@Ohakskid max GP 5.0, min GP 1.0. If ur school na 7.0 and 2.0 put am like UI. The total credit u should calculate it using your transcript. A friend made that mistake instead of min GP 1.0 he typed 2.0 and after the uni did their calculation his German grade was 2,6 he sent it to me and i did d calculation it was 2,2 he sent it to the school and they said he entered 2.0 as the minimum GP and that was what they calculated and that he can only apply next semester.
My opinion though someone else might have a contrary view.

HI all, I'm in 400 level in OAU, spoke to my Uncle in Germany and he's ready to help me with the said amount in my German block account. Now my Questions are these: 1. Will I apply with my 100l transcript as I intend starting from scratch with another course? 2. Can I get a course that teaches forex, investment, stock and likes as I wish to make legit money online with it? 3. How much in naira is required in my block account and how does my Uncle come in as a sponsor? Thanks all!

@nineteenth, people make sacrifices for their dreams. The prospects of having a better life as a graduate of a German university is high. What is 90k and danfo? If you have been earning 90k for 3yrs now ,I can boldly tell you that the value of your salary is now around 45k. The things you could buy for 20k last 2yrs will cost around 40k nw.

For some this German dream is just a " let me try thing" for others it's a major step to their futures. If it is worth it or not is based on your vision. For people who have a strong plan, quitting a job or selling a property is a must pay price. You would be amazed if you know what many have done to raise blocked account cash. I know a guy who was working for a petroleum company and earning well. Before he got his job he had this German dream, so he worked and saved for 3yrs. After 3yrs, he quitted his relatively high paying job and left for Germany( many would never try that).Today, He is not regretting it one bit.

I will never make a decision for you. Weigh your options, analyse and decide.
Since you have an admission, you are one leg in.

I don't really know how the German studies work but can answer few questions from what I have learnt so far.
1. yes. you will need your 100level transcript for German admission. you will need toefl too.
2. I don't know.
3. well, it used to be N 1. 8million. but with this CBN thing. just budget 2. 5million to be on the safe side. if u have the money for blocked account, u don't need your uncle as sponsor. #my 2cents. Good luck

Those are called student jobs. Do you want to work in BMW abi Bundesrat?

We talk as if there is such a thing as 'student job' here in Nigeria. angry

At the end of the day, Germany could be a springboard, a route to other places or the final destination.

Different dreams, plans, destinies...make the move if you must.

In spite of all these, I will be quitting my job to study in a world-class university in this same Germany. Not an easy decision to make. In fact, I keep thinking of deferring till next year or even cancelling it and just do my MSc here in naija. But then, I ask myself, 'after the programme abroad, will I be better off ?' I always answer in the affirmative. Average take-home salary of an MSc holder in Germany is €2500. At an exchange rate of 400 Naira to 1€, that's N1m. Except you work for an oil company, you will have to be a manager with 15+ years of experience to earn that much here. More so, with your German MSc, plus, say 3 years of work experience in a German firm, do you know what you can command in monthly salary here in Nigeria. If you never leave your comfort zone, then you will never know how many opportunities are out there waiting to be grabbed. One only needs to take that bold step. You may be doing well now, but ask yourself, 'can I do better than this?' if your answer is 'yes', then go for it.

I think he said his uncle will fund the blocked account...so, €8090 is still €8090 since he earns in Euro.

CBN got nothing on him. grin

u are ryt bro
we all HV to take decisions on our own.its all abt or dream.the fact the Mr A is not doing well doesn't determine ur success.
I don't know y some of us want to go to germany, but all I know, we must strife to make it in life no matter the conditions.
going to Germany to study is not only for SHOT-RUN benefit,we should see beyond that. what abt the LONG RUN?
imagine urself having a good paying job after your studies, won't u live a desirable life?
one can do anything to raise his/her fund, its a dream.let us not be discourage abt the fact of doing menial job zB Kinderserziehung, katze oder Hund pützen,Auto waschen, Gartensarbeit,Haushaltsarbeit ,im Restaurant oder Kino arbeiten.
we shouldn't consider all this,u only do this to survive, u won't do it forever.believe yourGod and urself that someday u will also get a better job or better still, become a Boss.if we consider this menial job and run away from our German dream, what abt the wealthy Nigerians in germany?spme one said that its hard to afford a house in Nigeria even when working full time in Germany,I'm really doubting this cos I know someone in Germany venturing into real estate from his income in Germany.he has up to 18 buildings already in top cities here in Nigeria.
let us not conclude that its all abt menial job,.the main aim is to get the certificate, with that u can go to anywhere in the world.
if someone decide to sell his / her property to pursue his German dream, its left for the person.its a dream, his dream may be different from other's
I know some one that his dad sold his land and cars to send to MIT in america.people morked the man for the decision in the short run cos he had to be jumping pkada (this is somepne that was cruising SUV before
in the long run,the spn got a job as engineer with Boeing the biggest aircraft manufacturing company in us.to be honest, this man lives in aame street with governors and senators now in Garki in abuja.now what abt people that discourage him?
I know someone hu is leaving his #300k paying job to Newzealand next month cos ots his dream.he belive he will make it better over there.
our dream is worth being chased.
I must be in Germany and I must suceed by Gods special grace .

