Kenya Military: 4 Extremists Killed Averting an Attack

A Kenyan military official says soldiers killed four Islamic extremists from Somalia's al-Shabab rebels suspected to have been planning an attack on the coastal county of Lamu.

Military spokesman Col. David Obonyo said Wednesday that Kenyan troops killed the fighters after pursuing them overnight. Obonyo said the extremists launched an exploratory attack on an army base Tuesday. He said a Kenyan soldier was wounded in the gunfight. Obonyo said a cache of weapons was recovered including an improvised bomb.

Somali based al-Shabab militants have killed hundreds of Kenyans since Oct. 2011, when Kenyan troops were deployed to Somalia to fight the rebels. Last week al-Shabab killed five police officers in Mandera County in Kenya's north. link http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/kenya-military-extremists-killed-averting-attack-40221904

US seek Aerostat solution to provide (FMS) Kenya border security

The U.S. Government is seeking sources who are able to supply approximate Pricing and Availability (P&A) data for planning purposes preceding acquisition by the country of Kenya of an aerostat system or systems through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process. The purpose of the aerostat(s) is border security. The intent is to hang a lightweight payload from the aerostat to include an electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) camera and radio re-transmission equipment. The system is to be transportable and not at a permanent fixed site. Radar is not currently planned as part of the sensor payload. The customer country has indicated that a 28 meter aerostat with a 1000 pound payload may be about the size of the system being considered.
Please submit all responses to the email addresses provided below no later than 17 June 2016. The response should be a description of a vendor's capability to provide aerostat-sensor systems. It is important for the customer country's planning and budgeting that rough cost indications be included. Responses may include any and all aspects of an aerostat-based border security system than the vendor may feel to be of interest to the customer country, including technical capability, fielding, transportability, endurance, life-cycle, training, and operation. Vendor provided information will not be shared outside US and partner country Governments. Vendor responses to this Market Survey/Sources Sought are submitted directly to the US Government so export controls do not apply.
This is a sources sought market survey. There is no solicitation available at this time. Any information submitted by respondents to this synopsis is strictly voluntary. This market survey does not constitute a Request for Proposals (RFP) or a request for sealed bids (IFB), nor does its issuance restrict the Government as to its ultimate acquisition approach. The Government will neither award a contract solely on the basis of this notice, nor pay respondents for any information that they submit in response to this Sources Sought request. The United States Army CECOM LCMC is conducting this sources sought market survey to determine potential sources capable of fulfilling a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) requirement.

It makes no sense as many detail missing such as payload, waspon system, rader range, avisonics, maintainlance cost, crash rate per 10000 flying hours.......

It obviously excludes many vital parameters. And again methinks it is too "Indocentric". I posted it to get reactions here.

Yes .That's probably a marketing stratage of the manufacturer. Only choose to show some good-looking figure comparing with opponet's bad looking figure.Omit opponet's advantages.

Way way better, if it was the Streit it would have burst into flames. Same way policemen in Ebonyi state were killed inside their Streit APCs after 7.62 rounds cut through the vehicles armour.

This Reva was hit by an RPG, and we can all see that apart from the fuel tank and electrical fittings, the vehicle can still enter combat. Infact i'm sure that after refurbishment is carried out in Bauchi they would be back in operatiions.

According to the Army, only the fuel tank was affected. It's hull remains intact.

If the Nigerian army can commit to procuring 300 - 500 vehicles over the next 5years, TOT would definitely be a possibility.

However at this point, I'll wait and not go forward with see, so we can first see the vehicle which would come out of the joint collaboration between Proforce and the Army. Going forward, the army has a lot of APCs it needs to replace both in tracked and wheeled configuration. A decent contract is on the cards.

Unfortunately, one of the APCs produced by the Abu-Dhabi based company failed a ballistics test when policemen came in contact with armed robbers in Nigeria's South-East in 2013. The vehicle got penetrated by 7.62mm rounds.

REVA FAV (Fast Attack Vehicle)

Having looked at the REVA FAV, i truly think it's a very decent vehicle providing Speed, low observerability, decent situational awareness, protection and Air Transportability that would suit today's modern day Commando.

I mean, if we look at the way the French operated in Mali, Special Forces Vehicles such as the Panhard SPV proved how efficient they(SPVs) are in quick deployment.

The Reva FAV is built on a Ford chassis, it provides good protection, and is air-transportable my only issue with it is, it doesn't have a gun(MG) mount for the commander.

It's a decent vehicle that should be marketered to Nigerian procurement teams. Just like the REVA III, REVA V and REVA Ambulance in Nigerian military service, the FAV could be a fantastic addition.

Nice pictures man.

So it snows in Algeria, i never knew that. I always picture the North of Africa as very hot with low rainfall and lots and lots of desert.
