The wife serves as the husband's complement, in other words, an assistant to her man. She is mainly subjected to dispense domestic duties but no marriage law anywhere compels her to support the husband financially, even if she earns more

There is no law that defines how marriage is being run. The couple, society and situations are what determine what happens in any home. To say a woman's assistance is complimentary where she is the sole provider or the major provider in her home is like not being true to reality. In an ideal case a woman's role is complimentary however there is no idealism any where in the world. If you want to be sincere to yourself you will agree that Nigeria is tough and most women are playing roles that they are not supposed to be playing in a normal day even in the most difficult situation.
The average life span in Nigeria is between 50-60 and most times men dies first leaving their wives with little or nothing. Most widows trained their kids single handedly unlike in the past where the family of the late husband will take over the duty. Her income is compulsory.
There are men who are sick, bedridden and cannot work, their wives income is not complimentary,it is compulsory.
There are those who have retired or were retrenched, their wives income is very compulsory.
There are many Nigerian graduates who are underemployed in Nigeria and cannot afford the basics of good food, shelter and education. Their wives income is very compulsory.

You are the same guys who goes about accusing Nigerian girls of being lazy, not being supportive and waiting for already made man but your ego will not even allow you at the same time to appreciate and acknowledge that their effort is needed.

My dear i don't believe in idealism because i live in reality. If you want to take statistics, you can start from your family(father's and mother's side) and your friends, you will get like 50 families.

Nope he's saying it's not right or African for a man to cook which is crap. you can't marry a woman who works the same hours as you and pays bills like you and then decide only she will cook. The minute your wife does the same day hustle as you and pays equal bills you've dropped the African.roles . If she's come on to support your role as a provider then you must be ready to share hers too. She not a robot, that's why some women will be looking like their husbands mothers. The woman too can as well decide which modern roles she wants to take on. Let her also say I'll work but you pay all the bills because it's African for a Man to pay the bills grin even if you can't cook be ready to wash dishes grin

Well I have since learnt that different strokes for different folks.

It used to be un-African for women to work, earn their own money and contribute to the financial running of the home but that's not the case today. So, would you also propose women should stop working and return to their former role of housewives?
My dear tell him ok. Probably he is the type dat wont touch his crying baby on d bed, instead he will go call d wife pounding cocoyam for soup in d kitchen to comw pick up d baby. Its so touching dat women dez days do d jobs of d supposed man of d hse n still do theirs too. A loving and caring man wouldnt mind cooking for his family even when his woman is sound n less busy. Uderstanding differs sha. All men wan marry woman wey get source of income. So its also good u knw how to do domestic chores as well...i rest my case

You didn't get my point. Among other things the African man was not supposed to do before now, I think the "stay away from the kitchen" rule should remain, if nothing at all, to show why we're different from the white folks. It doesn't take away the women's right to be respected. I, for instance, can wash my wife's clothes but can't force her to wash mine. I can sit and feed my baby too if need be. But I can never enter the kitchen to cook her meals; let that be my own dividend of being a married man.

What happens when she's sick of heavily pregnant? Or maybe work takes her away on course or some kinda meeting? Would you resort to burger and fries till she returns? Should she in her condition cook for U?

hmm..

Well as a woman, it's best U study the man U are dating before U marry him.. So U don't come writing Tales by Moonlight when trivial issues like this come up.

LOL! I guess the emboldened also applies to searching bachelors. Don't marry a lady who believes her man must share the kitchen routine with her.

Very wrong. The kitchen is not in your jurisdiction.

What if you lose your wife and become a widower, won't you still enter kitchen to prepare food for your kids?

You still haven't answered the question. Should the African woman stay at home and wait for the man to bring in the bacon? Since it was un-African in those days for the woman to work.

No disrespect to women but by general standard (whether Africa or abroad) the kitchen belongs to the wife. Couples can share responsibilities but it's never gonna be equally. The husband, who is the head, is expected to provide for his family while the wife serves as his support. I can't imagine a scenario where a husband is cooking in the kitchen while the wife is mowing the lawn outdoors.

But it happens. That's that real world not fantasy.

I've always maintained that a man should allow his wife exercise her freewill if it wouldn't ruin their marriage. Most women hate being the sit-all-day-at-home housewives, especially the educated ones. They like to engage in activities that relates to their course of study; primarily for its practicality before monetary benefits for family support. It doesn't matter if the husband is rich or not. So it would be unwise to try to stop them. Notwithstanding, the kitchen belongs to the woman as making financial provisions for the family belongs to the man. It's not debatable!

Its very debatable but that's your opinion. No one was born with an apron, the first man to cook was Jacob in the bible when he made porridge for Esau.