I really am all for the the exchange of ideas and advice on this forum as it is the only way anyone serious about this venture can see all the cards and then make decisions based on what works for them.

Let me start with the renewal issue: Like you all, I was also worried about it before coming here and for the first couple of months. It was a big deal for us especially as work wasn't even forthcoming (word of advice here: If you want to spare yourself some financial headache, my advice is to come here in the summer. Simple reason is because you most likely would get a job faster than in winter where most businesses are already in slow-motion mode but coming in winter is cool too because there are jobs to be got even on the same day you land if you go look for it so nothing is cast in stone. We are winter peeps and we be balling cool grin). Then we realized something and asked a simple question, have we heard or known anyone that went back to Naija because of money for renewal? Answer is still NO. That means there must be ways to achieve the golden renewal that we just need to learn and learned we have. It will probably be counter-productive to say a few things about that here because some of these details do have peculiarities to regions while most are just a simple word of direction from those on ground.

My advice: Plan, Plan and Plan. What do I mean? While selecting cities and schools, try and get info on the place and how affairs are run there. make friends or at least good acquaintances with those already there and get them to tell you what is obtainable. For those coming to Kiel, we will hook you up with the available jobs that can at least feed you till you get your permits, ways that can help you buffer up enough to add to your account for renewal and you will have people who can help lift you across the mark.

The truth is it is not a bed of roses. One thing you should have in mind is that you will only get shitty jobs (compared to what you were doing or would do in Naija), get screamed at and feel bad for yourself (almost regretting) and say "na me be dis" angry and feel so homesick you want to give up and just head back home (it will get worse even) embarassed. This will happen no matter what but it is better if you have told yourself the brutal, honest truth before sending in those applications so when you start having those feelings, you tell yourself "it is only for a while, the goal is near".

So, renewal is an issue but definitely relatively easy to overcome with the right info and the right group of people.

To abandon ship or not: To those that want to run away from naija, I commend your courage and support your decision to seek greener pastures especially via the educational route (as long as you complete it and proceed into professionalism o). The state of the country in naija is disgraceful and one needs to make bold decisions. To this end, I would like to say that if you have any means of generating revenue in naija (houses that can go on rent, buses that can continue plying the roads and bringing in money), please and please do not sell them to accomplish your dream of coming here. Instead, I would advice that you either tarry a bit in naija and save up more till you have enough to come here and then handover those assets to someone you can trust to help manage but ensure all monies are still paid into your account from where you can then transfer for whatever needs to be done or gifted. This way, you are continually in contact with your business and up to date. You never know when the accumulated little cash will come in handy. If you have little or no responsibility and all you have is a bus or marwa or okada and selling it will complete your money to come here, by all means do that because they are depreciating assets anyways and the ROI in coming here is way way more than the cost of selling it.

Working while studying: If everyone will tell you the truth, it will be that you will be quite comfortable once you get the hang of jobs around you and you start making some money. you can undertake more than one job depending on your schedule and how you plan your time. So understand that it will be hard for most initially but I promise you that it will get better and even you will not have plenty time to come to the forum to read comments as often as you did before getting here or in your first few weeks because your tune will change from Obiwann's "winter is coming" to "the hustle is real" cool.

Follow your dreams guys... wink

All the best

Positive mind, It goes by the word "chase a better lifetime". Most of us here are living comfortably but if we choose to remain like that, we wouldn't be chasing this deutsch dream. Am very ambitious, am just like you not satisfied with what is happening around me here in Nigeria.
YES! NIGERIA WILL BE GREAT!!!... But me I no get time to play betnaija with my life. Maybe the next 2,3 or 8thgeneration. I stumbled on an old Nigerian dailies, caption: THERE SHALL BE NO POWER OUTAGE BY1994 (or something like that)... I'm using my laptop as powerbank as I'm typing this (June 2016)"E go better" has been the most popular nursery rhymes of all time. For me o, I choose a better life.

I am currently faced with a similar challenge. I recently got a job and my monthly salary is roughly 90k, I also have a commercial bus 'danfo' in Nigerian local parlance, which also is another source of income for me. I got admitted for a Master program in Germany and I am considering resigning my job, using all my savings, getting small loan(500k) and selling the bus to make up funds for the blocked account. I just hope and pray it would be a wise decision on the long run. Things are not easy here in Nigeria, but somehow, guys still dey rough am. Make our case no go be from frying pan to fire o...veterans in the house, na God I take beg una, kindly help throw more light on this matter...vielen dank!

