use teh term coated Aluminum
PS: Plz Ignore teh dirty windows, thats the only window I could find like just now that has that.My hows is a town house and we have teh 1930s window still.
and don't try to steal my position on this thread, by the special grace of God I'm the youngest landlord here grin grin grin

@EgunMogaji....thanks for your prompt response. I will check the link. Price is not an issue for me but my core focus is strength and durability not aesthetic. Nothing I distaste as much as recurrent expenses.
Insulation works both ways. It can trap the cold air indoors when the house gets cold and you decide to off the AC and it can make the house feel like oven when there is no light.

More enlightenment on uPVC pls.

@erico2k2 yes I noticed the small amount of mortar too. That is purely down to the mix. In Nigeria, some people use 1 bag of cement to set 80-100 blocks.. Of course it won't bind properly.
quick question, what would be an ideal mix for block setting ,what can one bag set as i n how many blocks ie 6inch solid?

I just noticed that uPVC can come with double and triple pane like EBM. What of the window profile....since its molded, can one decide to increase the profile or its only produced to a particular size?
The Glaze is Glass, 1 glas,2 glass and 3 glas,
for strength and reduction of heat loss.

It's likely cost of Supplys generally increase because we are just struggling with the cost of diesel for our trucks.

Haulage and Transportation cost is fully affected. A few weeks ago we were getting diesel for 125 naira per litre but now at my regular filling station, a good diesel goes for 175 naira per little(a good diesel). This is 50 naira increase.

If a truck goes to Ajah with let's say 170 litres, the added cost now to it is 50 naira in 170 places which gives 8500 naira. This increase can't be neglected as we are just struggling with the total price at the moment.

Prices of material supplys may go up again due to hike in diesel price.

Businesses are closing down everyday, May God help us.
