All I see is a young man who is a victim of the great evil hidden in most people. He was wrong by stealing, no doubt. But he should have been shown mercy even when justice is ensued. We have bigger criminals enjoying our loyalty.
He can be a better person with careful help from society. He may just be trying to survive. Try him by giving him work and see if the crime continues.
