14 year old Amina Ibrahim who suffered severe burns after allegedly taking popular antibiotics, Septin, has died. Amina had gone to a chemist to buy medications when she was feeling ill and when she got there, she met the 19 year old son of the pharmacist who prescribed the antibiotics for her. She took the drug and immediately started reacting to it. Within an hour, she suffered sever burns on her face and neck.

She was later diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a “rare, serious disorder of skin and mucous membranes that is usually caused from reaction to a medication or an infection.

Her condition degenerated into the Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). She died in the morning of June 2nd. So sad.

Amina died at the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Kano State.

The chemist need to be sued or jailed for being unprofessional. Nowadays, anybody just open a chemist shop like a roadside sales

According to reports she reacts negatively to it, its probably the drug was fake or she is allergic to it.. Pardon me if I misinterpret it, I am not a medical personnel

This is not about a drug being fake, Steven Johnson syndrome is one of the side effects of Septrin. That might be her first time of taken the drug, because most Nigerians are not observant, when the reaction started, the best thing would have been to stop the drug and go to the nearest hospital to lodge complain. Illiteracy is still very much with us and to add salt to the injury, she's from the northern extraction where many people don't believe in that kind of enlightenment. We should not also apportion blame to the Chemist, though, her duty is to explain to patients the expected result of the medication she's selling and the possible untoward effects, but ask yourself, the last time a Doctor prescribed Septrin for you and you bought the drug at the pharmacy, did the Doctor or the Pharmacist intimate you of such side effect? May God help us

the other case, it was an eye drop. now septrin, the same septrin I took and I had no side effects.

is this a case of fake medicine or some allergy complications, we have to be sure, cos it's really scary.

where are the medical practitioners on this forum?

septrin is a Sulfonamide antibiotics and one of the skin allergic reactions to it(for those allergic to sulphur "sulfar allergy" ) is Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS)