If u want my honest advice, I will say this is a very wrong move. You want to leave certainty for uncertainty. Do u think you will be able to save 90k monthly if u get here as a student? What 90k will do for u in Nigeria, d euro equivalent will not do it. Plus u still av a danfo giving u upkeep money and u want to throw it all away cus u think Germany is paradise Wia money is easy and job is yanfuyanfu. My guy don't follow that path of leaving ur 90k job selling ur other source of income and still going into debts to come to Germany biko. I don't think its worth it

Yes graduates get 2500€ but do u know how much will be left for to spend at d end of the month out of that amount u mentioned? After all the taxes av bin removed, u will get around 1600€ in ur acct then from that 1600 u begin to pay monthly bills that most not default. Imagine u pay 700€ for 2 bedroom flat out of it then pay 150 for utilities and internet, plz how much is left for u to feed and flex? Before u can save to buy that SUV u want to sell.

Well I'm not discouraging anyone. Its a risk worth taking if u believe in your dream. Its even better to finish d MSC and come back to naija with it for a better paying job. Just telling that don't expect 2500€ monthly like u read on websites. Owo Germany , Germany loun GBE in lagbaja's voice.

I just want to leave something here....No one has said that money is easy to come by in Germany as the work is not for the lazy and you actually do the work for the money you make unlike in naija where you can laze around and still get paid but I strongly disagree with you on the fact that what holding on to a 90k job is better than coming here for an education and doing student jobs. I am actually shocked that you that have been here for a while will make that kind of statement (or maybe you are not here yet...not sure).

Let me try my hands on some maths here....

90k per month is less than 250euros at some reasonable exchange rate (Azimo things). That is 3 days work @ 107euros every 12hour shift done. Realities here people....Realities.

Ok, so imagine you being here and work only 4 days in a month and make 431Euros. In most places, this takes care of your rent and insurance. Feeding and general aggrandizement is up to you. So double that and work 8days and do the maths. To be fair to everyone, after the a 12hour shift (day or night) you will kaput for another 6 hours sleeping and booting up to functionality which is where planning comes into play so you only take shifts when it suits you. Making upwards of 700euros a month is very very possible and enough time to attend lectures and all. Tell me how you will not be comfortable and even send money home at that rate. Bear in mind that it isn't even what you make during holidays.

Again, like i said, this isn't going to be the case in all cities but true for most cities and even smaller regions.

Please do not take this to heart but as a pointer to what is very possible out here.

I just do not agree and completely disagree with the notion of holding on to a 90k job in Nigeria when you will have to make a whole lot more than that here and also enjoy a much better life and education.

P.S: Converting your student status to a full resident is also not for 2 headed people. Yes, people do all sorts to extend their student status when they can't find a job but let us be realistic here, how will most get jobs when they do not even have skills to offer. Getting ahead anywhere takes personal commitments so look ahead and see what works in your area of specialization and get the skills needed and of course the language and then see if you will not get jobs and get your permits. I have personally not heard of the Alien's office demanding that a German be given preference over others for a position...this is a country with very low unemployment rate. This is not Canada and once you graduate with a degree in a school here, you are good to go.

Please let us ease off on these scare tactics, I would advice anyone that want to come try things out here to look at all the possibilities and weigh them. If it tilts towards you, please let no one deter you because even they that keep saying "don't leave certainty for uncertainty" have not left the uncertainty and headed back to the supposed certainty.

Why would a single young man need a 700Euros 2BD apartment? shocked
Priorities bro!
And please stop with the taxes already....you do know about filing tax returns right? even as a student, you can file for tax returns every year if you work beyond the regulated amount so you get your money or some part of it back.

Going back to Naija with your M.Sc certificate will only get you a moderate paying job at best and that is if you can find it.

Truth is if Naija will work and be better, Owo Naija will stay in Naija too because they will tax everyone heavily to get things done. That is the way of the world. If i work and pay my bills and taxes, and then enjoy all the good of the land then by all means i am better off.

Easy bro...E no easy anywhere but it is a whole lot better than where we are coming from.

There's a yoruba proverb that says "The truth is bitter" but reverse is the case here, The truth is sweet. We need people like u that will be encouraging us by showing the bad and the good sides of the journey not the bad side alone.

Fact is, there are always two sides to a coin. Life's filled with ups and downs. It would be nice if we can have some of our German alumni come share with us their post-study job search.

I m surprised NEVILBOT can make this statement.. My question is since u left for Gem, how come u have not returned to Nigeria ur dream country. In de first place while did u travel to do ur MSC in Gem?.
U just one person I see dat can't give someone a help in NL on Gem move rader talking negative n discouraging people.

I don't think its worth it[/quote]
