Good morning mama's, my baby has been on ebf for 5months 2weeks but noticed she is not getting enough tho she currently weighs 6.9kg. I have introduced formula, my question is...for 6months 7 scoops to 210ml is required .can I do 3.5scoops for 105ml? Or 4scoops to 120ml (this is for a 3-4months old as seen on the can). Please help. |

Apologies in advance.... this is a long post. Well, for starters I am fortunate to still be off work and on maternity so i have the option to breastfeed in conjunction with the solids. If you are working you may not have that luxury although you could try expressing milk and storing for use when you are not there. But my usual feed schedule is: Anytime between 4:00-6:00am: we have a milk feed 9:00-10:00: my lo has her "breakfast". we do any of the cereals with some mashed fruit either mixed in or afterwards to give some variety... banana is default as it is so easy, but i try to mix it up every now and again. ( baby porride doesnt need milk, i have made ground oats with mash banana without any milk as well) 12:30 - 13:30: we do lunch: i try to do something that has meat/ fish/poultry and at least one or 2 veggies usually the heavier types like potatoes, rice, beans or yam 17:30 - 18:30 : dinner: i really try and keep this simple so its just a veggie combo. Carrots, peas, sweet corn avocado egg yolk etc things i think are not too heavy or that are easy to digest. 21:00 - 22:00: final milk feed of the day before my lo goes to bed. This is just based on the days my baby reads the script oh.... at other times this goes out the window. And we improvise as required. I offer her the "solids" with water first before offering her breast milk. I even offer her 2 courses sometimes with a fruit puree after the main meal. I have noticed that although she seems sometimes stays on the boob for a long time after her solid meal its not active sucking, the madam dey use me take do pacifyer. At home i prepare all her meals from scratch however, When we are out of the house: i use the jar or pouch meals (cow&gate, hipp, heinz or other) for convinience. i then give her her usual 150ml bottle of expressed milk afterwards. Some times she finishes it sometimes she doesnt A few times i have omitted the breast milk altogether at breakfast and lunch so as to guage how long it takes her without milk. I still express and freeze for emergency use and for her cereal like babyrice and oats. I have a couple of small bottles of the pre-mixed liquid formular for the "emergency" days when there is no time to defrost milk or i dont have at all. I hope to gradually stop offering her breastmilk with her food, One meal at a time so will start with either breakfast or dinner and work my way to just the morning feed and the night feeds. I have also started giving her multivitamin syrup as the breast feeding is reducing P.S: I used to feed her at: 6:00 -milk; 9:00 - solid&milk; 12:00- milk; 15:00- solid &milk and 18:00-milk; 21:30- milk. I have recently stopped the 12:00 feed and adjusted the times to that detailed at the begining of this post. . Hope this helps. 5 Likes 6 Shares |

mama Ozcy, Onegai and shiller:..Thanks for the dove suggestion, I finally got it after several search, The pure and sensitive brand is very scarce, after searching more than 5 top super-mart in abuja, I finally got it in H-medix after much wahala. Now I pray it suits my baby skin. Mama, my baby face is lighter than her body, what could be the cause, I used ori, Vaseline (blueseal) and coconut-oil mixture right from brithday, her skin is perfect, just the different shade of colour(face is fair, while body is a bit chocolate). |

@rchilee You only follow instructions on how to make it not on the quantity to make. It's a new food; he May not accept it well; you end up wasting it. You can make 90ml or any quantity you wish to start off with, then increase as baby wants |

realsupermum: Yes you can give multivitamins. His not eating maybe you haven't introduced what he enjoys eating. Keeping experimenting until you get what he loves. Ebf babies do this more, is he one? |

realsupermum:u can dish his food with urs, as u r eating u will b feeding him as well. But reduce pepper and other condiments u usually add to food. That's what I did for my DS he will be looking at me as a chewing, so he got interested in eating with me, any food that I prepared separately for him is always a waste. it is well ma. My baby was EBF for 7 months, so am sure he will adjust. |

I thought it's for younger babies; if it's ok for his age no problem. I only used it when my my baby was less than 3months switched to to well kids multivitamins since then when needed. Well kids is from 3months to 5yrs. Price ranges from 2k-3k depending from where you buy from. |

I personally avoid giving drugs as much as possible. I wouldn't encourage multivitamins for babies below 12 months old just me being over critical, I rather experiment with foods, fresh fruits, all veggies both locally grown foreign ones, youghurt, milk ,custard, oats, soysnacks and powder, baby cereals, half boiled eggs, potatoes, soup, semo, amala, loads of fish, chicken and formula plus formular and fruit mixes . That way I'm sure d babys nutritional requirements are met. I try to be very deliberate with feeding and nutrition. In summary I would say Experiment carefully, time, assess and follow your babys lead. 1 Like |

rchilee:The ratio of formulae to water is 1:30. That is 1 scoop to 30mls of water. So for 3 scoops it wld be 90mls not 105. Its better u remove the .5, as u won't be able to get that exactly. I ll suggest u start wt 60 or 90 mls, then gradually increase as ur baby gets used to d milk, so u don't waste milk. well done mama. |

Pacypatty:Cerlac is fine for a 6 month old. For the pap, don't give up. He may refuse it the first few tyms but persistence is the key. ensure the pap s well fortified and tasty. |

MadameU: Nothing is wrong with giving babies multivitamins. Even newborns are given by the doctor before discharge. dunnybaby: Complete his medication as prescribed by his doctor afterwards place him on onces a day (5ml) vitaminC. |
